A nonsensical clutter of stuff.
On entering you might wonder if you are becoming part of a weird performance. Every object on earth is displayed in the main hall and dining room with a complete disregard for colour-matching, they range from the tackiest figurines on every single spot to a show off of photographs of old ladies , nuns, snowfalls, that are meant to tell the story of the proud owner golden past (highlight is his meeting with Pele)
Once It dawns on you you are in a hotel, sheer curiosity may lead you to your room. It is worth taking the lift even if you are on the first floor: a n albano-kosovar design of bright red and gold decoration thought for the convenience of mafia kingpins and their gangs.
At this point I must confess my dissapointment when I didn't see a boar head in my room, but nevermind: all the amenities belong to 1973 and furniture seems to have been purchased in a charity. Special mention deserve the choosing of cardboard framed works on art hanging on the flimsiest of the (also cardboard) division walls.
If you feel like engaging in any kind of sexual activity, be aware: the bed is sloped (to ease blood circulation for sure) and everyone in that beautiful part of Greece may hear you.
To make a long story short, don't use the bathroom if you suffer from a heart condition or are prone to fainting (your body may block the door if you do)
Feel like a steaming hot cup of strong greek coffee for breakfast?.. don't be naive. No such thing. What they will offer you at the self-service breakfast is the poorest and meanest choice of pastry along with a faintly brown dyed cup of tap water. If you have had enough of this at this stage you can always order a proper coffee at the bar (they will charge you dearly)
Nevermind: try to visit this beacon of Greek hospitality at least once: twice might...
Read moreAt our round trip we did look forward to this location in Kalambaka. The surroundings are breath taking. The location of the hotel is good right at the entrance of Kalambaka, but to be honest, the hotel itself was disappointing. At our arrival at the end of the afternoon we were welcomed by a female receptionist with the name Antigoni. She was very helpful and very service minded. A big compliment to her. Her attitude towards guest was far better than we experienced in the days after our arrival from other hotel personnel at the front desk. Even the hotel manager didn't look like to be much interested in us as guests. She was only looking at her computer screen and pointed to others to do this or that in a way that did feel us very uncomfortable. After having a diner outside we did come back at the hotel and asked for having a coffee/tea since we did have a celebration that day. We did buy a cake for that occasion too. They didn't have coffee/tea available for us (unbelievable for a hotel, don't you think), but anyway Antigoni, took charge and did call a kind of Uber service to bring us take-away coffee. The female manager of the hotel wasn't very pleased by this action from her employee. Can you believe that? Anyway, we got our coffee and we enjoyed it in the lobby of the hotel although we were the only people at the lobby at that time. The breakfast in the morning was also low quality compared to other hotels we have stayed during our trip. We stayed here 2 nights and honestly we will for sure choose another hotel if we would visit Kalambaka again...
Read moreThis place wasn’t my cup of tea. It was old, but not the cute vintage kind. We had 3 rooms so I will be mentioning things from all 3. More like everything was molding and there were centuries of dirt crusted on. The washrooms (W.C) were dirty. The doorway had what looks like mold and water damage. Multiple places were rusted, including the shower. The showers floor was dirty and honestly very nasty. Another rooms sink faucet was terrible. The tiniest bit up would spray water everywhere. Imagine an umbrella where the water is going everywhere but down the drain. My room had 3 people in it, the extra bed that they put in was terrible. It was too flimsy and soft, I felt like I was going to break it. There isn’t a kettle in the room. The wifi barely worked, (especially at night) it was slow and I was lucky if anything loaded. The lobby was nice though. The washroom outside the room was straight up creepy. You have to go down the stairs in the lobby. There were creepy unlit hallways and do not enter signs. The lights took a long time to turn on and kept turning off while I was in it. The main reason I’m giving this place two stars is because they had free breakfast which was still okay. They didn’t have...
