Good vibe, killed by service
Kalambaka is a town built around turism to Meteora. It's pretty mundane, however Feel The Rocks offers you a fresh and trendy atmosphere. If you want to take a break from traditional greek cuisine, the menu has a variety of dishes from pastas and steaks, to several other interesting dishes both sweet and savoury.
We ordered three main dishes: the burger Big The Rocks, the New Greek Salad and the Troufa Pasta. Big The Rocks, was a towering beast- just as I wanted it! The burger itself featured a variety of different ingredients, from a sunny-side up egg to a peperone sausage. It was a good burger. The New Greek Salad was a very tasty and savoury salad. The balsamic really complimented the vegetables, as well as the saltiness from the feta cheese. It was an incredibly well-balanced salad! The portion easily feeds a grown-up. Now, onto the pasta. The black truffle flavor was very overpowering, and although it IS a black truffle pasta- the other flavors were kind of lacking. Still, the pasta itself had a pleasant bite. Not my favorite dish though, and not worth its price (17€).
We also ordered desserts: 2 pancakes and a waffle. All of them were very sweet and filling, as intended (might be a good advice to share as you'll probably be a bit full after the main dishes like we were). Overall, the desserts lived up to the hype.
So, why didn't we rate this place higher? Well, the service of the waitstaff was slow, and frankly they were quite uninterested in actually taking care of and serving the customers (some were to busy on their phones it seems...). We also prefer to be served our food simultaneously (or close to that), so that we can all enjoy our meals together. This did not happen, as the salad was served to us first. They should have held the salad until the other two dishes were done, and the wait between the dishes was more than 10 mins.
We also experienced a long wait between the removal of the main course plates, about 15-20 mins in a restaurant with few customers. This felt frankly a bit rude, as many of the staff just walked past us, or wasn't to be seen at all for several minutes. Honestly, we would've liked to rank this restaurant higher, but you cannot afford to slack on the service, especially during the low season where every...
Read moreThe food is great and creative. HOWEVER the cheating attempt at the check out destroyed all the experience. We had lunch today and upon checkout, no bill was presented. The waitress announced the amount (of 75€) verbally . When asked for the bill, they presented it with the amount of 73.90€. The bill was totally wrong, with the dishes we didn't order. The correct bill resulted in 65.70. THUS A CHEATING ATTEMPT FOR 10€!! We had breakfast with them earlier the same day, and after our check we found out that we were CHEATED as well. (The bill wasn't presented ) Ask for the bill and check it carefully, IF you come.
UPDATE in response to the owner's reply. I am even more upset with the reply - instead of simple excuse and statement to fix and prevent such situations, the owner decided to justify the cheating attempt. And his entire explanation shows the problem is systematic and happens from time to time.
Again - the amount was announced VERBALLY at 75 euro. The wrong bill was presented for the amount of 73.9, clearly it was generated fast with random items after our request. This bill shows 24% vat alcoholic drinks which we didn't order and there is no one correct price per item - this is a fake invoice trying to cover the verbally announced 75euro charge and even couldn't show exact 75euro value. We never added any more items to the order but asked to replace the dish with the correct one, so another lie to your clients. The timestamps on both invoices with 4 minutes lag is also a proof it's not a mistake or a bill from different table.
It is not first time I am in Greece and I adore the Country, culture and nature. This is the first time I run into a similar situation, but I want to make people aware of such...
Read moreWe were here on Feb 10th 2023. When we tried to sit in one of the nicer areas, we were politely told that these tables are reserved for people who would have lunch. We only wanted coffee and hence opted for another table. 5 minutes later a local family came by sitting down at the Table that had previously been denied to us - they were just having coffee. After ordering it took about half an hour until we got what we ordered although the place was not particularly busy. The coffee and the cake did not arrive at the same time - the cake rot there 15 minutes after the coffee. Nevertheless we stayed and ordered more drinks. About a minute after having finished these drinks the heating device behind us was turned off and a waiter told us we could no longer play cards in this place because it is against the policy (which we had been doing the entire time until then and it did not seem to bother anyone). We agreed to finish the game, leave right after that and asked for the bill. We paid but decided to not give a tip because of the bad service. About 30 seconds later another waiter came by and asked us to not finish the game and leave immediately. We left...
Meteora was amazing - this place was the only disappointment in an otherwise terrific daytrip from Athens! Maybe ok if you're a local but bad enough for us to spend 15 minutes...
