I debated writing a review because my intention is not to be cruel, but I think it’s important to be honest. Before arriving I was encouraged by all the positive Tripadvisor reviews and professional photos, but I wish I had known in advance what I was actually getting into because I never would have stayed here. The photos, description, and ratings on Tripadvisor do not match reality - as one example to start, the “bar” that is advertised is nothing more than a shelf with alcohol on it. First, let me say that most of the people working there were very kind and helpful, in particular the wonderful front desk manager Touneuf, so this review is not meant to speak poorly of the hardworking staff. However, the fact that this hotel is somehow categorized as a 4-star establishment in a good, walkable location is incredibly baffling and misleading. I have stayed in other 4-star hotels in Paris and the level of quality, comfort, and accessibility at Hotel Mademoiselle did not match up to those prior experiences whatsoever. In addition, the location is incredibly far from any main sites or notable Parisian neighborhoods, requiring on average a 30 minute taxi ride to get to any tourist spots since public transportation was not close either. There were several incidents that occurred that I simply would not accept from a 4-star hotel. Upon arrival, our original room had a shower that did not have a proper drainage system and FLOODED the entire bathroom and bedroom within a matter of minutes. Thankfully, Touneuf was able to move us to another room with a properly functioning shower and handled the situation with grace, and his hospitality is the only reason why we decided to stay since we started to look for other hotels. Next, the elevator was out of service not once but TWICE during our 5-night stay, requiring us to walk 4 floors up and down a narrow winding staircase in 36 celsius/ 97 degree weather. One of these outages occurred when we were checking out, meaning our luggage needed to be carried downstairs from the 4th floor. When I asked someone at the front desk to help with our bags, I was surprised when their reluctant reaction made me feel like this was somehow an unreasonable request. Only when I mentioned that my husband had shoulder surgery and couldn’t carry the bags did they seem to agree that this was an acceptable expectation. Again, if this was not a “4 star” hotel I would maybe understand the expectation for customers to handle their own bags (although, I don’t really think that should ever be the customers problem if the elevator isn’t working). In conclusion, while the staff was (mostly) professional and the room was generally clean, my overall takeaway is that it was incredibly misleading to think I was staying at a 4-star hotel and while for some it may be suitable, I’m posting this review for those who have expectations of the experience that a 4-star rating suggests and will likely be as underwhelmed and...
Read moreGot back home today from a wonderful 5 night stay here. We arrived late Monday evening with a very warm welcome from Jean Bernard who was on reception. He gave us us everything we required regarding our stay, such as wifi info breakfast info, spa and sauna details. When we got to our room it was perfectly presented with little treats as a welcome. A information pack was available with details on how to contact reception for any requirements if needed. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable, we slept very well. The curtains blocked out all light as we decided to walk around Paris, although metro station was a 2mins walk away was available to use. And on 2 afternoons we had a snooze before enjoying the local nightlife. The bathroom was absolutely perfect with a large shower and lovely fluffy towels. We had 2 double glazed Juliet balconies from the bedroom overlooking the beautiful courtyard which was perfect for a night cap and vape, enjoying the quiet and fresh air of Paris. The bar/restaurant was very well presented offering a wide range of choices of food and drinks, again the staff on duty Sunny was exceptional nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was amazing with so much choice and presented to a high standard. Again staff Garmini was wonderful, friendly and most helpful. Quite frankly one can not fault the hotel and staff. It is situated perfectly, close to rail links (which the reception will help explain how to use if you're unsure) and was a pleasure to stay and we can not wait to go again. Thank you.
Our French is below beginner level and we never had a problem communicating with all staff during our lovely stay.
PS There are exceptional bakeries all within a 5min walk providing some truly...
Read moreJust spent a week at this hotel with my partner on a EuroStar break and absolutely loved the place. It's located a 5min walk from Gare de Nord which is where the EuroStar trains terminate for Paris. The welcome was perfect. The reception staff are lovely and cheerful and tolerated my broken French with great patience! The bar staff are lovely and chatty. The breakfast staff do a great job of keeping the tables clean and free and the breakfast food refreshed. There is a great choice of breakfast considering the size of the hotel and the food is fresh and well presented. There is no lunch or evening meal served although you can get "placards" which are cheese and meat boards in the bar. But they allow you to bring back food and eat in the bar area or the central open area and will provide plates and knives and forks. There are plenty of take away options in the general area as well as small supermarkets. The rooms are boutique in appearance and well appointed and with windows closed, are quiet and air conditioned. The cleaning staff are flexible and will clean your room later if you have a lay in. We didn't check out the basement spa area so can't comment on that. The area around the hotel is typical for an area with a major terminus. It's busy and can be daunting if you're not used to it. Watch out for cyclists and e-scouters coming from all directions as well as cars and buses. The central Parisian sights are walkable from the hotel if you're reasonably fit. Take the metro if not. Word of advice, don't bother queuing in Gare de Nord for tickets, drop down one station as there are less queues. And watch out for RER closures, there is a lot of upgrade work going...
