danae street has a half a dozen hotels within comfortable walking distance of the medical facility that checks you out for a larcenous amount of money prior to getting a visa for the u.s. there really isn't much difference in any of these hotels. they are old, inexpensive, relatively clean, and most have a courteous staff. we have stayed at 3 of such places. deciding which one is a coin flip. we chose hotel riparbella noting that they offered a free "continental breakfast". this is where the old adage "something is better than nothing" comes into question. "something" would be ok if you preferred grease over food or eggs hidden under piles of bread. you get 1 coffee and if you want a refill, it's 100 pesos. one must also be very patient. their thinking may be if you are starving, you will forgive the taste. we stayed 4 days and on the last night, we chose the...

We have chosen this hotel for its good location - beeing fairly close (walking distance) to the bus terminals Carribean tours and Expresso Bavaro (both are alittle less than 2 km away which is OK for backpackers as we are. Also it's close to the city center Zona Colonial. |The rooms don't offer luxury but they do their job for a short stay if you're Herefor exploring Santo Domingo which is a really nice city - we were exploring just the old city center Zona Colonial. |The hotel could do a better job with cleaning the rooms. Also Wifi did not work in our room. Sconsiglio questo hotel, oltre che per l'ambiente squallido e poco curato, anche per la scortesia e la disonestà della proprietaria, ecco come è andata:||abbiamo prenotato una settimana prima del soggiorno -sul sito ufficiale del Riparbella- una camera doppia per tre giorni, lo avevamo scelto proprio in virtù delle recensioni positive lette su tripadvisor che abbiao trovato molto distanti dalle nostre impressioni. Avevamo, sempre con un buon anticipo, richiesto via mail informazioni sul transfer dall'areoporto all'hotel e non hanno mai risposto...ma questo non è stato un gran problema. Il fatto è che al nostro arrivo ci hanno detto che la tariffa con la quale avevamo prenotato sul loro sito, non era valida e che la nostra prenotazione - di cui avevamo la loro conferma e per cui avevamo versato online caparra di 10E. - non era valida. Quindi ci è stato detto che se volevamo la stanza dovevamo pagarla di più e che se ce ne fossimo andati avremmo perso la caparra. A quel punto abbiamo risposto che il tutto era molto scorretto (erano le 23.00) e che avremmo dovuto essere avvisati di questo via mail e precedentemente, ma vista l'ora e la stanchezza del viaggio abbiamo comunque dormito la prima notte al Riparbella. La stanza era senza finestre e il bagno anche, piuttosto squallida e tutto l'hotel per nulla corrispondente alle descrizioni positive che avevamo letto su tripadvisor. La mattina dopo abbiamo avuto, dopo molta attesa e richieste, l'incontro con la proprietaria. Ci ha accolto con estrema maleducazione, scocciata (LEI!) e risentita, dicendo che erano fatti nostri se avevamo pagato una caparra sul suo sito ufficiale ad una tariffa che lei non voleva più farci...insomma..fantascienza. A quel punto ce ne siamo andati e abbiamo trovato lì vicino - a minor costo - un hotel decisamente migliore, proprio carino, del quale sto per fare la recensione. Quindi, si può trovare molto molto molto meglio in città zona coloniale e a minor costo! Evitate...
