Hotel Sparre — Hotel in Porvoo sub-region

We had booked the “apartment” with a living room, 2 bedrooms and a kitchen, also an own balcony. We arrived with high hopes, and were led to an old and ugly door… behind it an ugly and very dreary porch hall looking like a decades abandoned office or some factory space… then an ugly dreary “living room” with a white carpet looking like it was washed in the 40’s if even then… dirty! The place was like a dirty dreary old office or something, can’t imagine what it had once been! And the air quality - it was very musty and lousy, the weather outside was very warm, and the only gear making the air move was one single tower fan. No air exchange, no air conditioner. My husband got a headache which lasted for hours. We sat there for ten minutes and decided to leave. So we have nothing to say about the breakfast. It has got good reviews but people have to carry their own dishes away. Fortunately Helsinki was near, we got an excellent hotel room for only about half the price of that dreadful “apartment”. Stayed for 3 nights. Our room was facing a busy street, I woke up constantly to the sounds of the traffic. If you book a room from Sparre definitely ask for a room facing the inner yard. Only then you can get some sleep.||Breakfast was ok. It would be nice if the breakfast time could be longer, 06:30-09:00 was too early for me. On holiday I personally do not like waking up so that I don't miss the breakfast. ||The room had a small tv, double bed, toilet with a shower. Very basic and perhaps a little outdated. ||This hotel definitely needs a renovation. New windows & doors with better soundproofing are necessary.||The staff is friendly, no complaints of it. Great location, only 5 minutes from the bus station, and less than 10 minutes walk from the old town. Rather outdated, though ownership has just changed hands and the management are very accommodating and positive about their renovation plans. The room was clean and functional, breakfast was extremely good. The restaurant like the rest of the hotel is going to be renovated. Blackout blinds in the bedrooms will replace the current blinds as the hotel overlooks a busy street, however, the bed was comfortable and shower good and the room was spacious with an additional sofa. It worked well for a short stay and once renovations are complete, I think this will be an exceptional hotel due to...
