We arrived at the Olive Gardens at midnight and having read previous reviews about no one there to greet us...........we telephoned the Elounda Residence as recommended via the information on the notice board and someone came to us immediately. The guy from the hotel was cross because the bus driver was supposed to ring him 5 minutes prior to reaching the Olive Gardens so that he could be there ready and waiting for us. He was very apologetic but took us to our room etc etc. From previous reviews travellers were upset by the lack of communication/a phone on site and I can tell you that during our stay here a phone was been installed in a little booth on the wall outside close to the tables & chairs at the front as in the picture, giving instructions about which key to press to reach reception at the Elounda Residence. Also while we were there some new wifi routers were installed which made wifi/internet very quick and easy to use. We called the hotel and asked for the courtesy bus to collect us so that we could spend the day around their pool and its a great service and the reception staff and driver were extremely pleasant and friendly.||||The rooms are clean but the studios a little old fashioned but everything worked and there were plenty of towels - white and fluffy - and the bed linen was changed frequently. The rooms at the front are probably cooler as they get shade in the afternoon - although they would have had traffic noise from the main road at all hours. Our room at the back (2nd floor - number 11 if I remember correctly) had sun from mid afternoon to dusk and although we had a nice view of the olive groves and the Elounda Residence in the distance it was extremely hot - there was a heatwave while we were there! This is a triple room but the way - large double bed and a single, wardrobe and plant of draw space plus safety deposit.||||There are supermarkets and bars/restaurants close by (even a pub called the Peacock) and the town is about 20/25 mins walk - a bit hazardous as the pavements are dodgy (downhill going to town and uphill coming back) and with a lot of traffic, but there was another way down to town towards the sea in a slightly different direction but better pavements and cooler as you are walking along the waters edge and then a bit of it unpaved before you get to the main drag where the popular seafront restaurants are - quite a few bars/restaurants on that route as well - again 20/25 mins.||||If you want to keep the room on the day of departure you just need to ring the hotel the day before or on the morning of departure itself. ||||Elounda was lovely - we certainly had a relaxing time due to the heat and spent a lot of time on the beach (2 beds and a brolly = 7 euros which was very reasonable) and glad we took our beach "slippers" as the beaches are very pebbly and it's uncomfortable to get into the water.||||Lots of places to eat - reviews left - and then some, plus the supermarkets stock everything...
Read moreOnly been home a few days and I'm still in shock that travel companies are still sending holiday makers there,it just shouldn't be allowed.Talk about a case of misrepresentation, please|ignore the photographs on the Olive Grove website which must have been taken 20years ago.I have many photographs of the studios and apartments and they tell a completely different story and photos don't lie.|||We eventually arrived at the so called studios and stood for minutes with our mouths open in shock. We could hardly move around each other, there were no comfy chairs to sit on ,kitchen area was appalling with one cooking ring and no cold water .No decent storage and a bed next to the toilet door. The curtains were hanging off the rail and the door directly onto the Main Street didn't close properly. It was grubby and grimy , I tried to sleep at one point and received bites that definitely wasn't mosquitoes !|Outside was thick with dust and dirt and local bins directly opposite smelt awful ,the noise from night traffic was terrible and we spent the night awake watching rats visiting the bins. The following morning we were absolutely exhausted and we went to the Elounda residency hotel to complain .We were offered a two b/room apartment around the back of the building where we were assured had a garden ,table etc. Even though we had a b/room each the place was shabby and neglected, the so called gardens were a shambles , dangerous underfoot with holes here and there. It had been used by neighbours children and rubbish was strewn around ,and an old pushchair and carpet left.Dogs were chained behind the garden and barked often. Inside not much worked and whenever the kitchen sink was used water ran into the cupboards. We had to use plastic bags in the plug holes as the plugs didn't fit and water ran straight out. All in all an almost 800 pound a week disaster! We are still trying to get over the nerve of the owners who expect people to pay up and put up. It's obvious this place is used for the overspill from the main hotel ,which by the way is no good for anyone who has difficulty walking. Even the locals screwed their noses up when we told them where we were staying ! There are some lovely clean apartments around Elounda,my advice- is to pick one of those if you want to enjoy your holiday...
Read moreMy husband and I spent 10 days at these studios 11th -21st September. I must admit when we arrived in the afternoon by taxi that took 50 minutes because we didn't do a package deal and looked at Olive Garden our hearts sunk. Big disappointment, nothing like the photos. The outside very shabby and tired looking. But we phoned the sister Hotel and within 5 minutes and man arrived with paperwork and keys and showed us to number 9. Was not happy at first sight with studio dark and basic. Balcony had no view because of a great big tree covering the whole of it. Everything very old in room . We decided, well we are here now have to make the most of it not to spoil our holiday.||But after a couple of days for a 2 star it was ok. The studios were cleaned every day. We had clean white fluffy towels and crisp white sheets every other day. There was plenty of hot water every night. I asked the young cleaner for a hair dryer and got one straight away. A bulb in a lamp blew, replaced no problem. Free air conditioning and safe ( which in a lot of places you have to pay for speaking to people we had met.) Free wifi that was good. Also where our studio was it was very quiet. The tv was rubbish, but who goes away to watch telly? ||When we go on holiday, we want to be out and about - on beach- tours- discovering the area and enjoying the weather. I'm not going to complain about studios because they were 2 star. They worked for us, you only need the basics clean beds- towels- hot water and not noisy at night. Its a shame the owners can't spend some money and update them so they are more modern. ||From the front of studios there is a bus stop - small supermarket- and if you follow a slope pass the shop. It takes you along the waterfront and nearest beach. This is the best way to walk into town because there are no pavements up on the road which does get busy. If you go this way at night make sure you have a torch on your phone. If you turn left outside apartment and walk 5mins there is a bigger and better supermarket. Its 15 to 20 mins to the town. But walking the waterfront...
