We’ve just come back from a week here as a family of 4 and I want to give a honest opinion. We booked with jet2 on the back of multiple 5 star reviews on tripadvisor and we were expecting it to be brilliant. It sadly wasnt and I was disappointed. I’d say it was overall fine with some good points and we still had a good holiday but definitely not 5/5 rating and definitely not 4 star quality hotel. I’d say it was 3 star hotel at best. Do not expect 4 star luxury and it probably won’t be that bad. ||Bad points ||Empty glasses everywhere esp on common walkways. They were eventually picked up to be fair but sometimes sat for hours and that attracted wasps (see more about the wasps below!) ||Tidiness/cleanliness in communal areas not great - needs a more regular clean. Often saw plates, dishes, rubbish lying about for hours before it was cleaned. Spotted a few patches of ants and some cockroaches along main walkway which the rubbish didn’t help with. ||Wasps everywhere even in October and particularly awful at waterpark drinks machine - it was basically unusable and there were no other open bar areas for drinks up that area. Spotted a wasps nest on one of the apartment buildings on way to main pool. This really needs to be removed. | |Bathrooms and rooms were ok but a bit dated and a bit grubby looking. It didn’t feel clean. They really need a refresh. When we arrived bath wasn’t particularly clean (I think this was staining more than uncleaned dirt) but just felt grubby. ||Shower leaked as shower screen not long enough so floor was always swimming in water after a shower which isn’t very pleasant. ||Cleaners came every day but really just made beds and replaced towels. No actual cleaning took place the whole week so it was pretty grubby by the end. Saw a few ants in bathroom and on headboard on last day. Not nice. ||Reception staff curt and not particularly helpful - like everything you asked was a chore especially blonde haired woman who worked during the day. They weren’t rude just more disinterested. | |No snack option other than creperie eg no where serving hotdogs chips wraps etc as have seen in other all inclusive. This would have been a good addition. ||WiFi patchy and disconnecting frequently esp at water park. My husband didn’t have this issue to be fair but I did. ||No iron in room. Plug sockets really limited (we could only see 2). ||The spa entrance is a bit dilapidated and inside isn’t very luxury with mounds of dirty towels sitting facing you! For the price paid for the massage I’d have expected a nicer ambience. It really needs a revamp. A common theme with this hotel!||To keep the room on from 12-7 on check out it cost us 100 euros which seems really steep. We had no choice but to pay it as we had a baby. ||Good points | |Waterpark was good fun and not too busy - pools were cold but to be expected in October. Lots of smaller slides for smaller kids. ||Lots of choice of pools - no problems getting a sun bed at any of them really. Main pool is very lively if that’s your thing. ||Lots of activities on all day for kids and adults. always something to do if you wanted to and the animation team seemed to work really hard. We didn’t do any of it but it was all there if you wanted it. | |Food was not bad at all as all inclusives go - there was always something you could eat and they tried hard with theme nights. Staff at buffet were very helpful and polite. ||A la carte Italian included once per visit - was reasonable food and staff were nice. ||Drinks were decent quality and queues at bar never too bad. ||My 9 year old loved the football pitch and outdoor gym. ||The beach is close by and the pool over the road next to the beach is nice and more luxurious than the pools in the main building. The cafe bar at this bit is clean and does salads and baguettes at lunchtime which is nice. ||I had a massage and it was really nice despite the less than luxurious surroundings. ||Overall I don’t feel like is 4 star or luxury and I’m struggling to understand why there’s so many 5 star reviews on here. It was overall fine and we enjoyed our holiday but the hotel really did let the holiday down.||Some general points |- You def need to hire car if you want to explore the island as taxis are expensive and bus not regular|- Beach towels only changed every two days in exchange for going to spa with cards. No real issue with it but just something to be aware of. Room towels only changed every...
Read moreI was here for a 7 day all inclusive holiday booked via TUI. It was an excellent holiday and hotel experience. The complex consists of a main two story building housing reception, bars, restaurants, lounges, shop and amienties. Behind it is the main pool, animation centre and amphitheatre. Beyond that again there are two more pools, playground, laundry and water attraction. Across the road is another pool and more modern apartments. Each pool area has a snack bar and bar near a tennis court and all weather football pitch with a shaded activities area between the two. There is also a profession spa and wellness centre. The rooms are comfortable with air conditioning and are a reasonable size. Bath, shower and bathroom are adequate with always on hot water and cleaned daily. In fact the housekeeping is very much like that of an hotel, daily, discreet and comprehensive. There are a number of restaurants. The one upstairs has fixed hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner while there is a snack bar open around each pool outside these hours. The buffet food is excellent and augmented by cooking stations where chefs cook to order or serve preprepared cooked food. There is different options every day and there is ample supply of local cuisine and local fruit and veg. The desserts are too tempting (!) and there is always loads. The only critical point I would make is that there is a concentration on soft desserts like cheesecakes etc. and not enough on fruit cakes, eclairs etc. The waiting staff are very efficient and there is enough of them to ensure that clearing is constant and restocking of buffets is discreet and instant. I cannot complement them enough. Under the silent direction of a white shirted maitre d'hôtel these busy drones buzz around efficiently and discreetly ensuring your time there is the best possible experience. The pool areas are clean, the water great and plenty of loungers. It's made clear that they cannot be booked but people still do it anyway. Abuse of this can be frustrating and perhaps there could be more enforcement of the well advertised rule. The animation and shows are very good. The team from pink wave do themselves and their company proud. We met one particular guy called Tommaso, an Italian with a cheeky smile, who made us feel welcome and had a cheery hello every day. Every day around the pool there were a number of shows including some tenors, some dancers and a female soul quartet who brought us back to the heady days of Motown. In the evenings there is magic, theatre etc although we did not partake. The crowd there is diverse with German, Belgian and all the Scandinavians present. A smattering of English, French and Czech make up the rest but I am conscious that this demographic changes depending on the companies. Mostly families with kids. The staff are mostly Greek and Albanian with many nationalities represented among the animators. The reception staff are brilliant. Front of house, welcoming us ( even the night porter) and patiently dealing with anything that might befall us. They are truly the angels. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the village of Kolymbia which is a typical holiday village with local flavour and facilities including a doctor and pharmacist. It's across the road from a pebble beach and there is activities ( paid) there such as banana boat, parachute etc. You can also hire sun ☂️ there. Beach towels are available at the hotel for a small fee. The all inclusive package is not ideal of course and local restaurants and bars feel the pinch. This is off-set however by the Greek staff and Greek produce used in the hotel. I do hope this is a conscious effort though and not a shallow sheen. You can hire local cars/ motorcycles and bikes and engage in local activities such as diving, paragliding etc all through the hotel so this too contributes to the local economy. All in all this was an experience I badly needed and I leave rested, well feed and looked after. A big well done to everyone and I highly...
Read moreThis review is based on a 3-week (21 days) holiday in August 2020
The good: the water park with slides provides great entertainment for children the hotel itself seems relatively clean there is a secluded smaller pool (across the road), which is much more cosy, has a great view, has its own bar, and no loud music and loud guests suitcase pick up service was excellent the sports facilities are okay
The bad: the rooms are only cleaned once every 3 days the airconditioning works with a movement sensor, so at night while sleeping (and while not in the room) it turns off, and heats up rapidly. Regularly woke up completely dehydrated in a super hot room. the matrasses are of mediocre quality, which made my back hurt horribly. Being back home now for two days, I still feel severe back pain the main pool has really really loud music, playing all day. I understand that some entertainment is appreciated, but this made me avoid this pool at all costs. It was unbearable for us to lay there (which we didn't the whole 3 weeks). the 'game area' is poorly maintained, out of date and doesn't add any value. Just buy some indoor pinball machines, arcade games and table tennis and put it in a airconditioned room inside, would be much much better.
The ugly: Food quality was a big deception. Quality was overall low. Being a long time chef in this category of cooking myself, I am confident this has more to do with passion, drive and inspiration of the chefs, and less the cheap ingredients itself. Even with cheap ingredients, you can make something nice. I missed flavour, presentation, 'wow-factor', menu variety. The 'barbecue' restaurant doesn't barbecue at all, but they have an inside grill plate (sometimes hours in advance cooked and than reheated) where they offer overcooked fish and hamburgers. Absolutely no conceptual thought behind it.
The buffet restaurant offers more choice, but it's mostly bland, overcooked and boring. I had the feeling I was only eating to fill my stomach, not because it was nice to taste. It got that bad, that at one point I did my own groceries and bought a sandwich grill to make my own food, and we had to go out for dinner a lot to make it bearable. I have had much, much better all-inclusive food elsewhere. I would recommend the management to visit other all-inclusive hotels to get inspiration, and hire an inspired chef who can level up the menu.
The breakfast is okay, but in the end I was skipping almost all food at the hotel, which is a pity as we paid top dollar for this experience.
Note that I am NOT talking about the mandatory Corona measurements, which have nothing to do with the hotel (but impacted the pleasure of eating, like wearing masks, gloves and not able to self-serve).
The drinks: beer was okay, cocktails were okay, wine was so-so, but the carbonated drinks were of low quality: usually no sizzle, very bland and waiting lines at the pool bar were horrible. 10 minutes for a coke and a beer is too much, and need a solution. rooms are not cleaned very properly. I understand that staff doesn't have much time to clean, but they already only clean once in 3 days, and even then only superficial. There were some glass parts under the sink that have not been picked up in 3 weeks. We dropped some honey on the floor which we cleaned ourselves as good as possible, but the floor stayed sticky on this place for 3 weeks. I don't think the balcony was cleaned at all.
To be aware: be aware that after your stay, you are incurred additional 'taxes' of 3 euros per room per day. These costs are NOT included in the room price. Maybe I missed it, but was unpleasantly surprised that I had to pay another 63 euros for my stay to get pool towels, be aware you have to deposit 20 euros...
