The TUI agent explained that our room will have a view of the sea. When we arrived to the 'Alikes Apartments' we were placed in a room on the ground floor without a sea view. At first appearance the room was satisfactory, we resigned ourselves to our viewless room for our vacation believing that we would spend more time "out and about". On further inspection- when we checked the terrace, it was full of garbage, and bins.. The scene presented is far from a sea view, it is a wholly unacceptable and unkept waste and we felt duped by the TUI agent. WC Sewerage blocked - When we arrived the sewerage/ foul waste drain in the WC was blocked and the foul waste was rising up through the open floor drain. The extent of this issue was so bad that foul waste water was flowing into the kitchen. Let me reiterate that statement for full effect- foul waste water was flowing into the apartment. That is a serious health and safety concern and despite this we were not offered a change of room. Furthermore, at this time the shower was also covered with ants. When we addressed these issues to the 'Alikes Apartments' staff, they resolved the drainage issue and removed the ants within the day. The Internet wasn't working in the hotel room, and was only available outside of the apartment. We were on vacation and Internet was a part of the package purchased. After the initial trouble with the sewerage was resolved and the initial ants which we associated with the foul waster, we thought that the ants will be gone, and would pose no further issues for our stay. We were wrong, the number of ants just kept increasing daily throughout our stay and they were everywhere. We have expereinced ants in beds, on our bed sheets, personal belongings, throughout the bathroom - toothbrushes were covered in ants. (images/ video attached)- an incredibly unhygenic and overwhelmingly negative experience. When we reported this massive infestation of ants to Hotel staff, 'Alikes Apartments' staff response / 'resolution' to our complaint regarding ants in our room: The staff berated the apartment cleaning staff in our presence- creating a very uncomfortable environment for all involved. Management instructed that the cleaning staff "reclean" the room- despite cleanliness not being the main issue at hand. Management suggested that we were the cause of the ant infestation- that our poor hygiene or basic lack of understanding of food storage was the route of the problem. Suggested that we hade been keeping food in the bathroom which I did not know how to respond to as its a wild and outlandish notion. We were berated for having a watermelon present on the kitchen table. Instructed that we shouldn't open a window or doors in our room. One of the hotel staff members explained that it is perfectly normal to have ants in the area and inside the premises- suggesting that this is not a problem and that it is only a problem for us. Despite our many complaints and our constant dissatisfaction with our accommodation, we were not offered a new room while the ant issue will be resolved. After the complaints regarding ants 'Alikes Apartments' staff were ignoring our family, they did not try to make our stay pleasant, we felt truly unwelcome and we have come away most dissatisfied and dejected from what should be an incredibly uplifting family break. On the last day of our stay, hotel guests that were checking received little packages for their children and warm goodbye, we were treated as strangers. Before stay in Alykes apartment please chech Tripadvisor negative reviews. All good...
Read moreI endorse all the previous entries regarding staff, cleanliness etc but will touch on a few things. The first thing is the gym located in the basement of the centre block. The gym has 4 running machines, two cycle machines and a stepper. There are 17 pieces of weight resistance machines plus 2 sit up benches and 3 adjustable benches, there are the obligatory plastic dumbbells together with a full range of metal dumbbells from 1kg to 30kg, there are a number of bars and a large range of free weights. All the equipment is technogym but it’s the old white machines and not the modern grey ones. The gym and equipment can be described as tired but functional and would probably not pass elf and safety in the uk, holes in tile floor etc, but you can do a decent workout. The gym is open to locals and some big lads go in but generally you have it to yourself after 10am, the gym and sauna were locked so cannot comment on them.| The sun beds are some of the comfiest I have ever used with a nice thick mattress on them.|My only gripe is leaving and if you are a bit of a worrier you will understand. The airport bus drops you in Elounda and puts you in a taxi to the apartments who on arrival pay the taxi. Our pick up in Elounda was 8.30am with you needing to be there 5 minutes before. The first few days I checked at 8am and there were no staff present until about 8.15am, I took this up with the Jet2 rep who basically said don’t worry. On departure date we were at reception ( which is the pool bar ) at 7.45am and no staff present. The member of staff pulled up on his moped at 8am ( so no staff on site if you have an emergency) and did order a taxi which arrived fairly quickly and we were at the pick up ( outside Elounda church ) at 8.20am and the coach arrived at 8.25am. So had something unforeseen happened such as a road accident preventing the taxi getting there, or his moped not starting, then you would miss the coach. Probably any pick up after 8.30am you should be alright with but bear in mind the above, as I am one of natures half empty types it spoilt what would have otherwise been a great holiday. On closing I would stay again but pick a different check out time or just walk to the pick up spot, takes 15 to 20 minutes, thus avoiding the stress in the...
Read moreMy daughter, my mother and I booked a room here, not really knowing what to expect. We arrived late at night and were greeted with fresh juice and our suitcases were taken up to our room. We paid a €14 tax for the week which is the most reasonable city tax I’ve experienced! Our room overlooked the pool, had a lovely balcony with table which easily seated the three of us and also had a washing line. In the morning, we discovered we also had the most amazing views of the sea (literally right outside the hotel!) and of the mountains.||There was a small but perfectly placed and equipped kitchenette. Having a fridge and glasses to use was brilliant given the heat. My daughter and I shared a very large double bed which was soft but extremely comfortable. My mum had a single which was harder but also very comfortable. The wardrobes were generous, with plenty of storage and a safe to use (€15 for the week). We opted to pay the extra €60 for the air con and it worked extremely well.||The bathroom was great - no nasty smell of drains which we’ve experienced elsewhere. The sink was huge, there were lively soft fresh towels and a drench shower but also a hand held shower head. The water pressure was perfect. There were even complementary products - loads of them!||The two things that stood out the most: firstly, this is the cleanest place I have ever stayed. There was not a speck of dirt anywhere in the room. Bins were emptied twice daily. Secondly, and the best thing of all - everyone at the hotel was so friendly! The whole team welcomed us with open arms and we even got a hug when we left. Nothing was too much trouble and they stood out for their friendliness, even in a town where everyone was lovely!||This is the first time we have ever said we would return to the same location. If I could give it 10 stars I would! Loved every minute of our stay....
