First impressions of the pool and surroundings as you walk up to the reception appeared clean and well provisioned in terms of seating, shade and sun beds.||Arrived early and Maria was able to allow us to check in to our room. Check in was straight forward with Maria keen to point out the many rules around COVID and expected behaviours. Whilst understandable, especially COVID related, we did find there were lots of rules, which set a subdued tone to how we might ‘enjoy’ our time. The inner areas feel a bit dated and could do with some freshening up. ||This theme continued when we got to the room, it definitely needs some updating. Whilst the mattresses appeared new, sheets and towels fresh, the furniture reminded us of the 90s, built in square wood. There was everything you needed to make a simple meal - crockery and utensils, kettle, fridge, sink and two electric ‘rings’.||Good balcony with comfortable chairs but the painted plastic garden table was perhaps taking the recycling process a little too far with flaking paint every time you moved.||The bathroom seemed to have been upgraded with nice tiling and a shower cubicle, which some reviews have already suggested is a bit on the small side - corner entry and VERY small. Water pressure was amazing and always plenty of hot water. ||Room was cleaned every other day, only downside was this included the bins. If you have visited Greece you will know what this means in terms of the toilet. Was a bit disappointed that this wasn’t a daily task.||The pool was a good size with it’s deepest part being 1.5m so very safe. One ladder to get in and out but very sturdy. Small square kids pool sectioned off as part of the main pool.||Whilst nice to spend some time there, it was a bit sterile. Very quiet and no discernible bar service to speak of, a fridge with some beers and soft drinks but no one really tending the space.||There was an incident with a Lilo - wasn’t sure who it belonged to but it did appear to be claimed by a couple of older ladies after we had been there a couple of days. Obviously couldn’t be sure they hadn’t been there before us, so let sleeping dogs lie. It appeared that they might have left so I used it, and accidentally burst it - sorry, this wasn’t intentional - but I was wrestling it like an alligator trying to get on 😂. Sorry if this caused any inconvenience or upset after we left 😳||Good location, very close to beach and plenty of restaurants, easy 15 - 20 minute walk into the old town, noisy with the hustle and bustle of life in city, however, it’s pretty lifeless around...
Read moreOur stay was great until we returned to our apartment on the 5th day to find that our room had been entered and my watch had been stolen from the bedside table drawer, there was no sign of any forced entry with both sliding and main doors locked. All of the drawers had been opened and left only half closed. We reported it immediately to the lady on reception who came up to take some pictures and then said she’d contact the owner. The owner’s response was pretty much that it wouldn’t be possible for anyone to enter the room as the only people with a key were the reception staff and cleaner but that I was welcome to contact the police if I wanted! Not being a Greek speaker and not wanting the holiday ruined anymore than it already had been I chose not to. I have to say that I was very disappointed at the owner’s reaction as I feel that it should be up to them to contact the police, however they chose not to even make contact with us. Maria on reception tried to be as helpful as possible but there wasn’t much she could do. We’ve travelled the Greek islands extensively and have never come across anything like this so hopefully this is an isolated incident. The hotel itself is perfectly situated and adequate as a base, I would however recommend using the safe (wish I’d taken my...
Read moreHaving been to Crete many times and know the area well we had a couple of reservations when booking this self catering apartment as we usually book.5 star. However upon arrival we were so impressed, firstly Maria the manager is so helpful, friendly and attentive you couldn't not really take to her immediately. Having read a couple of negative reviews prior to arriving I was very surprised that Kleoniki Mare had ANY negative comments, the place was absolutely spotless, lovely pool, great location to walk into the city, stones throw from the beach, sheets and towels changed every 3 days, staff were really pleasant. Our holiday was made all the more special by meeting Maria and Agapi we arrived as hotel guests and left as friends, cannot wait to go back, hated to leave, these people are going out of their way to ensure you have a fantastic holiday, so if you do visit don't make silly comments about the shower being small it's a standard size, ours was fine, we had a great holiday and met great people see you again next year!!!oh and picture is my husband helping out just...
