⭐ 1 Star – Blue Sea Hotel, Corfu (Argyrades Beach) Date of stay: August–September 2025
This was, without question, the worst and most unsafe experience I have ever had in over nine years of travelling to Corfu.
From the moment I arrived, it was clear the Blue Sea Hotel in Argyrades Beach was being run with absolutely no structure, no management, and no basic duty of care toward its guests. During my stay there was no visible manager or responsible person on site, leaving the property effectively unsupervised, even when there was a power outage and flooding. Staff had no clue where emergency items were, no candles, no first aid kit, and no register of guests in case of evacuation. They laughed at the situation rather than handling it professionally.
The staffing was dangerously inadequate, and at one point an underage girl was serving alcohol behind the bar unsupervised, which raises serious safeguarding concerns. There was also inappropriate behaviour between staff and guests, which created an uncomfortable and unprofessional environment.
The food hygiene was shocking, food was left out for days, flies everywhere, and absolutely no sign of temperature control or basic food safety. There was no first aid provision or safety procedures of any kind. I felt unsafe to eat there and spent most of my holiday avoiding the hotel completely.
On top of that, guests’ room keys were left out in the open at reception with their names visible, a blatant breach of privacy and data protection under UK and EU GDPR.
When I finally had enough and returned home early (two days before my booking ended), I discovered that I had brought home bites that turned into a medically confirmed ringworm infection consistent with fungal exposure during the holiday. I live alone, do not go out much in the UK, and have no other possible source of infection, making it clear this originated from the hotel’s unhygienic conditions.
I have underlying health conditions, including HIV and peripheral neuropathy, which made this entire experience even more distressing and dangerous. I explained these concerns in detail to On the Beach, the company through which I booked, and it took over two months of pushing for them even to respond properly. Despite clear health and safety failings, photographic evidence, and medical documentation, I was offered a mere 10% refund which when that came through was actually 6%, a completely insulting response to what was a serious breach of safety, hygiene, and legal standards under the Package Travel Regulations 2018.
This was not a simple case of “expectations being too high” as the hotel falsely claimed. It was about basic safety, cleanliness, and lawful standards not being met in any capacity. The hotel’s attempt to discredit me by saying I thanked them on departure is utterly false. The reality is I left that note simply to ensure I could leave without confrontation after feeling completely unsafe as a solo traveller
No traveller should ever have to experience what I did, unclean conditions, lack of supervision, no emergency procedures, unsafe food, data breaches, and a subsequent medical infection.
I am now taking this matter further through regulatory bodies. I would strongly advise any traveller to avoid this property and to question how it remains on sale through major holiday providers when it so clearly fails to meet even the most basic safety and...
Read moreBest thing location, the worst thing Claire the hotel manager, and her spoilt teenage boys that attempt to run the bar. This is a hotel that does not give a damn about customer service, all Claire cares about is money, on our last day we were on the way to the beach, and she actually came running out in the road shouting like some old fish shouting in front of guests, asking have you paid for your air con, they wire the side gates shut so guests can't leave without being seen, we were reminded after dinner that we needed to pay. The breakfast was awful and done on a budget watered down juice, and told to buy my own butter, if I didnt like their cheap margarine. Her kids had a rave of up to 200 friends that took over the whole hotel, while guests were trussed up in their hotel rooms, and talking of which, we were given a cave like room with dark brown walls, broken furniture, and under the stairs do very noisy, it was our honeymoon and not ideal, and after seeing other rooms we possibly had the worst room in the hotel. . A nice treat after requesting a quiet private room with a view. No point complaining as Claire is not prepared to resolve anything, we complained about their home grown wine, and was told by penny pinching Claire, it wasn't a problem as she just chucks it back in the barrel..... Yummy.... If you want first class service, or any for that matter, don't go here, what you do get, is no one on reception, Claires mother in law screaming at staff like they are dogs, and herself and staff smoking whilst you try to eat your breakfast, and for God sake with the money you make, and the £5 you charge for a pint of cider, buy some butter, and provide your staff with clean uniforms. Pull your socks up Claire, oh and if you borrow one of the hairdryers, make sure you hand it in to reception if you can find anyone, or you may get accused of stowing it in your luggage Best thing about the hotel the amazing Italian pizza chefs, and the lovely waiter
I have re-posted, as I see visitors to the blue sea are still having the same issues, this hotel came up when I put a search on this year, to which I definitely would not return too, mainly due to the response from Claire, sad to see they are still serving a terrible breakfast, also surprised at some of the responses to my review, if you felt the food for breakfast was fantastic, you clearly haven't stayed in a decent hotel, a hotel should not use it being a three star hotel as a response to serving bad food, and you should not have to pay over the odds in a five star hotel to get five star service, I stayed in another 3 star hotel in Corfu, after our ruined holiday in this hotel, the food was basic, but tasted great, and it wasn't repeated EVERY morning, the customer service was fantastic, and yes the hotel was what you would expect for a Greek 3 star hotel, but it was clean, didn't smell, had comfy beds, and the air con I paid for worked. And nothing was too much trouble, there should be no price affiliated to customer service,...
Read moreBetween August 19-26 I’ve stayed at this "hotel" - the accommodation conditions are difficult to accept, regardless of the assigned classification, the comfort and cleanliness being more than deficient. It is possible that some of the rooms upstairs are better maintained, but I will only present the situation of the room we were accommodated in, located on the ground floor: the building is not at all new – the room we stayed in had not seen fresh whitewash for a long time; there was an unpleasant smell in the room, which the air freshener on the dresser could not cover. the fee for using the air conditioning is 8 €/day, but the noise produced by the external unit of the air conditioning system makes it impossible to rest - I gave up this option from the beginning. the furniture was old, damaged for various reasons. A special mention for one of the armchairs on the terrace of the room, with the back completely exposed, revealing the stringers, also repaired and replaced carelessly, not to mention the handles and edge of the seat, damaged and with the braid destroyed. the door had once been forced open and had remained unrepaired ever since. The lock works quite hard, sometimes it had to be forced to open. sockets and switches cracked or with marks from various... "accidents" (short circuits, malfunctions etc) in the bathroom, many of the accessories were damaged, with traces of rust or had not been cleaned and/or polished for a very long time. What I found most disturbing was the shower curtain, which had not been cleaned for a very long time and already had a reddish tint. In the bathroom, on the ceiling, there were constantly mosquitoes - moreover, the room had no net to protect against insects. our towels were changed only once during the stay. The breakfast was poor, lacked variety and with the lowest quality ingredients - some examples: in the first 2 days there were 2 types of bread (white and black), after which only white bread was offered, brought sliced in a polyethylene bag. the "juice" (one sort only) had such an intense and unpleasant chemical taste that it was impossible to consume a single assortment of "ham" of questionable quality at most I’ve experienced a deep sense of insecurity after a silver ring, left on the bedside table, went missing from my room - it's hard to live under the same roof with people who take things that don't belong to them and/or the people who cover and protect them. To sum up, stay away from such a location if after a year of work you want to relax in at least...
