Unfortunately, our first impression of the hotel was not the most welcoming. The staff member who received us at check-in had a noticeably cold attitude, which immediately set a negative tone for the stay. He didn’t offer any upgrade options—not even paid ones—which made us feel like he simply didn’t care. On top of that, he took about 10 minutes to process something without offering any explanation. My wife eventually had to sit down while we waited in silence, only to realize later that he couldn’t find our registration paperwork—but again, this was never communicated to us.
Another surprising detail was that no credit card was requested at check-in. This meant that any charges made to the room had to be paid in full at the time of check-out, which further complicated and prolonged the already inefficient process.
The hotel itself is massive and undeniably beautiful, but it is poorly signposted. It’s surprisingly easy to get lost or waste time just trying to find your way around. For a resort of this scale and caliber, better signage and guest orientation should be a priority.
As for the food, I’d rate it a 7 out of 10 overall. While some restaurants stood out in a positive way—especially the steakhouse, which offered a genuinely enjoyable dining experience—others were underwhelming. The buffets, in particular, lacked elegant presentation, and the food wasn’t displayed with the level of care or visual appeal you’d expect from a resort of this category.
The casino is relatively small and seems to cater mostly to high rollers. When we were informed that the minimum bet for roulette was $25, we kindly mentioned—very respectfully—that this seemed rather high, especially for a location like this. For comparison, even cruise ship casinos have $10 minimums, and in Puerto Rico’s top hotels, minimum bets are as low as $2. Instead of acknowledging the feedback, the employee gave us a look of disapproval, as if our input didn’t matter at all.
We absolutely loved the adults-only pool—it was one of the highlights of our stay. However, the nearest towel station was a long walk away. You had to walk 7–8 minutes each way just to get towels, which was a real inconvenience in a space designed for leisure and comfort. We even suggested to the towel station staff that towel stations should be placed closer to every pool, but once again, the employee looked at us in a dismissive way, making us feel that our feedback was not welcome.
To end the stay, the check-out process was frustrating and poorly managed. We waited in line for about 30 minutes, along with more than 20 other guests, and only two staff members were assisting. Because the hotel doesn’t take a credit card in advance, all incidental charges had to be settled on the spot, which slowed things down even more. We had transportation arranged as part of our JetBlue Vacations package, and we nearly missed it because of the delay. The driver had to wait longer than usual and was forced to delay the rest of his route.
Unfortunately, I have to say that I wouldn’t return to this property under normal circumstances. I would only consider it as a last resort if no other options were available. Just a month earlier, we stayed at Paradisus Palma Real, and although it’s a much smaller property, the overall experience was significantly better. The service there was outstanding—something Lopesan Costa Bávaro still has a long...
Read moreLet me start by saying this is NOT AN ADULTS-ONLY CLUB at Lopesan. Even though it's advertised this way. There are definitely kids in the Adults area.||I’m a travel agent who recently brought a group of 12 clients to Lopesan Adults Only Resort. We specifically booked (and paid extra for) Adults Only rooms to ensure a peaceful, kid-free experience. Unfortunately, that was not what we received.||We were shocked to find children in rooms next to ours in the section Adults Only. When we brought it to the staff’s attention, we were told the kids were probably just visiting (that was the first complaint on our second day). That was not the case—this was a clear instance of overbooking and overselling. Despite multiple requests to speak to a manager since arriving, we’ve received no call or follow-up. I had to go down multiple times just to get basic answers from multiple people claiming to be a supervisor. I was thankful my friend spoke Spanish because without her help I truly believe they would not have even bothered giving us the resort credit offered at $50 per night, per room credit—but that hardly compensates for not honoring the Adults Only booking we paid for.||In addition, our room was extremely hot. We called for maintenance, and no one ever came. We had the mildew smell but thankful packed DampRid bags (2) to pick up the moisture. We also had no towels our first night in several of the rooms and had to wait hours for delivery. **Also note: pool towels in the adult-only pool area are not provided, you have to go get them by the main pool with the card you received at check-in. We were unable to get reservations at any restaurant except our last night (Thursday) when we got into the hibachi restaurant. ||That said, I want to acknowledge the positives: the food was excellent, and the bar and restaurant staff were amazing, there is an ADULT-ONLY seating area in the buffet restaurant.|Huge shoutout to Domingo, Jahira, and Stanley at the Adults Pool—their service was truly impeccable and made a big difference in our stay.||The resort itself is beautiful, and the beaches are stunning, but unfortunately, the management is disorganized and unprofessional. ||Our group of 4 rooms spent over 2.5 hours checking in—despite arriving after 3 PM. The others checked in earlier without issues. Also, we were overcharged between $200-300 per room. This is a known issue, we spoke to multiple, highly recommend you pay upfront for your room, and use a credit card with NO CONVERSION rates. ||My recommendation: do not pay extra for Adults Only—it’s not honored or managed properly. Instead, consider a regular room or the butler service if you want...
Read moreOur stay at the resort was a mix of highs and lows. The property was stunning, and our room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, with a beautiful view of the adults-only pool. Special shoutout to Blanca & Morelia, who went above and beyond with their exceptional service.||However, the adults-only experience fell short. Despite paying for exclusivity, we frequently had children screaming in the swim-up pools beneath our room. When we spoke with Public relations, they tried to say it was kids visiting the people in the room, but I confirmed with the dad that he was actually staying in the room. |Housekeeping was inconsistent, and on three occasions, our room was not cleaned by late afternoon, requiring us to request fresh towels from housekeeping.||Accessing medical assistance was particularly challenging due to communication barriers. Despite multiple calls and a long walk to the clinic, we found it closed. Thanks to a waitress, we eventually connected with the doctor, who explained there was an emergency phone we were not informed about. She stated the she literally sleeps with it by her pillow and they should have contacted her.||The Valley restaurant was another low point. On our first visit, our order was mixed up, and food that I had touched was served to another table, which was unacceptable. On our last day, we waited over an hour for our food amidst complete chaos until Blanca stepped in to rectify the situation. ||We had gone to the Public Relations desk to ask to speak to the hotel manager, not to complain, but to make some suggestions about the adults only. We were told that they were in a big meeting they have every Thursday and said to come back at 12. I asked if I could leave my number and have them call me to meet, I just needed 5 mins of their time. We went back to find no one at the desk, and no call from the manager. As a small business owner, who always deals with customers, I found it insulting and unprofessional that my request was ignored. ||They keep the manager on lock down apparently!||Overall, while the resort has potential, significant improvements are needed for a...
