I stayed here one night because the hotel I was going to stay was booked. And it was a huge mistake. The rooms I stayed was on the ground floor. It was dirty and smelly. Also, the curtain which didn't work out so I used my blanket to hide the room because otherwise others can see through everything in my room! The bed wasn't inviting so I used my sleeping bag for hiking to deter from getting any troubles. The bathroom is pretty bad too. The staff said that there's hot water, but there's none. The nightmare happened at 1 am. I heard the glass was broken and people on the upper floor were fighting. They continued fighting like 1 hour. It was just terrible. Read moreThe people who own Hotel San Francisco and Hotel Colibri are brothers. Don't expect 3-star accommodations in the cheapest hostel in town. Also, we came during the slow season, so many rooms were clean and available. WiFi worked ok. The family is simply trying to offer a roof, a bed, WiFi when its working, kitchen, and other basic accommodations. We found them to be nice and agreeable, but probably because our Spanish is moderately good. We don't expect everyone here to accommodate Americans for dirt cheap. All of that being said, as experienced travelers, we have decided the value of more security (they have tiny locks on the room doors, and only one key between two of us) is worth $5-10 more...
Read moreThis place is great! Stayed here with my wife while backpacking through Guatemala in 2009 and again this time around with a friend. Definitely a bit rough around the edges- wouldn't shower without flip-flops- but I'm not sure what more you could expect when your paying as much for accommodations as you would for a Sunday paper in the states. The views are outstanding, the staff is all smiles, there is a common kitchen and the WIFI works pretty well. If you are looking for a developed nation's hotel room, this is not the place for you.
