Upon our arrival at the hotel room, we noticed that the room temperature was over 30°C. Due to the severely limited reception availability, where only one person is present and only until 4pm, and with check-in starting only from 3pm onwards, we didnât have time to see whether the room would cool down to an acceptable temperature before the staff had left the premises.
We left to enjoy a day in Porvoo and returned around 10 p.m. To our surprise, the room hadnât cooled down even to a mildly comfortable level; it was still unpleasant. Since there was NO staff on the premises (and the restaurant in the same building is closed on Mondays), we decided to call the number provided in the booking, which was advertised for use in case of any issues.
Upon calling, I was belittled and blamed for not contacting the âavailable staffâ earlier. After I explained the situation, the only resolution offered was to leave the premises if we were not happy with the room, after which the call was ended.
The staff member called me back a few minutes later to suggest turning the AC off and on again, which we had already done hours earlier, while confirming the settings were correct.
The person on the phone also insisted they had NEVER had any issues like this before in our room. They promised to look into possible refunds or reimbursements the next day and to have staff check the room in the morning.
The next day, a staff member (not the person I spoke with on the phone) came to check the room and confirmed that the AC settings were correct. They also acknowledged that the room was indeed hot. Upon check-out, the staff member mentioned that ALL rooms are connected to a single outdoor AC unit, which limits its performance and can cause issues with the settings. So, contrary to what we were told, they have had problems before.
Avoid Hotel Onni, worst service I've ever experienced at a so-called "luxury" hotel. PS. no reimbursement was issued or discussed (despite...
Read moreThis review is based on two visits to Hotel Onni, the first one in the middle of winter, just before Christmas, the latest this summer. ||||Onni is a very small boutique hotel with only 4 rooms and a suite. So, don't expect all the services that you would have in big hotels. However, in exchange there are several pros.||||Onni has an extremely cozy atmosphere to it, romantic even, so very suitable for couples for a 1-2 day break. The service is extremely friendly even if only available during the daytime. ||||The location is perfect, in the Old Town of Porvoo, just opposite to the old church, still accessable by car. You can park for free at the street but it can be crowded during the peak tourist seasons, or book a parking space at the hotel courtyard for 15 euros. ||||If you like to have a nice view, ask for a room facing the church. This summer we stayed in the Retro room (it has the view) and it was quite spacious for 2 persons, very good bed also. The only con was the funky sewer smell in the bathroom in the evening / morning.||||Breakfast selection was very nice, concentrating on local produce served cold, so just don't expect to get the basic hotel stuff, like scrambled eggs, fried bacon or mushrooms.|| ||Excellent lunch and dinner is available at SicaPelle restaurant, have tried them both and enjoyed thoroughly. There are also several other quite good restaurants easily within walking distance.||||There is no room service but there is a fridge in the lobby where you can purchase nice micro-brewery beers, wine and other beverages. Just tell the staff the next day what you have taken.||||Based on our 2 stays, I can confirm that Onni works both during the summertime and...
Read moreThe location of the hotel is peaceful and just a short walk away from shops and restaurants. It is at the top of a steep cobblestone hill, so not the best option if you have trouble getting around. ||||We stayed in the rustic room for one night in late July. I'm sorry to say we were disappointed with the room and felt it was not worth the price. The photos on the website do not accurately depict the current decor or condition of the room. The curtains are now plain white, one of the window blinds is missing, as is the beautiful wooden headboard seen in the pictures. The decor is only beige and white, which feels a bit cold and uninviting. The wallpaper looked discolored and dirty, and the bathroom has also seen better days. There wasn't a minibar in the room and the only trash can was in the bathroom. A rug would help soften the acoustics and also the feel of the room. Some more art on the walls, a few soft colors, and maybe even a potted plant would really improve the ambiance. It's these small details which take a room from just livable to lovable.||||The breakfast selection wasn't very big but that is understandable for a hotel with just four rooms and a suite. The options available were however tasty and fresh.||||The hotel and restaurant staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The hotel has great potential but needs some work before the price can...
