We spent three nights at this hotel as part of our tour package, very unpleasant experience. Although the hotel, room and facilities were very good, the service and atmosphere was poor. It is a family hotel, they live on site, to it is their home. The lobby lounge seems not for guest use, more like the living room of the family. No water provided in the room, they charge for bottles of water. The owner behaves like the "dad" of the hotel. Pretends to be welcoming but monitors the guests like a hawk. As is typical in Europe, there are no ice machines in the hotels, but you can get ice from the bar. When we asked the desk for ice, the owner looked at us like we were crazy, I had to explain it was ice for drinks. He begrudgingly gave us a cup of ice but told us to go to the store next door and buy a bag of ice if we wanted more. Thinking we were being helpful, we offered to forego the daily room cleaning, however the owner insisted rooms must be cleaned daily, probably to keep a closer eye on what guests were doing. The owner recommends renting a car from his daughter, so we did. Good price but the car was a junker, dented, old, the AC did not work, fuel gauge did not work, suspension was shot. When we returned from the beach in the car after the first day out, we were reprimanded by the owner's son-in-law for getting the car dusty. Most of the beaches are at the ends of long, dirt roads, so lots of dust everywhere. We were told "this car is not a Jeep, don't drive it to these places", as if we were kids borrowing dads' car. He then proceeded to wash the car immediately right in front of us. We also had to pay cash for the rental, no credit card, a little odd. The breakfast buffet is quite different also. Someone stands at the coffee urn and dispenses coffee for you, seemingly as a nice service, but more likely to monitor everyone's food consumption. The food was fine, but it is all at room temperature. Things that should be warm, like eggs, were not kept in warming trays, things that should be cooled were not on ice packs. The pool and deck are lovely, but difficult to enjoy. Only food and drink purchased from the pool bar are allowed, but the pool bar is never open. All of the lounges and side tables are tied to the deck, so cannot be moved at all, and there are no umbrellas over the lounges so you have to lay in the blazing sun. If you want shade, you have to sit in a chair at the small tables that have umbrellas. Just when I was starting to get over all of these things, check out time came. We had one large bottle of water from the hotel, so had to pay two Euros. I had a five Euro note but the owner only had two Euros to give me for change, short one Euro. So I was told to take one "small" bottle of water as the final one Euro of my change. It would have been proper to just forgo the charge for the initial bottle of water, rather than make me pay more money for his overpriced water. Our pickup from the hotel was three hours after check out so we were graciously allowed to store our luggage and sit by the pool, but were told to take our luggage ourselves to the building next door for storage. We had to haul our luggage and find the room to store it in while the owner and his son sat behind the desk. Really lacking in customer service. It makes you feel like the owner is doing you a favour by letting you stay there, and you should be very grateful, but watch your every move. In summary, all of these things make the stay very uncomfortable and unpleasant, a very negative vibe under the pretense of...
Read moreThis was our first ever overseas vacation, booked through an Air Canada package. Here are my thoughts I randomly collected during and after our stay at Hotel Star, Santorini (which really is not in Santorini but a 15 Euro one way cab ride away)
Shutting down breakfast buffet while people are still eating. On our second last day a couple came into the breakfast room about 10 minutes before closing and the owner and his staff removed all the food while they were eating.
The buffet was pitiful. 4 plates of jams, some cheese and ham. A bowl of yogurt and canned peaches. Corn flakes , really ?
You could not get your own coffee, someone had to pull the lever , It was like the coffee nazis at work. They would not even allow you to pour your own milk into your coffee.(which diluted my coffee to a tasteless mess) . Literally having 2 people standing by the coffee maker.
Power shut off with key, no option for an outlet to charge electronics while away. On my last day I had to keep my room unlocked only to be able to charge my phone and laptop.
WIFI so poor that I was not able to download my emails. Even watching a youtube video was almost impossible since it cut out every few seconds. Not that they told us about the password, we had to ask. And when you finally make it onto the WIFI, you regularly get kicked out every couple of minutes. Pathetic.
Kettle and cups in room, no tea or coffee, sugar etc. I guess I am supposed to drink hot water only. We had to ask for some teabags and were charged. The kettle had to be placed on the floor since the cord was too short to make it on the "table"No water provided in room
TV did not work at all in the bedroom.
We must have had one of the upgraded rooms but it was semi underground with almost no daylight.
Upon arrival we had to schlepp our luggage to the room while one of the people working there walked ahead like he had nothing to do with us. Later on I found out that he told everybody else that he had a "bad knee". More like a "bad attitude" . Nobody contacted me/us as to the breakfast on our departure day (we paid for). So it's another day on this trip that we did not get what we paid for. If I pay for breakfast included, I expect the hotel to provide that very breakfast, no matter how early it is. So we left for our ride to the ferry on an empty stomach
Location mediocre at best. Nothing in walking distance (except a nice little local tavern which offered amazing food at reasonable prices) so it's the public bus or taxis for everything
One of my fellow travelers had left something valuable on the previous island and the hotel sent it over with another guest. The owner of the hotel tried to extort 50 Euros from them to hand over the...

My wife and I just returned from an unforgettable stay at The Star Hotel in Santorini, and I can't stop thinking about how amazing it was! As a family-owned business, the warmth and personal touch shine through from the moment you arrive. The owner was incredibly attentive and genuinely kind—going out of his way to ensure every detail of our trip was perfect, from personalized recommendations for local hidden gems to checking in on us daily with a smile.
The hotel itself is a modern masterpiece, impeccably clean and thoughtfully detailed with all the amenities you could want: plush bedding, high-end toiletries and smart room controls. Our room was spotless and felt brand new, which made relaxing after a day of exploring even more luxurious.
That breathtaking infinity pool! Perched on the cliffside, it offers endless photo-worthy vistas of the sunset-drenched horizon. Yes, it's on the smaller side, which keeps it intimate and uncrowded, but it was the perfect spot for a refreshing dip or lounging with a cocktail in hand.
Overall, our stay was nothing short of amazing—peaceful, rejuvenating, and filled with that authentic Greek hospitality that big chains just can't match. If you're heading to Santorini, make The Star Hotel your home base. We'll be back soon! Thank you to the wonderful team for making our vacation truly...
