We stayed in the Marathon Hotel for 10 nights in August. We arrived late evening/early morning at 1.30 ish and were greeted by security who checked us in and took us to our room. On arrival at the room we were advised it was temporary for 1 night and we would be sorted out in the morning. Morning came so we went to reception and the lovely receptionist called the manager and we were taken to him. ||We were given an upgrade to one of the pool side rooms which was great as we didn’t have to worry about sunbed wars as we had dedicated beds outside our room, this pool is also quieter so was much nicer. It was cooler than the main pool but once you were in it was fine. ||The room was nice. It includes a fridge and a hair dryer. No kettle, which we knew about before leaving so I had packed one and some cups. Some rooms are advertised as apartments but I wouldn’t say they are your usual apartment that offers tea and coffee making facilities etc. You do get 1 bottle of complimentary water on arrival. ||Outside you have 2 sunbeds and a parasol, also a little terrace area with table and chairs. ||The rooms were cleaned daily if you wanted them to be, the staff were polite and did a good job. There was also no night time noise so slept well. ||Food was always fresh and tasty, there wasn’t a massive choice but a positive to that was the food wasn’t bland like you get in mass produced all inclusive. ||The food area is quite small so you do end up queuing round the area. The air con in the restaurant isn’t great there are ceiling fans and a few units but it does get hot in there!!||Breakfast you have usual bacon, sausage, beans, hash brown type things or fried potatoes, mushrooms, friend eggs, omelette and like an frittata. There was a selection of salad type vegetables too. Also pancakes and sweet cinnamon toast with a choice of chocolate sauce, bueno type sauce and honey. There was a selection of breads, marmalades, jams, cereal, yoghurts and fruit (tinned peaches, tinned pineapple and segments of oranges and grapefruit. Drinks there was apple, orange and pineapple juices as well as your fizzy drinks cola, orange soda, like soda, lemon soda, water. ||Lunch was similar most days salad options, pasta and bolognese or tomato sauce, fries as well as other meats and veg on offer. Desserts like jelly, cake and a set mousse type thing and some melon options. ||Dinner this had some items that were the same each night like the pasta, bolognese, tomato sauce, fries but then there was a variety of meats, fish, salad depending on the night. There were also themed nights like Greek, Chinese, Mexican. Desserts were similar to what o mentioned at lunch they varied day to day. ||Pool bar was nice and the staff were polite and efficient. The beer was nice and the cocktails in the evening. Ice cream is available up to 6pm. They had vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana and pistachio. ||Pizza was lovely and the gyros were fab! ||Evening entertainment whilst we were there was karaoke, bingo, men v women and greek dancers. The area does get busy so you need to get a table by 8:30 as entertainment starts 9:30. We took cards and games to play whilst we waited but don’t play any games whilst you are being subjected to karaoke or you’ll get glared at by the activity man and told to put them away! Who knew a holiday was so regimented!!! ||The manager is lovely always greets you when he sees you and always willing to help if needed. All the staff at the hotel are hard working and polite. The place is spotless and one good thing about the hotel is that you get proper glasses in the evening! The glasses in the day for round the pool are plastic but a solid plastic reusable glass which is great compared to some all inclusive where you get single use plastic cups! ||The hotel is near some shops and bars and a short walk to the beach. There is also a lovely little church you can go to. If you walk to the I love Kolympia sign and go right it’s just down that road. Supermarket is about 60m down the road. There is a shop directly opposite also that you can get water and snacks from there. ||Bus stop is also near the hotel and you can go to Rhodes old town and Lindos, reception have a bus timetable they can give you. ||Tourist tax was €10 per night. ||All in all a...
Read moreThis month my wife and I stayed at the Marathon for the second time. When visiting Rhodes, which is our favourite go-to haunt, we see no reason to stay anywhere else. This time we took our son with us, and our stay was every bit as good as a family as it had been as a couple. We wasted our first stay in Rhodes on a terrible hotel down the road, and now that we've found one we like, we won't make that mistake again.||It's rated four-star but as with all hotels in this part of the world, it's more like a three-star, but it's still a nice one. The hotel is clean and welcoming in every aspect, from the entrance hall to the bedrooms. It has a lovely big pool with a separate children's area, a very popular outdoor bar, a nice dinner hall with an open air section, and a good number of decent sun loungers. We were greeted on entry, and were welcomed whenever we came for meals or returned to the building - I can't speak highly enough of the staff. Everyone was so friendly and courteous. I'm afraid I didn't get everyone's names, but Agnieszka, Christos and Claudia stood out. The manager is very prominent about the place and always greeted us and our son, and we saw him welcoming groups and speaking to newcomers. A very friendly crew.||The rooms are turned down daily, and with care, and the facilities are good - nice shower, good sized balcony, TV, air conditioning. Ours was a family room, with two single beds and a bunk bed set. We managed okay, but it was a little small with three people - I wouldn't have wanted to try with four. There was plenty of storage, a safe, and a fridge which kept things ice cold. There was a fitness centre on site which we didn't use (but should have!), and a children's play area which could use a bit of maintenance. The pool is the big winner - we were always in it while we were there, and it was clean and in great order.||Food-wise, you won't go hungry. The all inclusive meal times are set but are easily workable, and even with my family being notoriously picky eaters, nobody ever complained that they couldn't choose something they wanted. They serve staple fare such as chips, spaghetti and cold cuts, and more unusual items such as veal, calamari, and local cuisine like moussaka. They also always have on hand a selection of bread, and at breakfast, cereals. Between meals, there are holes-in-the-wall outside where you can get pizza or gyros, both of which were very tasty (thanks, Jannis!) For entertainment, the hotel hosts weekly live music - the Passenger Band were there during our stay and everyone enjoyed their work, including our four year-old dance enthusiast!||The bar serves ice cream from opening time, and you can also get water, juice, coffee, and later, beer and wine. They also do a selection of all-inclusive cocktails, most of which my wife and I tried, all of which we enjoyed. Sadly, though, the Marathon cocktail we had some years back is no longer served and we miss it.||Kolymbia is about 45 minutes from the airport with several good beaches so it's a decent resort to consider and the Marathon is right at the heart of it. Right next door to a big supermarket, a few doors down from some nice restaurants and about 10 minutes leisurely walk from our favourite beach. We could also see the ocean from our balcony. There are bus stops right outside should you wish to visit Rhodes Town or Lindos, Seven Springs or Faliraki. There is also a rep at the hotel - really nice chap - who organises car rental and tours.||We miss Rhodes already and we've been home less than a week. A big part of the reason we miss it is because of the Marathon and the team there. We are almost certainly going to go back next year - I've already been looking, but can't seem to book a room quite yet. As soon as I can, I will, because there's no place we'd...
Read moreA warm and relaxing stay — with amazing staff, great food, and perfect car rental experience!
We had a really lovely stay here and would definitely recommend the hotel — especially for the kind and helpful staff and the delicious All Inclusive food. The meals were varied, tasty, and fresh, and we were especially impressed with the Italian pizza they made on site. We also enjoyed ice cream during the day and appreciated that there was always something to snack on. We didn’t drink much alcohol (besides beer), but it was available.
We were three people sharing a room. The room itself was quite simple and small, but clean and functional. We expected three single beds, but the third bed turned out to be a bunk-style one, and a bit narrower. Still, it was okay, and we managed fine. If you’re planning to go to sleep early, it’s better to request a room that doesn’t face the inner courtyard, since the evening programs can be quite loud. Otherwise, the entertainment in the evenings seemed fun and engaging for those who participated.
One big highlight for us was the car rental directly in the hotel lobby. It was very easy and convenient. We worked with Michael, who was incredibly helpful and available by phone at all times. When we had a small issue at a gas station, he immediately helped us resolve it — we felt safe and well-supported. Renting the car allowed us to explore the island, visit different beaches, castles, and towns, and added so much value to our trip.
We didn’t use the pool or stay in the hotel area during the day, as we preferred driving to beaches, but the location is ok, and it’s about 7–10 minutes on foot to the nearest beach.
A few more small notes: • When we arrived, the gym wasn’t yet open (scheduled to open later in May). • During our stay, the tap in our bathroom broke, but it was quickly fixed by staff. • We also requested extra items like a kettle, mugs, blankets — and everything was brought promptly.
In short, we were very happy with our stay. We felt cared for, relaxed, and well-fed, and the staff went above and beyond. This hotel is a great base to explore Rhodes from — especially if you plan...
