Really impressed with this hostel. We stayed in a combination of 4, 3, Nile Cruise and hostel during our trip to Egypt and this was the best.
Location: just 5 minute walk from the Cairo museum and Tahrir Square. 10-15 min drive to Ramses train station and 45 hours to airport, depending on traffic of course. It is on a ‘quieter’ part of this area (relatively speaking of course… if you want total silence and peace then Cairo is not the right place for you…). The hostel is located in the top floor of a building, you need to take the lift to the 6th floor and walk up a short flight to the 7th. Lovely breeze up here and a nice view of the neighbourhood.
Check in was really prompt, and the receptionist was super friendly and helpful.
Room: very clean and had everything we needed. Free wifi, lots of power points (including one that fits all worldwide plugs), plenty of places to hang clothes, air conditioning. As mentioned, this is Cairo, so lots of noise outside and there is of course no double or triple glazing, but the noise is pretty much constant so it didn’t trouble our sleep anyway as we got used to it so we did not mind. But other people who are more sensitive may need to consider somewhere else with soundproofing which I imagine only a 5* place like the Hilton or Ritz Carlton can offer.
Bathroom/Toilet: was also very clean. Bath towel provided and shower gel (but I am not sure if it is also a shampoo). Really excellent water pressure with rainforest shower too. The only downsides of the toilet are 1) the shower curtain is not long enough so when you shower the floor outside the shower area can get wet 2) the walls of the toilet don’t reach the ceiling so it’s not completely closed, a bit embarrassing when using the toilet and sharing a room with someone else 😅 (we had a private twin bed room).
Breakfast: simple but adequate to start your day. Coffee tea, bread, yogurt, honey, fried egg.
Wifi speed is decent, no problems.
Laundry cost about 5 EGP per piece, we sent ours at 9am and got it back before dinner time.
Definitely recommend this place and hope that the owners continue to maintain the current cleanliness and standards so that it can be enjoyed by many guests for...
Read moreIn 20 years of traveling, I have never had an experience like I had with the Champollion Hostel in Cairo.||I booked on Booking for 2 nights from New Year's Eve, I even used Whatsapp to contact them and let us know where to find the entrance (as we were arriving at night, so we wouldn't have to look for it then). They answered fast immediately.|2 days before arrival they sent me a message on Booking to cancel the booking, saying that I hadn't paid a deposit, which was never to be paid according to the confirmation. I wrote to them via Booking, also on Whatsapp, but they did not respond. In fact, even our host in Luxor called them, but they bounced him too, promising to call me back. They never called back.|Finally it turned out that they cancelled our reservation due to overbooking. For New Year's Eve, 1.5 days before arrival, with a child, I didn't even know where we will be sleeping, and our bus to Cairo arrived at 11pm at night... |I won't go into details about how they ruined that period of time until I could resolve the situation.|In 20 years, this was the only accommodation that had pushed us out like...
Read moreAn unforgettably beautiful stay
The atmosphere at Champollion Hostel is overwhelmingly friendly and loving. The facility is treated with care. If we had problems, the team took the time to give us explanations or to find solutions. We really enjoyed the generous hospitality. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired. Although we had a lot of luggage, the family room was big enough for four. There is a large, stylishly furnished common room in which we felt very comfortable. The Champollion Hostel team has many surprising ideas to make its guests happy. The team is available 24 hours a day. The service also includes the opportunity to get drinking water or hot drinks free of charge. There is air conditioning in the room and enough windows to be able to ventilate. The hostel is very close to Midan Tahrir. Despite its central location, the hostel is surprisingly quiet. Restful nights are guaranteed. In our opinion, there is no nicer place to live downtown. The Champollion Hostel team made our stay special. If we come to Cairo in the future, Champollion Hostel will be...
