This place was the worst. I booked a week stay at the hotel to relax, surf and chill out. I thought it would be more intimate than one of the resorts, but at 90/night, I expected it to be close, if not the same as some of those resorts in terms of comfort. Boy was I wrong! My room had a clogged shower drain, with constant standing water, a stained sink, a hardware experiment for a shower head, cold water (not uncommon in Tunco though) and a front door that was frayed to pieces and looked like it had been kicked in. You cannot flush TP in the toilet and yet no one came to clean the room or even empty the bathroom trash! I asked about this and they had someone come once but never again. Front desk help was pretty much non-existent. It's just people working the restaurant, and by the evening, they're gone. After 3 nights I'd had enough. I tried to check out and get my money back for the remaining days, but they refused to refund me anything. So I left anyway, hoping to settle it with my CC company later. If this place was $30 per room, I'd say it was worth it. Hell, I've been to places across Central America for $30 that were 10 times nicer than this. But at $90 per night, this was frickin robbery. And yes, as others have mentioned, the biggest club in town is right next door. Expect weekends (including Sunday) to have the walls shaking until 2am. If you want nice, go to Roca Sunzal. If you want cheap, go to Papaya or Tunco Lodge. This...
Read moreReading other reviews, it seems that we must have stayed at an entirely different hotel! We arrived Saturday afternoon and we're told that there were no available rooms, then quoted a price of $70/night (a far cry from the $20 the friend who recommended the place had told us). When I pushed about the price, I was taken to the manager who quoted a price of $40/night. However, we were told, the room was still occupied and wouldn't be ready until 6 pm. We were given a dorm room to drop our stuff in. When we returned shortly after 6 to move our stuff, we were told there had been a miscommunication and our room had been given to someone else. Instead, we were asked to stay in the 5 person dorm (albeit with no other habitants) for the same price.|None of the services mentioned in other reviews (free water, coffee or breakfast) were offered or available. Instead there was unbearably loud music at all hours of the day and night, lots of smoking and very little attention paid to...
Read moreThis is a decent hostel. The pros are that there s good wifi (right next to the dorm, but not so good for the private rooms). The dorm is 5 beds (one of them is a double with a single bunk on top, the rest singles beds). There are fans which are good but air con would be better for $10 a night. There is a good kitchen with a stove and frigde. Free water and the cmplimentary breakfast is really nice, free coffee, juice, home made bread and fruit/eggs (depending on the day). There are good communal areas but no pool, so it would be good if this place was a little cheaper for that reason. The reception sells some drinks and you can buy a coffee throughout the day. The owners/staff are not always around for questions or even to get in early in the morning, but theyre quite accomodating. Its two seconds from the beach and restaurants/shops. There are no lockers but the staff are trustworthy (at the time of writing) and you get a key to...
