What an INCREDIBLE stay our family enjoyed at the Olympion Asty this past week. Our goal was to spend a week and enjoy the Ancient Olympia site, and get a well-deserved rest (for myself and my wife) after a busy busy year. We were there with our two teenagers.|I'm going to put things in perspective. I have been travelling internationally for the last 2-3 decades for business and pleasure. I have always stayed at 5 star resorts, and must admit, I am used to a certain level of service and amenities. However, one must also consider that this hotel is situated in a very small town, away from the coast, and hence a different kind of tourism (which is mostly focused on short term stays for trips to the Ancient Olympia site). My expectations were lower when I booked this hotel.||ESTABLISHMENT:|On the smaller side in general. |Beautiful clean and modern rooms. Our room (small family suite with a loft that had 2 beds for our sons) was beautiful. It looked like the room was just built, and with the most contemporary ideas in mind. The bathroom was very well designed. The AC worked very well without a glitch. Even during the heatwave, we never felt any heat. The loft had its own AC unit.|Daily service was unintrusive (even if we were in the room). |No bugs. No mosquitoes. No critters. ||POOL: |The pool was stunningly clean (they cleaned it every day) and beautiful. |The grounds around the pool (and establishment in general) were imaculate and well manicured. The pool had several lounge chairs (high quality and comfortable) with clean towels always available. |There is also a breezy covered space on one side of the pool with a beautiful bar for cocktails, coffees, water, etc...Someone was always present to help you. |Due to the way tourism works in the area (short term trips), our longer (1 week stay) served us very well. The pool was never crowded, and our family enjoyed it immensly. ||PARKING:|There is tons of Free parking with SHADE!!!! In Greece, you really want to have the ability to park under shade in the summer. ||BREAKFAST:|Our breakfast was included in the room fee, so all 4 of us enjoyed it every morning. The hotel had a Buffet Intercontinental breakfast with lots of choices and several traditional Greek flavours available as well, which were an excellent representation of their culture (we should know, as we are of Greek descent) and delicious. |All were high quality. |There were some strict dietary restrictions for two members of my family, and the chef accommodated them without reservation.||DINNER:|We enjoyed dinner at the hotel a couple of times, and both times the quality was great. Hearty meals, yet still elegant and truly flavorful. ||INTERNET:|I had to do quite a bit of work, while staying there this past week. So the internet connection was imperative. Our room was the furthest one from the main building, so the WiFi was not the fastest, but still satisfactory. I could easily do my work, check emails, stock market, etc... Streaming was decent in the room, with the occasional short interruption. |Some days, I would be by the pool (the WiFi was noticeably stronger in the main building and pool area), and was able to do high level streaming without any issue whatsoever. I also suspect the rooms closer to the main building would have equally strong WiFi connection.||FITNESS:|There is no gym on the grounds, but I had a very fit week !|They have a 5 on 5 soccer field on the grounds (can you believe it???), and my kids enjoyed that a couple of nights. It's gated, so you're not worried about the ball going out.|I love jogging, and the scenery was stunning during my 5-10K runs. Really good runs. You would want to do these ealry in the morning due to the heat.||LOCATION:|The location is beautiful. Olympia in general is situated in the mountains. |The hotel is a quick jog to the town (or a 3-4min drive). In the heat, you'd want to drive every time during daytime. |The town is very small. The Ancient site is stunning. T|he two museums are great. |We spent 6 hours on the ancient grounds and museums, and still had to return a 2nd time, as it did not feel enough. So a minimum of two days to see the ancient site is reasonable. ||SERVICE:|In all my years in 5 star hotels and resorts, the service I experienced at the Olympion Asty was by far the top! There was always a smile on everyone's face...but not that "forced" smile you see on those huge resorts. It was that genuine, authentic and welcoming smile. Always warm and heatfelt. ||OTHER:|Olympia is 30min from any great beaches, but it's a very easy drive. |Totally worth staying at a stunning (and quiter) place, and then just driving 30min to any of the many available beaches in the region.|We also went for a day trip to the beautiful Island of Zakynthos. We were able to take our car on the ferry (no problem finding space on the ferry) across and spent the whole day on the island. Amazing experience. I feel we should have added a 2nd island day trip. |There are many other day trips/excursions one could try.||FINAL THOUGHTS:|I believe we will be visiting again next summer and staying at the exact same resort. I feel rested and recharged. |I'll probably add a couple of...
Read moreWe had the best experience! The staff was very friendly and very accommodating - though we spoke Greek - which might have helped. The pool view for swimming and dining put this above the other hotels when I was doing my research. It was just so lovely. They close the pool at 8 PM, so that diners can enjoy a peaceful poolside view with subdued lighting. (See attached photo.) The dining room was lovely and the evening meal we had poolside was surprisingly affordable and very, very delicious. The breakfast buffet they served was huge and self-served in an immaculate dining area. We stayed at this hotel while visiting Ancient Olympia. (On my bucket list.) I swam in the pool twice and it was large and water was very clean and clear. (No chlorine burn to my eyes.) I would recommend this hotel to my closest friends and family members and would stay there again - in a heartbeat. We got the standard room with twin beds. Loved the two-tier setup and balcony - though our view was mostly blocked by lovely olive trees - still beautiful. The water pressure in the tub faucet and shower was outstanding - like coming out of a fire hose. The only non-exceptional amenities were the air conditioning and the television. The A/C was adequate, but we would have liked to have had the room colder - we were there during high heat. The WiFi was great and quick, but the TV tended to lag on some...
