Saad Al Haramy — Restaurant in Cairo

SCAMMERS - AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I went to have lunch with a friend and after asking for the menu and sitting inside we got served our food. When we went outside to pay at the counter where the "big boss" was sitting, they gave us the bill that was the double of what we had had. When we asked about the increase of price, they basically said that the prices on the menu were outdated (two year old) and that they didn't have money to print them with the new prices. The owner didn't even look at us, was just talking in Arabic to one of his employees (he translated) while eating in front of us. As there are several police controls over the city, I got to the nearest one and told them about the situation, and after giving the name of the place, the police chief smirked at me and told me to go to the nearest police station to file a complain (I saw more that 8 policemen at the control, not busy at all, but hey, this is Egypt). I asked whether I would be OK to pay the total amount I was supposed to pay for what I had consumed and he confirmed, so I went back, paid for the real amount we were supposed to pay, and then the owner started calling me "thief". I was really looking forward to this, but was quickly disappointed. Waited for 20 mns to get the menu and my order taken, then another 30 mns to get my order. The food looked really good, except it was painfully salty. I took 3 bites, and left. The cashier wanted to charge me for two items that I didn't get. I went over my bill to be sure. He didn't even ask why I left; he was more interested in the money. There were flies everywhere, only 3 tables for dine-in, and the cashier kept smoking, which made it worse.

I came here and ordered fool (refried fava beans) and fried eggplants. Quantity is not very generous, but reasonable. The beans tastes good, lacking little salt though and their salt shakers do not work well. I would give the beans 8/10 for taste. The eggplants are also really good tasting, but quantity is very little. 8/10 for the taste as well. It comes with fried peppers that are very spicy. The bread however is not very fresh and this maybe the only downside. The place is also not very hygienic, but you won’t expect it...
