UCPA Tignes Val Claret was refurbished a few years ago. So the layout of the centre is good. Plenty of space for chilling (bar), sitting (breakout area) and eating (restaurant). ||||The good things of UCPA is the concept of an all inclusive holiday with tuition for a sport. You should always bring your own towels and ear plugs to fully enjoy the experience. ||||What I thought the centre didn’t do well (in comparison with other UCPA) was:||- ground floor rooms #1 to #3 share just one disabled toilet-shower unit. That’s 12 people sharing this a unit with a draining issue (you need to shower real quick before it floods). That’s just poor when some of the other 4 person rooms in upper floors have en-suite shower in the room. ||- bare minimal basic breakfast. I can understand the concept of continental breakfast, but at least give us some ham or cheese!||- for a centre based at the foot of the glacier skiing hotspot, I’m surprised that some of the staff didn’t seem to share knowledge / enthusiasm for guests partaking in the sport. E.g. while some people in the ski room were diligent in assigning ski equipment, mine was just handed out based on eye measurement. My snowboard was way too long using the nose chin measure. E.g.2. Our instructor gave minimal instruction. He spent most of the time chatting to the French speakers and only gave me two lines of tuition in English over the entire week. (I hear that his kids are like champion skiers so I am sure he can teach well, just not in the UCPA setting). Overall I felt that some staff were blasé about giving guests a good skiing experience. ||||The pros though aside from good location:||- the week I was there attracted a good group of friendly advanced skiers and boarders. So they were cool to hangout and do runs with. ||- the centre tried hard with apre ski entertainment. Different snacks in the afternoon. Stretching classes. Music after dinner and a bar that runs late into the night. (The bar card credit can be cashed out for voucher to use next time you book on a ucpa course). With a good crowd, the evenings were great. (With rowdy neighbours, you have doors closing all over the corridor into the early mornings. Again, ear plugs mandatory). ||- food was good for lunch and dinner. The centre tried really hard to cater for vegetarians and other dietary restrictions. (Admittedly difficult when you have such a large crowd of guests.)||||Suggestion:||- Put weather conditions on a noticeable place. ||- It’s a great centre in a prime location - you just needs a little extra care to make it the best centre for...
Read moreI travelled as part of a group and stayed at this UPCA for a week. The building has recently been refurbished and the bar and reception area looked welcoming and well presented. Check in was late so access to rooms and facilities was all prepared in advance which was fine. ||Unfortunately, that is pretty much as good as it gets. The rooms were tiny and similar to crew cabins on a ship. 4 man bunks with minimal storage area. If you like your personal space this is definitely not the place to stay. The bathroom toilet and shower is shared between two rooms. That’s 8 people to one toilet and after a week, it was rancid.||The food was good but it ran out quickly with no refresh. If you chose to eat later, there was minimal choice at all meals. If you were early there was long queues for most stations. The selection of cheeses and olives was excellent (the only reason for a second star). The pack lunches were ok but we’re not provided every day which was strange. ||The bar uses a ridiculous card system which you have to add money to to use. If you don’t use all the money on the card, you lose it!!!!! Bonkers! Most nights the bar was full of students and noise often carried on in the corridors late in to the night, despite a 10pm noise curfew. I am not old and I enjoy drinking and going out but when the kids in the next room find it hilarious to knock all the fire alarms off the ceiling at 2.45am, my patience wears thin.||All in all, I suggest any potential visitors to Tignes pay a little extra and find somewhere with individual rooms and much better...
Read moreI had "Ski Pack Plein-temps" with UCPA Argentière-Chamonix. However, I was injured in a fun park where the UCPA teacher took us and it is not supposed to be part of the lesson since we had no prior training for the fun park. To me, it is 80% the responsibility of UCPA and the teacher of this accident. I had full trust in the teacher therefore I went through the park then I broke my pelvis and back. I was directly sent to the emergency from the slopes. I might be able to walk normally anymore and my pelvis might not be strong enough to be pregnant. (I am 29 years old female who is not married nor having any kid)
After the accident, no one from UCPA contacted me or cared about my injury in the hospital at all. I even contacted my roommate in UCPA to reach out to UCPA's local reception but no success. They refuse to even send my remain belongings to the hospital (My passport/wallet/ laptop etc.)
To be honest I am disappointed with how UCPA handled the lesson, accidents, and the members. I booked UCPA because my friend recommended to me. I can not believe that with this poor management, UCPA has so a high rating. Why?
I have been trying to contact UCPA customer service, and this doesn't go through either. A matter of fact, I know that I am not the only case. There are more cases and accidents that happened but UCPA did not help any of them.
Please reconsider your selection for UCPA since you will need to rely on yourself if...
