"De Nice" Hotel: Where Your Inconvenience is Their Pleasure
My rendezvous with "De Nice" Hotel was quite the adventure. Their website, rather inconveniently, lacked a secure online booking feature as most hotels in the 21st century, leading me down the path of making a good old-fashioned phone call to "discover their offers" as stated. The epitome of customer service excellence, or should I say, the lack thereof.
When I finally summoned the courage to dial their number, I was met with a reception staff as warm and welcoming as a polar ice cap. Upon picking up the phone, they eagerly inquire about your credit card details, because who doesn't love sharing sensitive information with complete strangers over the phone, right? They have the audacity to label this as "normal." Well, in their alternate universe, maybe. Never had I been asked to communicate my credit card numbers over the phone anywhere before.
But hold on, it gets better. When you dare to question their logic and safety of such an act or suggest an alternative like making a bank transfer yourself, they promptly dismiss your concerns like they're swatting flies. They insist on harvesting your personal data with an almost admirable persistence. And don't even think about room rates. You won't find those online; it's a secret they'll only reveal in their thrilling phone conversations with you. So, if you're ready to jump through hoops to secure a room, this is the place for you. Yet, in an act of unparalleled kindness, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were having a bad day? Spoiler alert: no such luck.
I tried my luck with offering to book my room through Booking.com, but the “De Nice" Hotel insists making a reservation with a verified and reputable company as Booking is all the same as a communicating them my credit card details, because, apparently, discussing your credit card numbers in a dark alley with a stranger is no different from an online encrypted transaction. When I hesitated, they graciously informed me I was "simply not interested" and hung up. So much for winning me over.
Undeterred, I summoned the courage to call them again the following day. This time, I had a genuine query - securing a more spacious bed instead of risking to end up with a room with twin beds for one person. I even offered to send them a Booking.com confirmation to make things smoother and asked if they could then save the double bed room. Their response? A resounding "No," unless I surrendered my credit card information on the phone, once again. When I asked why, they replied with a succinct, "That's just how it is for us." Evidently, they're not interested in helping guests, they just want to play by their twisted rules.
It's truly bewildering that they'd turn away potential guests in a world where customer service should shine. In a grand finale, they basically told me to go jump in the lake and do whatever I pleased; they couldn't care less. So, I did what any sane person would do – I booked with a hotel that respects its guests.
It is nothing short of a circus act. They do not take your side, offer no solutions, and seem determined to make your life unnecessarily complicated. Bravo. If this is how reservations work, one can only imagine what a stay...
Read moreWe made a reservation for five people (an entire family) and we had to cancel it because one of the relatives has unfortunately had a stroke that forces him to be hospitalized for months. We had more reservations for stays, tickets and flights that we were able to cancel by submitting the medical reports (as we did with this hotel), it is the norm that everyone has, and they have returned us either the full amount or in a bonus for use for six months However, this hotel cared little about our situation and preferred to win the money from three rooms reserved for five days that would also be taken back to reserve, which doubled the price; All they did was regret our situation. We will never book again at this hotel nor will we recommend it to anyone, places with such unethical ethics or humanity we consider them to be business to disregard. Read moreAbsolutely perfect location in Le Marais, easily reachable by the RER B train from the CDG airport and then short walk or 1 metro stop. In a safe bustling LGBTQ-friendly area with many bars and restaurants, I felt safe as a young woman walking at night alone returning home. The hotel room is much better in person than in the photos! The design is very interesting with colourful everything and nice to see the character of the older building. I requested a room with a balcony and my request was met and the balcony was lovely size to enjoy the vibe of the city. Air conditioning a huge plus in the heatwave. Balcony doors with a tight seal to block out the restaurants at night. Room was spacious, especially for location and Europe. Instead of the 10 euro breakfast, I found 6 euro petit dejuner formule at local places which were delicious :) try Le Mauvais Garcons restaurant down the street! Overall a great experience in a fantastic location. Service was very kind and I expected the worst in Paris but didn't have any issues! You have to give back the keys every time you leave the room since it's an actual key and not a card, but I liked this because I didn't have to worry about losing the key and there was always someone at the desk 24/7. Recommend!
Disliked · Bed very comfortable, the pillows very lumpy though but still doable. No duvet, a sheet provided under the comforter (which I never know if they wash or not but very comfy and big sheet to not touch the comforter). The only thing is the room is carpeted, so I kept on socks or shoes as to not touch the carpet with bare feet. Provided slippers would be nice. No coffee maker or fridge...
