Overall, a rather underwhelming experience.
Service:
The communication from the beginning was rather painful. A simple change in travel dates became complicated and involved several emails and follow ups.
Shortly before travelling I noticed my card had been charged for a completely different amount than the one previously confirmed for the dates booked. Each confirmation contradicted the other and the booking.com app provided a further amount that did not correlate with the cost for the original booking or the date change.
After communicating the situation shortly before travelling, the booking confirmation was changed by the hotel again and no contact was forthcoming regarding such a change. I emailed once more and three days later, was informed someone would get back to me. Eventually someone did and confirmed the city tax was charged twice. I understand mistakes can be made, so the hotel offered a choice of credit during my stay or a refund back to my card. I asked for a refund and then no update. I asked again and was informed it would be processed upon check out. I checked out and the receptionist had no idea what I was talking about when I asked. I have now checked out and still not had any confirmation of a refund…
Rooms:
Rooms are on the smaller side, especially if you go for something more cost effective. The pillows are about as comfortable as sleeping on rocks and offer virtually no support to the back or neck. The air conditioning didn’t work and after several attempts gave up and left the window open instead.
The light beneath the bed is sensor based and does not have a switch to turn it off, which makes for a rather difficult sleep if you are particularly tall. The combination of poor quality pillows, insufficient air conditioning and a light that has no appropriate control, results in poor quality sleep and seemingly not worth the money for such a hotel.
The decor and presentation at the ground floor of the hotel seems to have had no expense spared, but it seems they have ran out of money in maintaining the rooms….
Location
The location isn’t the best, especially if you want to visit museums or popular neighbourhoods. Admittedly this was on myself for booking something non refundable. The dates of my visit changed, as did the purpose and was locked into the booking.
There are two supermarkets and a good brunch place nearby (Balu Coffee) and Oggi’s kebab a short walk, otherwise that’s it.
For the total cost of the booking, the location was poor value and the service falls short of the most reasonable standards. Staff inside the hotel were friendly and polite, the gym was a nice bonus and had everything you’d need.
All in all, it served a purpose and was an average experience, but I wouldn’t recommend it and I wouldn’t...
Read moreUrban Loft in Berlin is, without a doubt, the best hotel I have experienced in all my travels. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was enchanted by its stunning aesthetics and captivating art. The staff at Urban Loft are incredibly friendly and welcoming, going above and beyond to make guests feel special. In fact, one staff member even surprised us with a complimentary bottle of vodka to celebrate my birthday during our stay.
The hotel offers a range of fantastic amenities, including a spacious bar, a delightful restaurant at the back, a cinema room, an inviting outdoor courtyard, a rooftop terrace with exercise bikes and breath-taking city views, a well-equipped gym, restrooms, and various comfortable seating areas. Additionally, Urban Loft provides complimentary coffee, water, and even books for guests to enjoy in their rooms.
Speaking of rooms, they are a true delight. The large windows allow ample natural light, and the smart control panel allows for easy adjustment of the window coverings. The bed is incredibly spacious and comfortable, adorned with four pillows, perfect for couples on their travels. I loved the green tiling behind the bed, the unique gnome sculptures hanging from the ceiling, the safe, the large mirror, the wooden floors, and the ambient lighting under the bed. The room also features a generous-sized TV with various channels and convenient smart features like an alarm clock that we found useful throughout our stay. However, my absolute favourite aspect was the bathroom, with its incredible and luxurious shower, complemented by beautiful blue walls and paintings.
The hotel's location provided a sense of security, with plenty of nearby shops for food and drink, as well as easy access to the main train station. Furthermore, there are numerous restaurants and cafes in the vicinity, ensuring guests have a wide array of options during their stay.
Overall, Urban Loft surpassed all my expectations, offering a perfect blend of remarkable aesthetics, top-notch amenities, and exceptional service. If you're visiting Berlin, I highly recommend experiencing the unparalleled comfort and elegance...
Read moreI booked a larger "Urban Space" room, because I wanted to get some work done while staying. I assumed an upgraded room would be more suitable for working in. Well, as it turned out we were allocated an accessible room, which admittedly was larger, but didn't feel particularly luxurious, or that it was in any way an upgrade from a standard room. And despite being larger, this didn't translate to the extra space being useful because aside from the bed, the only furniture in the room suitable for sitting on was a single tiny footstool. I feel as if I paid for an upgrade and got essentially nothing in return.
Aside from the lack of desk, chair, sofa, or anything else you would typically expect in a hotel room, there are no tea/coffee facilities in room, no fridge, and in the bathroom there was barely any space to put our toiletries on (perhaps due to the accessible sink design?).
Fortunately, the lobby/coworking space is nice enough to work in, and coffee is provided there for free (but only between 11:30pm and 11:30am, for some reason?). But it is not ideal for having video conferences in, because of the music. But better than taking a meeting on my bed which was the only other option.
Also, the room had a bizarre motion sensitive under bed light that could not be deactivated (as far as I could tell) and kept flashing on and off. Along with an incredibly bright green neon light which I had to unplug in order to be able to sleep. The external blinds appeared to have a mind of their own, and raised themselves of their own accord, which would be quite inconvenient if you were getting changed at the time.
But the bed itself was quite comfy and was a king size bed rather than two mattresses together. The roof terrace and gym are also nice amenities. It's just the room is bizarrely under equipped give the market segment that is...
