Dear sirs, before a few days i wanted to make a trip to Thessaloniki/Greece with my fiancee. Working in the travel industry myself, i choose to book my room directly from a hotel's website and not from an OTA. That way my money would go to your hotel and you wouldn't have to share it with middle men... supporting this way (even with a small amount) the hotel owners industry and the quality of the services provided. I booked a room with a double bed (not two singles united together) and gave my cretid card data. When we arived to the hotel, they told us that they don't have our room... they gave it away and my booking has no power at all because the offered rooms depend on avaliability. Sir's, when i see a room in your website it means it is free during the given date i search. That's why i give my cretid card data... to take it out of avaliability for others. This process is called "booking". The staff in the front desk proposed to give us a room with two single beds. When we refused they said that they will give us a room with a double bed.... as the one we booked. After a 20 minute waiting they told us there are two avaliable rooms and we can go upstairs to choose which one we want. We go upstairs... both were with single beds. Going up and down for no reason and wasting our time we refused to take any of those. At the desk again they told us that they will finally give us a room as we book it... if we wait 20 more minutes. We waited 40 minutes... they finally give us a new room.... we go upstairs again only to see that it was one (1) single bed room for one person!!! Spending more than an hour expecting for the obvious.... we took the room because it was too late in the day to search for a room to an other hotel... i had an appointment that i was already late because of the delay and... i didn't want in any way to deal again with your staff since they obviously show a lack of respect for their clients. When later that day i returned to the hotel, the shift manager himself said that i was right and that they will change our room immidiately yet.... this never happened. Worst experience in...
Read morePros: ~ The bellboy as well as the personnel who was asking for our names during breakfast were very nice.
~ Breakfast had a good range of selection ~ The rooms were cleaned every day ~ There was a balcony and a sliding door I could open every night to get some fresh air ~ The receptionist on my last day was also nice and friendly
Cons: ~ My parents checked in at another 5 star hotel nearby and everything looked very different from more spacious rooms to better looking lobby as well as more accommodating personnel. ~ On my second day, I complained about the balcony door that couldn’t be closed and I know it was all just in my head and I was on 4th floor and yet, I struggled to sleep at night feeling a little unsafe because even after asking the receptionist for a check up, nobody came to do so, nor I wasn’t asked to move rooms.
For a 5 star hotel, the bathroom wasn’t looking all too 5 star ish. the toilet was way too old fashioned and it wasn’t flushing properly, there was a window that I couldn’t have opened on my own because I’m literally just 4’11 in height, the bathtub where I couldn’t take a bath in as the drain couldn’t be closed completely, the shower curtain wasn’t waterproof so I guess the cleaning lady needed to dry it everyday.
~ I suffer from Dermatitis hence I needed cool air every night but the air con couldn’t be turned on yet,so I had the balcony door opened every night. Good thing I don’t mind the noise or else I would have gone crazy…
All in all, I couldn’t give this Holiday Inn a 5 star neither a 4 as I didn’t really feel like it’s worth it. I’ve been to other “3 star hotels” that looked way better than here but it was still a good experience,nevertheless,looking...
Read moreI regretted my choice of this property when they told me that they wouldn't upgrade me despite having IHG Diamond status, even though they had a suite that was unsold (for the duration of my stay) when I arrived at 10pm. Instead, they offered me a smaller upgrade the following day, which would require repacking and a move, which isn't appreciated. (I did look at that room the next day, but given it was in a noisy spot near the elevator, I was even less interested in it).
The whole point of status is that I am loyal to IHG in return for IHG providing perks. It is a two-way thing, and this hotel just didn't get that. They just wanted to take the loyalty and not give the benefits. I learned my lesson and will be very cautious about booking lower-end IHG hotels in the future.
There are nicer places for less money, in better locations in Thessaloniki.
Everything about the hotel communicated that the owners were putting profits over guest experience. The rooms and hallways were extremely outdated, feeling like 1985. Only the lobby, restaurants, and pool felt freshened up.
I didn't like the aged decor. I didn't like the dull browns. I didn't like the loud noise of the air-con in my room (I had to sleep with earplugs). I certainly didn't like that the air-con didn't cool the room sufficiently. And I didn't like the location on a busy road.
The hotel seemed better matched for the big buses full of Greek kids/students than for this solo international traveler.
What did I like? The mattress was comfortable enough. The breakfast was okay. Many of the staff were extremely kind. The soaking pool (too shallow to swim) had a...
