Believe me, I normally don‘t write reviews but this I had to get off my chest:
I booked Casa Jaguar in September 2024 via Booking.com, changed my dates a little bit in December 2024 (which got approved) only to have them notice me 1 day before my arrival (5.1.24) that they had to cancle my reservation „because there was a change in the system“.
They apoligized and thanked me for my understanding, lol. I had 18 days planned with them and I did the planning to avoid exaclty what they put me through now: the stress of finding an affortable and nice place where I can write. They said later on, there have been issues with booking.com, then they said, someone booked the whole place for 3 months. That must have happened after my booking I suppose? Only the wind knows the truth…
Anyhow: They did not think about offering me any alternative options by themselves, so I actually had to ask them for that. To be fair, then they put in some effort, but the options I got were far from compairable with their own place.
Long story short: I booked 3 month before arrival and they had plenty of time cancelling me for whatever reason. Doing that one day before my stay, saying „sorry & thanks for your understanding“ was a bit underwhelming to say the least. I can not say anything about the place unfortunaltely, it‘s probably nice. But you should be careful booking it, lol.
I hope the issue with booking.com is gone by now or that they at least overthink their bookingpolicies, if they are unable to have a clear overview on who they book and at what time.
I‘ve got to stay in two different locations now that I picked myself (because their options were not by far meeting the criteria of the room I was supposed to have) and ended up paying around 200€ more then planned thanks to their little...
Read moreGreat stay in St Marcos. Nice and quiet up the hill. Shared kitchen is well maintained and has everything you need to cook by yourself. The dozens of pets (dogs, cats) are cute and friendly.
The yoga studio has a beautiful view and was empty most of the time and was perfect for yoga, meditation or workout before sunset. The bathroom was clean and most of the time wasn't occupied for too long. There is an extra bathroom (and bathtub, not sure about shower) in case of emergency but otherwise one bathroom in the main area is a bit short. Check for availability before eating dat banana ;)
The road up the hill is a good workout and would be almost enjoyable if the majority of people didn't choose the expensive tuktuk to go up. Some sections of that road are exactly 1 tuktuk wide and most of the rest is 1.2 tuktuk wide on average, meaning that you are left with the choice of facing the danger or becoming the danger when it comes to go up that hill.
Obviously make sure you are not more than 0.2 tuktuk wide when attempting it by foot - otherwise a tuktuk will do the math for you. When/if you have time, there are alternative trails to go up and down. They go east of the property, starting slightly more uphill (5 min more north of the property). It takes more time but is enjoyable if you have time - and why come here if...
Read moreGreat place with amazing yoga studio with a stunning view over the lake. The place has a great chill out/ work area and is very good and quite to relax and calm down. The kitchen is the cleanest and best equipped one I've seen here in my month travel in Guatemala and a big plus is that the showers are hot here and the beds are comfy (considered luxurious in Guatemala). I really like the whole layout and design of this place it feels like living in the nature with those beautiful bright open spaces and...
