Stayed at this superb hotel from mid to end of August this year with our family including two children aged 7&12.
Absolutely perfect in every way. I almost didn’t write a review as I wouldn’t like too many people to hear about it and not be able to book again.
Wow, where do I start? Firstly, this is a family owned and ran hotel and they along with their staff are A1. They set the tone perfectly as when we arrived at 2:30 in the morning they offered to cook us some food, what a great welcome.
Okay, breakfast. Served from 7:30 to 10:30 is very high quality with everything on offer nicely presented and either fresh or home-made. Really nice feel and service too.
We stayed in a suite and this was perfect. Master bedroom upstairs and two sofa beds downstairs. Immaculately clean and new looking plus the room was cleaned every day. Excellent.
There are three pools and (I think) 42 rooms, there’s a baby pool and two larger pools all perfect for couples and families, alike. Don’t bother buying inflatables and other pool toys as when we were there, there were plenty to use.
Getting a sun bed was never an issue with more than enough beds for all guests.
Evening drinks by the pool were always a pleasure with George the barman always happy and chatting with our family.
Around the town there are plenty of restaurants and bars and if you just wanted to ‘laze’ around the town there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, probably upwards of 12.
The beach is 300 yards away and again is very nice fir swimming, sun bathing and playing.
There are a few tour companies around and we used the one with the couple (Zenith I believe) to arrange our four excursions to the water park and other attractions such as the lake, all were good value at under 100 euros for the four of us.
To sum up, Crete is beautiful and if you are looking for an exceptional ‘boutique’ small hotel to stay at with a family feel, The Mary Hotel & Suites should be very high up on your list.
For the record, we booked again to come back in 2023, and we have NEVER done this before.
Superb stay,...
Read moreWe’ve just arrived home from staying a week at Mary Royal and I just had to leave a review! The hotel is beautiful, spotlessly clean and our basement studio in the new building was gorgeous. Our studio had everything we needed and suited us well as I struggle with walking distances and the hotel was very easy to use my manual wheelchair from the entrance to our studio (just a couple of steps down to the basement studio). What also makes it is the people who work here, they’re incredibly friendly and they really do make you feel so welcomed. I’m sad to be home as we really enjoyed our stay in Crete with Mary Royal but won’t hesitate recommending this hotel to everyone, it really is a little hidden gem - I hope we will be back one day too! Thank you Konstantinos and your wonderful team (I’ll also miss ‘Mary’ the stray kitten who started visiting the hotel - I wish I could’ve taken her home!).
A couple of our favourites places we discovered for future guests: The little village called Margarites, it’s incredibly cute and we spent so long choosing which pottery to bring home! There’s also Taverna Mántalos, where we had the best lunch - you must go! Added bonus is the beautiful view.
For beaches where the sea is more calm to be able to swim in we loved Kalivaki beach (the one in the West of Georgioupolis) and Kalyves beach (by CostaAnita cafe - they bring lunch/drinks to you on the beach - perfect!).
As a vegan my favourite place was in Chania called ‘Pulse’ - we had a Mezze board and it was incredible. Chania itself is absolutely beautiful too so well worth the journey!
Locally to the hotel we loved Giampous bakery too - not too far to walk to either, and Axos for the best cocktails. Myli restaurant was also lovely too and they’re...
Read moreWe recently stayed at Mary Hotel in Platanes, and it exceeded all of our expectations! Olga on reception set the tone on our arrival with the most charming of welcomes. This family-run hotel has a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and always willing to help with anything you need – their personal touch truly made our stay unforgettable. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and modern, with extremely comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchenette, with everything you could possibly need. We especially appreciated the daily housekeeping service. The spacious balcony overlooked the pool. The pool area is beautiful and always kept clean. The breakfast was exceptional, wonderful selection of eggs and local foods, with owner Jenny’s home made marmalade – a perfect way to start each day.
The location is ideal – just a short walk to the beach and close to a variety of restaurants, shops, and bus stops, making it easy to explore the island. We loved being in Platanes, as it offered a charming and peaceful setting while still being close to Rethymnon and other beautiful attractions in Crete.
Shout out to Konstantinos, - we left our valuables on top of the safe when we left. He arranged for my passport, English money, credit cards and watch to be delivered to me in Rethymno in time for our flight!
Overall, Mary Hotel is an incredible value and a true gem in Crete. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, comfortable, and friendly place to stay. We can’t...
