The place is quite isolated, in a group of 2-3 other small hotels. Very nice beach with sunseats and a grand new bar is only 300 metres away. Big supermarket 500m and a couple of cafeterias 1 kilometre away, distance to closest food tavernas in Kato Daratso more than 2 km. (Kalliopi is actually situated in small village called Makri Stihos, not in Kato Daratso exactly.) My room was on the third floor with a seaview, try to get that one. Room was spacious and spotless. Had the only bathroom in Greece with shower curtaing long enough. Owner, Swiss origin lady, is nice and helpful. ||||Now, bear in mind this is a low budget place and what I'm going to tell is just advice how to be prepared, not criticizing: ||- ear plugs, because it's not soundproof inside and the noises of oher guests echo loudly (such a shame, because no noise coming from outside)||- scissors, serrated knife, bowl, pasta rinsing grille...the kicthenette is modestly equipped (no kettle, no toaster etc)||- bottled water, the water from the tap is always warm (close by is a minimarket, from where you can drag the water from)||- the set of a plastic table and two chairs must be carried back and forth to balcony, because there is no furniture there||- wifi keeps collapsing ||||All in all, it was a decent place. The lack of tavernas and the modest kitchen ware plus no soundproof keep me from giving four stars. Still, I recommend it, especially if all you really need is...
Read morePerfect location: 5 minutes walk from a beautiful beach, and a 20 minute walk to the outskirts of Chania. There's a big supermarket just around the corner as well as bus stops taking you to Chania or along the West Coast, with buses running about every 15 minutes until early morning hours. We loved the fact that the location of the apartement was so peaceful and quiet, and yet so close to the hustle and bustle of Chania.
The apartment was exceptionally clean and extremely spacious, and each have either a balcony, or in our case a beautiful and large terrace.
The extra bonus was the charming and extremely helpful owner, who was always full of good advice regarding excursions, restaurant recommendations and transport options.
My son and I had a wonderful time at Kalliopi Studios and will happily return again soon. Highly...
Read moreWe spend a great week at Kalliopi Studios where the beach is just a 5 min walk away. The rooms are big and very clean, with extra bathroom and toilet. There is a kitchen and a nice balcony for breakfast or drinks. The beach with a nice bar, where we spend a long funny evening, is just 5 min of walk away. The city is just 10 min of walk away, partly on the beach and the venetian harbour is about 20 min, which was nice to get really hungry on our way to the city and to digest the way back. But if you have rented a car you can easily explore the excellent restaurants outside of the center. They are always good in telling you where to find amazingingly good, authentic cretan food, if you ask them...
