I recently had the opportunity to stay at Tango Hotel in Val Thorens from 11th January for 1 week and I would like to share my experience in the hope that it can be of assistance for future guests. Firstly, I want to acknowledge the beautiful location and the potential of the hotel. However, I encountered several issues during my stay that I believe warrant your attention. Upon arrival, I was disappointed to find that the bedroom was quite small, with the two single beds being narrower than standard. The wardrobe space was minimal, and there was no safe provided for storing valuables. Additionally, our room, 106, had a balcony overlooking the restaurant area, which was noisy due to guests drinking and smoking outside. The bathroom presented a significant problem, as there was a strong sewage smell. I had to request assistance upon check-in, and although the staff did place something in the drain to alleviate the odour, it took a few hours before we could return to the room. A dirty brush was left in the bathroom, and the replacement provided was faulty. The room itself was cold, and I was informed that extra blankets were unavailable, leading to uncomfortable nights. Furthermore, the water from the bathroom tap had an unpleasant smell, which caused us to use bottled water for brushing our teeth throughout our stay. On the second night, we attempted to enjoy our half-board dinner. Unfortunately, we experienced a long wait for service and other tables being served before us although seated after us, and even after multiple requests, it was not until 39 minutes had passed that we were attended to. The incident with my daughter's meal being dropped on the floor was particularly upsetting, as was the subsequent attempt to serve her the remaining fries. We felt the overall service was unprofessional and unhygienic. There was sauced spilled all over our shoes, shopping bags and coat, to which the waiter laughed and offered no apology. Additionally, I was charged for the chicken dish that was part of our half-board package, and despite clarifying the situation, the staff seemed unaware of the menu details. This led to our decision not to dine at the hotel for the remainder of our stay. A severe breach of privacy occurred when a maintenance worker entered our locked room without prior notice. This incident left us feeling unsafe, and despite raising the issue with reception, I did not receive a satisfactory response. I requested to speak with a manager, yet my concerns remained unaddressed. We used our packed suitcases to push against the door for the remainder of our stay as we felt so unsafe. It was quite disconcerting to wake up and find a strange man in your room, who just runs off when we both screamed, not introducing themselves or explaining the reason for him being in our room. The panel on the flusher of the bathroom was off all week leaving pipe work exposed all week, maintenance eventually fixed this while we were out on the Friday , we checked out on Saturday! Lastly, the lack of lockers for skis and boots is concerning, especially given reports of missing equipment. Signs were up on the doors all week, people missing skies. I have enjoyed many stays in Val Thorens over the years, but this experience has been disappointing. I sincerely hope that you will take my feedback into consideration to improve the experience for...
Read moreWe stayed for a week mid March 2025. Due to bad weather & flight diversion we did not arrive until midnight, special thanks to the lad on reception, he allowed us to get our room straight away without having to sort any paperwork, could do this the next day. He also directly is straight to the restaurant for hot food waiting for us. |Hotel is in a good location & lively. We enjoyed it so much we have re booked with friends for 2026. |We had a room on the lower ground floor with no balcony, it was the only room type left when we booked, points to note: slightly noisy with chairs moving in the bar above, we were exhausted so did not bother us or keep us awake. Slight smell from the spa in the corridor but could not smell it from our room. |We have booked a balcony room for next year as these were available.|No kettle in the rooms so we brought our own. |we have stayed multiple times with Langley hotels in other resorts so knew what to expect. |Rooms are basic, no safe so lock up any valuables in luggage, just wanted to inform others.|Food: the reason we book with Langley - food is really good, this particular hotel in VT gives you a choice of options from the set menu, you order the evening before for the next day & you can swap for pizza also if you wish. |We had pizza one evening which was lovely. |If you are a fussy eater then a set menu may not be for you.|Even when the bar / restaurant is busy we were not kept waiting long. |How it differs from Langley ADH is you have to book a time slot, many times only 18:00 or 20:30 was available. Not a deal breaker but would have preferred 19:00-19:30.|Bar is lively which we enjoyed the atmosphere, ski instructors drink there as the bar is very reasonably priced for drinks: €6-8 a beer, €38 a bottle of wine, €12-14 a cocktail - prices were double at the hotel on the next road.|Location: Great access to the main strip of bars across the road from the front of the hotel.|For ski: you can either walk 2 mins from the back or the hotel where the external boot room door is to join a run to the top of the magic carpet or ski directly past the hotel rear windows to join the same sections of the snow allows. |Directly infront of the hotel on the right is an indoor shopping centre with access to a supermarket if you require anything. This is also a cut through to the next street where the church is to join the top of magic carpet.|All in all we had a great week, special thanks to the guy on reception on night shift Saturday for our arrival, the two Australian workers at the bar & restaurant. Read moreHotel Tango is an interesting one. The hotel itself is pretty nice, especially the common areas like the bar and restaurant, and the rooms are functional enough for a ski trip to Val Thorens. But my experience at Tango was mixed.
The positives were that the hotel, especially the bar had a good atmosphere and they managed to provide vegan options at dinner which were generally interesting and varied, especially the main courses. The views from the room balcony were great and the hotel was kept clean and the staff were generally friendly and helpful.
The less positives were that housekeeping didn't seem to keep to a schedule which wouldn't have been an issue for me normally except for the fact I was injured early in the trip and ended up in the room a lot, so it was hard to know when to go get a coffee and give them space to clean. From a food and drink perspective the bar was limited to one beer on tap so maybe one more would have been nice and the vegan puddings were heavy on the sorbet, tasty but repetitive.
But my main complaint was that when my snowboard was stolen on my last day from the hotel, the response from staff was to check the room themselves, shrug, tell me 'things like that don't happen' there, and then tell me to contact my insurance before going back to the desk.
I'd advise making the equipment room keyed entry on both doors and putting up cctv, but at the least offering genuine assistance to guests (such as directions to the gendarmerie) who have been victims of crime at your hotel rather than acting like it doesn't happen would make a big difference. I understand it's not great to have a crime committed in your business, but your response makes the difference between a guest feeling supported or left to try and figure it all out for themselves and I fell firmly in the latter camp.
Despite the poor end to the week I'd recommend hotel Tango on balance, it was clean, the rooms were good, the food was nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. I would urge them to review their security (or advise guests to use locks no matter how safe it seems) and maybe offer some help to guests who have been victims of crime, but I do believe that my experience here was the exception...
