After seeing all of the positive reviews I was very disappointed in my stay here. In summary my issues stemmed from a culture of dishonesty within the hotel organization and suboptimally functional facilities. I would not recommend nor stay here again. My complaints are outlined in much more detail below.
To address the (relatively) unchangeable first. The rooms are small even by Europeans standards. Add in a poor design layout and it was barely tolerable for 4 days with one person. It was advertised as 17m2 but felt much smaller due to the design elements on the curved wall and wasted space by the windows due to their electric curtains. while these give a modern aesthetic I'd rather have the 3 inches of space around the bed. I can't imagine 2 people in my room or the 12m2. The wardrobe would only hold a carryon and not a medium size/checked bag. Additionally the toilet closet is strangely next to the front door and opposite the shower and sink, requiring a trip across the entire room to wash one's hands. The laminate and plastic design elements while appearing somewhat modern lead to a very cheap appearing aesthetic.
When I arrived the room was quite warm (I'm guessing 23-25C as the heater was set at 22 and not running), I couldn't turn on the air conditioning and when I called to inquire about this I was told it "automatically" turned off due to the unseasonally cool weather. I stressed that despite the morning being cool (but warming that afternoon), it was quite warm in the room and that I booked a room with ac for that reason. I was told 3 times it was all automatic and thats just the way it is-- to open the balcony door to cool the room. I didn't book a room with natural cooling and could have for €50+/night cheaper nearby. Add in the ?food smells and bugs outside, I said this wasn't an option and it was only after the 4th time when i said to send someone for my bags and I would come down to speak to someone about checking out and get a refund did he say "let me do something for you". The ac came on within a few minutes. If the solution was that simple there is NO reason it shouldnt have been accommodated the first time I asked. This is terrible customer service/ hospitality and can only be explained by the hotel being too cheap to run the heat and ac in the same day and for a 4 star at these prices is completely unacceptable. I have many times in winter, outside temps below freezing with snow, had to start the ac in hotels as the common areas and surrounding rooms transfer too much heat. If I book a room with ac it should be available ANY time otherwise it should be advertised on their website as "seasonal" or "situational" air conditioning and I would know to stay elsewhere. Additionally starting a stay off by lying to customers sets a terrible tone and creates mistrust for the entire stay and brand. On check out I again mentioned these problems and the gentleman said it was french law to have the AC off below certain temperatures. However at my hotel across town the AC worked well from the beginning for the 3 previous days despite being cooler outside all 3 days. Either that hotel was breaking the law or this is another bending of the truth that seems so common at this hotel.
Key card demagnetized twice during a 4 night stay, and based off the staff's response seems to be a c The "Gym Room at The Jules & Jim Hotel" isn't in fact in the hotel. It's a room in another building, across the street, Requiring an escort for admission to (not key card controlled). It's mostly a rower, bike, and cable machine, dumbbells only go up to 10kg so fairly limited but nice equipment. My issue here is that like so many things at this hotel it's a little bit of false advertising to call it a gym AT the hotel when it's in an entirely different building across the street with a...
Read moreThis hotel is everything the US vacationer will want in a Parisian experience. It is centrally located in for all travel by scooter (like Bird and Lime), bike, metro, bus, and even car (taxi or Uber). This hotel is in Le Marais which is also highly trendy. Staying here brings you close to a day in the life of Paris.
The staff were highly adept, helping us with our bags before we were able to check in. They gave us advice on where to go, how to travel, and were genuinely happy. It was nice to have the same people around during the course of our week long stay.
There is a semi-private bar behind reception. Modern, hip, open, and minimalist—it is all the things. They have knowledgable staff. This place is always quiet. It has indoor and outdoor seating, the outdoor has heating and is usually the busiest but the inside is so we'll decorated you should step in and take a look.
We stayed on the fifth floor overlooking the quiet bar and back of the building. There was a private patio! The bathrooms have modern fixtures including a rain shower head. The living in the room was simple and intuitive but also had settings to change the ambiance.
Just fyi, the rooms are small but ours held all ours (1 L, 2 carry-on, 3 bags). We were offered storage in the basement when we got there if it was necessary during our stay.
I would only want to stay in a hotel like Jules & Jim on my next trip to Paris. It's better than the old and often gaudy offerings of the name brand hotels in major tourist destinations. We stayed in the Westin Vendome just before Jules & Jim and didn't love...
Read moreThe location is great! You're quite central and can easily access multiple interesting neighborhoods and nearby bakeries, museums and you name it, so that was great! I had a top-view room (Room 82). The balcony was small but quite beautiful. This room does not overlook the full city - just the top of nearby buildings. The design of the windows and the sun coming through was really beautiful. I enjoyed waking up and seeing the light change throughout the day. The beds were comfortable, and they kindly provided some water. The staff was accommodating and it was a very fast check-in / check-out process.
The design of this room was a bit wonky in certain areas. For example, the shower door could not open fully because they had put a metal handlebar behind the door, bumping into the wall and leaving a small crevice for you to enter the shower. This will be quite frustrating if you are a senior or a larger-sized person. The shutters were hard to open and close (It took a lot of effort to twist the knob.. I just gave up after a while). The design for the towel hangers in the bathroom could be improved because my towels would constantly be falling over. The artwork chosen for the room was really strange.. there was a huge half naked young man above my bed just staring deeply which I thought quite funny and creepy. There was a painting in the shower which... why? lol
The wifi is spotty, and on my last day, I barely got...
