We spent 2 nights in this hotel as part of our Romantic Road trip. |We booked on line with the hotel directly 1 1/2 months prior to arrival and requested for a room with a view. |Unfortunately, upon arrival in the hotel at around 15.30 hrs we were given a room facing the back road. The girl at the counter insisted on several occasions that no other rooms were available until a few minutes later she came to our room and offered a move to a room with a view. It was well worth the trouble as it makes such a difference to look out to the river and castle on top of the hill. |The rooms themselves look recently renovated and are very comfortable. There is a split air con unit which makes for a comfortable room climate during the hot summer days. Both windows facing the road and river can be fully opened and there are electric black out blinds and drapes. The windows are fully soundproof and we slept very comfortably. |The beds are 2 singles pushed together in the usual German style. The bathroom is small with a shower, wash basin and toilet. Although very compact, everything works. The water pressure is strong and there is liquid soap and shampoo in dispensers. |There is a big flat screen TV with a lot of German and International channels, a fully stocked mini bar, in room safe and 2 USB charging points at the desk. A Nespresso machine with complimentary coffee pods is also available. |Breakfast is the usual spread of German breads and bread rolls, cold meat and cheese, cereals and scrambled eggs.|We had a very comfortable stay and I would have rated the hotel as excellent if not for the hick up with the location of the view. |The gentleman with beard who checked us out was very friendly. |We came by car and left our vehicle in the public car park just across the road from the hotel. Overnight parking is Euro 19.00 per day and there is no discount for hotel guests. |My suggestion would be to make rooms with a view bookable at a higher price and have a guaranteed reservation for...
Read moreThis was a stay defined by a perfect location that ultimately made the hotel's shortcomings feel insignificant. If you prioritize stepping right into the heart of Würzburg, this hotel is a solid choice—but be prepared for a few quirks upon arrival.||Our check-in experience was unfortunately frustrating. The desk clerk handed us a key but was extremely vague about where the room was located. After three exhausting trips up four flights of stairs attempting to find it, the clerk finally came up and showed us the unexpected path: we had to walk through the dining room. She was quite blunt and unkind about the miscommunication, which was disappointing and not the warm welcome we hoped for.||The room itself was small, and the shower was tiny—definitely functional, but tight quarters. However, the location of Hotel Alter Kranen is truly its saving grace and main selling point. The central position makes all those other complaints fade away. The main sights of Würzburg were mere steps away. We could see the famous Old Main Bridge and the towering Marienberg Fortress right from our window, and it was a simple walk up to explore both. If you are here to see Würzburg, the proximity to everything is unbeatable.||The hotel breakfast was offered as a convenient option. There was a good variety of items available, but we noted that the majority of offerings were not homemade. It was perfectly fine and convenient to grab before a day of sightseeing, but not exceptional or memorable.||In summary, Hotel Alter Kranen offers a superb, central vantage point in Würzburg. While the physical space is small and the initial service was lacking, the prime location outweighs those negatives significantly. I recommend it for travelers who value being in the middle of the action...
Read moreWe stayed here in 2010, and again now in March 2019. We were in a triple room which was two separate but connected rooms. The rooms aren't huge but are a decent size. This hotel is incredibly clean. I accidently spilled a bit of water on the floor- when wiping it up there was not a spot of dust or dirt on the towel. The breakfast variety is excellent, and the breakfast room overlooks the river with a view of the castle. The staff is professional, and helpful. The internet service was spotty, but we made the best of it. The location is right by the All Saints Bridge, and within walking distance of the town square. Very safe area to walk around in at night. We...
