Read moreSTOKED!!! I just got back from my annual Agamenticus Surf Club (ASC) trip to El Salvador. This year, it was just the five of us from the ASC and our second year in a row in El Salvador. We stayed at Laola Surf Camp in El Tunco, my first time at a surf camp. While our crew didn’t take lessons, the setup made everything effortless. The camp holds about 20 guests, and the others 15 were mostly solo travelers in their 20s and 30s from all over—Europe, New Zealand, South America, and a few from the U.S. It was like a mini UN with folks from Ireland, England, Russia, Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Suriname, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Chile. The camp’s management and staff were amazing hosts—super accommodating and stoked to make sure everyone had a good time.
Days were stacked with three solid meals, unlimited surf, yoga, ice baths, chiro sessions, massages, and optional adventures to waterfalls and volcanoes. Most nights, we rolled into town for group dinners, linking up with locals and some of the surf instructors. The town of El Tunco is a quick five-minute walk down the beach—super chill surf town vibes, great beach bars, awesome restaurants, cafés with solid coffee, and an overall warm, welcoming culture. We kept it mellow, usually crashing before 10:30 PM to be ready for dawn patrol.
The camp sits right at El Sunzal, a long, dreamy 1000+ ft right-hand point break that runs you straight onto the sandy beach in front of Laola. Best part? We scored. Three overlapping south swells — 2.5-3.5 ft at 13-18 seconds — lit up the coast, building from 3-4 ft to well over 8 ft throughout the week. Surfed 2-3 sessions every day until my arms basically stopped working. Water was clean and full of turtles, jumping rays, and tons of fish. Early mornings got a bit crowded, but by 9:30 AM, it mellowed out, and with light winds, you could surf all day. The lineup was respectful and friendly, met a ton of rad people from all over the world.
Already looking forward to next year’s surf adventure—more waves, good times with the ASC crew, and another epic stay at...
