First off, this is not a fancy hotel. Your expectations need to be realistic considering the location you are in. In comparison to the USA, this is a two star hotel, however it is very clean and comfortable. With that said, here is why we consider it a 5-star hotel for San Juan. ||The room is small but ok for two people. We stayed in 4D which has a view of the mountain on one side and the lake on the other side. There is a small bathroom in the room with hot water - Tip: turn the shower water all the way, then back it off until you feel running water. Less water pressure will give the heating mechanism time to actually heat the water. The room is clean and comfortable for the most part. ||The hotel itself needs updates but it adds to the charm. There are hammocks on every level and places to sit and enjoy the lake view. The restaurant is decent with a great breakfast. You can also use the kayaks for free and it includes life jackets. ||The staff is the reason for the five star rating. They’re extremely nice. So much, that they asked our boat captain to pick us up at the dock connected to the hotel rather than having to walk to the general public dock. The restaurant staff is fast and they prepare good food. ||The location is secluded so you will have to walk five minutes to find a Tuk Tuk to take you into the small town of San Juan or San Pedro if you want more food and bar options. ||What to expect? A small hotel with adequate amenities to spend a couple of days in San Juan. I personally couldn’t do more than three nights, but everyone...
Read moreOK so there are a few important things to know about this location. The Jacuzzi is not for all guests to use you must make a reservation and the cost is 175 quetzals.
At the restaurant the local foods like pepina and one of their desserts you must also reserve that in advance so they can go to the store to get the ingredients for it and cook time. I missed out because I didn’t know this and I only stayed for one night so bummer. Breakfast is included. I do wish they had a little bit more options to eat but it was still good if you didn’t go anywhere else or off property to eat.
The kayaks are for free so that’s a bonus.
To get to this hotel you have to go down a few stairs as it is on the side of the cliff.they do send help if you need it but I would pack light definitely not a suitcase I definitely recommend backpack or a weekend bag. there was another way to get in and out of there on the bottom which is not stairs so not as bad however I didn’t enter there so I’m unsure of where to describe how to get to it.
The staff was very kind and attentive. The room was comfortable I stayed in 3B. The views are amazing there are hammocks and shared tables on each floor.
There is no air conditioner or fan that’s my only complaint but I left the window open which has a screen netting and it was sufficient for a night it’s pretty cool on the lake at night and mornings.Only gets warm in the afternoon in which I wasn’t in the room so worked out.
I absolutely enjoyed my stay here and definitely would come...
Read moreA comty eco-friendly stay with a great view of the lake Pros: eco conscious and friendly! I really appreciate their dedication to trying to help the earth. their hotel is made to look like an old castle with materials that are very "earthy-looking" so that was lovely. the view from the porch, with hammocks and seats from in front of your door. breakfast was included and delicious. coffee great too, as well as filtered water provided for free. the wonderful layout of the property with paintings, places to sit and walk. -I didn't use the sauna pool area as it was ar extra cost but totally looked beautiful. loved the painted deck area. The room was lovely and clean. Shower had hot water. staff was sweet. Cons: Located on the side of a hill, it was a little challenging to get there as tuk tuk's would drop you at top of road and walk down the pathway (although found out later tuk tuk's can go around to get you there) -I had asked to stay in a room away from the noise and they put me in a room on the second floor which was the level of the restaurant so you can hear people early in the morning and at all times which kinds sucked. There was a loud party happening at the bottom area of the hotel late until the night, which was exactly what I was trying to stay away from. Unfortunately you can't see the sunset from this angle but that's not the property's fault (stay in...
