Kellari Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

We were served by the lovely Evelina and Aldo and WOW we found such a gem of a restaurant! We were seated straight away and saw the outstanding menu. The hosts were always on hand to answer all questions - from what the foods contained to what wines complimented the foods. SO many things amazing things to choose from the menu - I would highly recommend the salmon and the mussels! And they have a very good vegan menu for my friend who got the delicious vegan gyros.

The food and drinks came out so quick! The food was authentic and so tasty. Some starters that I would recommend is the fried calamari and the stuffed aubergines- all the food had great portion sizes… definitely not going hungry here.

The restaurant was packed full of people and had good music and a great vibe. The restaurant was clean and very aesthetically pleasing. The hospitality was top quality … I literally couldn’t have asked for anything better.

The dessert was phenomenal- we had the baklava and ice cream - wow wow WOW … honestly have never tasted a better dessert! The flavours were exquisite.

Kelleri makes a good first impression – the food is tasty and served quickly, which is definitely a plus. The service is efficient, dishes arrive without long waiting times, and the overall atmosphere is pleasant.

However, there are a few details that leave room for improvement. Water is served in plastic bottles, which feels out of place for a restaurant of this standard and gives the impression of a lack of attention to detail. At the end of the meal, there was no small, thoughtful gesture – no chocolate, no token of appreciation – which made the whole experience feel more transactional than genuinely welcoming.

More concerning, though, are some of the owner’s responses to customer reviews online. Comments containing offensive or inappropriate remarks about other nationalities are completely unprofessional and unacceptable. This kind of communication casts a shadow over the restaurant’s image.

Wow!! The food, Host, Service and everything about this place is astounding!

We arrived in Crete at our hotel around 12 at night and decided to head into town for a quick bite!! Most places where closed so we decided to try our luck, and walked down the street!

The lights where on so we checked to see if they where open! The man was super apologetic that he couldn’t serve us, and explained that his chef had gone home for the night! He then told us that there was a pizza place nearby that should be open and serving food! Due to his kind and caring manner, we decided to return another night! Best decision we’ve made!

He instantly recognised us and asked how the pizza was! We then ordered our food! He brought us tzatziki and bread on the house, which was to die for!! He then brought us our mains which where even better! Finally when we asked for the bill he brought us a huge plate of melon that was on the house and raki!

Could not speak higher of an establishment even if I wanted to! This place is a must...
