You emerge from the Gare du Nord into a chaos of roadworks and cyclists who stay in their lanes but ignore the red lights and tell you to get out of the way. Take care! The hotel is only a five minute walk (and only about the same from Gare de l'Est) so is ideally situated. On my visit it was covered in scaffolding and painted red (I thought Ibis hotels were green) so I was confused for a moment. The check-in by helpful staff was very straightforward - all the staff I met during my two night stay were very pleasant and helpful. They will ask if you wish to speak French or English. If you wish to practice your French be aware that they tend to speak at French speed! The room was at the front overlooking the busy street but the insulation was such that it was almost silent. As expected the room was small but it had a hanging space, a desk and chair and powerpoints. The bathroom was small but fine and the bed was comfortable. It would be a bit cramped for two. The only disadvantage is that one cannot open the window (the handle is locked) so when you return in the evening it may be a bit stuffy. I took breakfast each day. At 13.90 euros it is good value by hotel standards. There is a small garden at the back where I took a beer on the first evening and which, again, is very quiet despite the traffic only a short distance away. Overall, an excellent choice for...
Read moreIn short: an absolute disaster
We had booked a room for one night to bridge our journey from Normandy to Germany.
We arrived at night, after 11 pm. The room we were given was small and dirty. The bathroom door seemed to have been broken at some point as it had no locking mechanism and no working handle.
But the best thing was that the room had an intermediate door to the neighbouring room. When we tested the door for fun, it turned out that it was not locked at all and we could say good night to the two neighbours from the next room.
After we went to the reception and explained the situation, we were told that the door could not be locked. We then asked for a new room because we simply did not feel safe.
Without much explanation or apology, we were given a new room.
It was also small and dirty. However, the door to the bathroom had a locking mechanism and a working handle. But the most important thing... there was no open door to the neighbouring room.
Conclusion: Absolutely not recommended. Not even for short overnight stays. The absence of cleanliness and a safe feeling are an...
Read moreThe hotel is not in a bad location, easy to move around by uber or train, 15-20min to major attractions & museums. The hotel its self needs to be improved. a room was a decent size, but mattress looked over used ; very dented in the middle & flat. Bathroom was a little snug & looked like it wasn't cleaned well or maybe just old & needs to be updated. Little things here and there were broken, like the light switch was completely broken off (we just ysed the other light switch. The bathroom had a broken shower head where it wouldn't slide up so had to detach shower hose to be able to shower. There was also holes in the shower wall where it looked maybe the soap holder might of fallen off previously. They also only gave 2 very small toilet paper rolls per day which for a family of 3 we would run through quickly. The staff was very nice and helpful though! There was also a nice restaurant next door with good food and prices. If your on a tight budget this hoyel is not a bad option. but for $50 us dollars more a day ww could pf probably stayed at a much...
