A busy restaurant in the nice old town of Porvoo. We were lucky to get a table on the terrace. Unfortunately the service and the food was poor. I guess, young people are hired as waitresses and waiters for the summer season, they were polite but you could see it was not their job, it took 45 minutes before someone even noticed us even though we were waving at them. After 45 minutes, someone came with the menus and took our order and then told us it could take up to 1 hour before the food was served. Maybe the young staff could use a bit more training and guidance from experienced colleagues. The food came, I had a 22 EUR dish which consisted of a piece of salmon with potatoes, carrot and a beurre blanc sauce, the menu mentioned fermented lemons nowhere to be found on my plate. It sounded good on the menu but was poorly executed, it was at best worth a 10€ lunch at your work cafeteria. Another thing I don't understand in restaurants nowadays is how much of the waiters job you have to do, they bring the plates and I was told to go get napkins, water, forks and knives myself inside the restaurant, if there is a table service stop asking clients to do half your job. Overall quite poor experience in a nice place. Their bread was absolutely...
Read moreI had a wonderful dining experience at Zum Beispiel, a cosy and relaxed restaurant in the historic town of Porvoo. The food was delicious and fresh, with a variety of dishes. I especially enjoyed the homemade organic vegan Scuzzi Burger with Parsnip tiger nut steak, charred onion, French fries, roasted garlic rosemary dip, organic salad, and the sourdough bread buffet with different kinds of salts and butter. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The restaurant also offers a great selection of organic wines, quality beers and tasty non-alcoholic beverages. Zum Beispiel is a certified organic restaurant, and caters well for different dietary needs, such as lactose-free, gluten-free and vegan options. I highly recommend Zum Beispiel to anyone looking for a memorable and satisfying...
Read moreThe situation: they have a regular menu and a vegan menu. As a vegan I went straight to the vegan menu and ordered a vegan pasta, my husband took a vegan risotto. When I tried pasta I realized I'm eating a cheese made from cow's milk. We got not vegan food! This is double terrible cos I'm an ethical vegan and a cow's milk allergic.
They replaced our food very quickly and gave me a free chocolate sorbet. But no sorbet can relieve that pain which a vegan feels when accidentally exploit an enimal. Cows, they're so amazing and innocent...
That's clearly a mistake from poor menu design. The vegan menu doesn't said they they had the same dish in non-vegan version. We didn't know we should specify we need vegan dishes....
