This restaurant is a disgrace for Platanes. Please, do not let them spoil an evening of your precious vacation. You worked hard the whole year and simply earned something better. And by the way, any other tavern at the street is better.
Now the long story. The only part of the dinner that went smoothly and quickly was greeting at the entrance and seating. We got the last small table in a completely stuffed restaurant and felt very lucky. That is, until we discovered that our table is under a very loud sound system and we could not hear a word from each other. The waiters hectically ran through the place. We felt sorry for them and also a little stressed ourselves. While we were waiting, several staff members found time to apologize for the delay, but never found time to take our order. A large group of guests from the table next to us simply left, tired of waiting, - and probably saved the rest of their evening. Finally, 40 minutes in, a waitress took our order. We had a view of the kitchen and were often startled by the sound of things dropping on the floor (even louder than the now-unbearable music) and the look of things literally bursting into flames well beyond the "flambe"-level. As we had been waiting for a little more than 1 hour, another waiter came to our table only to double-check if our order was taken correctly. It was not. We corrected him, just to get wrong drinks some minutes later. Straightening out the mistake took some more time and waving around. By then, the restaurant was already almost empty, so we could not explain to ourselves the continued chaos and delays. The only hope was that the food would justify the wait. It did not. The appetizer of stuffed grape leaves was plain bad. All pieces were of different size and shape, some were broken, as if someone quickly tried to figure out how to make them and then promptly served this experiment to us. The filling was massively overcooked and tasted like a greeting card from my future stomach ache. They definitely use this dish as a kitchen sink and do not do that gracefully, too. The dish of grilled octopus consisted of two tiny tentacles and several French fries. We suspected that it was a miscommunication, because we ordered the grilled octopus as a main dish but got an appetizer instead. Or the restaurant aspired to serve high cuisine, but only got the size of portions right so far. Anyway, the octopus later showed up in the bill as a main dish. The moussaka I got was beyond bad. I was already very hungry and it was already too late to go to another place, so I ate what I got. However, both its texture and taste were off. The iconic eggplant was replaced with overcooked zucchini slices, the meat was sparse and tasted funny, the disgusting white mass of the top layer was supposed to represent béchamel but failed miserably. The waiter that brought our bill patronisingly explained to me, why the moussaka tasted good and mild. Common, buddy, you cannot explain a bad taste away, not when you are surrounded by plenty of other restaurants, each of them serving their own perfected version of the same dish. As we looked close to berserk at the end of the evening, the waiter offered us a 10% discount on the entire bill. This, funny enough, also felt like a "schema", because the guests at the next tables were offered the same. I suppose, if a guest likes discounts and feels smart and unique when offered them, this trick can totally turn the bad impression around. Mind that the dish prices were still higher than average in the area, discount or not. I wish instead we could return the time that we spent there. And forget their interpretation of...
Read moreWe had table quite quickly which was a good sign.. or not! We waited for like 20 minutes for a waiter to take our order and another 40 minutes to have our food finally arrive. When we finished eating we had to wait ANOTHER 30-40 minutes so we could pay. Considering that the restaurant was half empty, I dont think it should’ve taken that long. The tables around us were also waiting desperately, trying to catch the waiters attention but no luck. The staff “tried” to be nice but they didnt even smile once and they looked annoyed the whole time. You’d assume that they would at least apologize for the delay or at least let us leave when we had empty plates and wanted to pay. Another thing I’d like to mention is that I ordered a grilled chicken and I felt that smt was off. The next day I’m lying in bed with horrible stomach ache and feeling of nausea and I think that it might be linked to the weird chicken. We were there for like 1,5- 2 hours, and out of that time we were eating for like 15- 20 minutes max. The surrounding is nice but thats all there is to it. Horrible experience, the most expensive restaurant we went in, please eat somewhere somewhere else where its cheaper, the staff is nicer and the food is better. If I could I’d...
