The cafe makes good drinks, has a nice open space, a relaxed atmosphere and the owners were polite which was why we initially kept coming back. However, we eventually got the message that working on the WiFi was not plausible despite a couple reviews stating they did. Recommend for a coffee and to socialise but not for working.
For context they have WiFi readily available but after going here 4-5 times in the afternoons post Spanish classes -towards the last 2 visits, we definitely got signs of feeling unwelcomed via certain actions, which started off with unplugging the router( the first time I noticed it was unplugged but gave the benefit of the doubt that it was an outage though the second time confirmed it was clearly intentional) then it was letting you know the price of the item by putting a paper down or the cold body language each time we visited and paid which oddly didn't happen the first few times. At first my partner thought it was in my head but after the last visit it was pretty clear when the owner all of a sudden came by and said " no mas tiempre" which is "no more time", despite the place being empty in the moment. That last afternoon we were there between 1.30pm-4.30pm and they close at 8.30pm.
Perhaps due to the language barrier they never tried to explain this and instead used passive actions and cold gestures which makes you feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed at the time. We always ordered drinks, desserts and tipped but there may be limitations with the WiFi, i.e maybe a limited data plan as the place wasn't ever full.
We ended up visiting another cafe close by for the rest of our week and they made great drinks, were extremely kind, welcoming and was able to support the use of WiFi. They even told us to stay longer one of the evenings even though they...
Read more5 stars for Smoking Joe's BBQ on Sunday. I've had lots of American BBQ and I've also been to Texas to try some of the best of the best. I was thoroughly impressed with the BBQ and the value of the full meal.
The beef brisket for 80Q ($11~) was fantastic. Tender and juicy with a great smokey flavor. It wasn't the best but it's definitely better than a majority of the brisket I've had in the states. The selection of BBQ sauce was fantastic too with sweet, spicy, vinegar, and mustard styles. Definitely the variety that I would expect from a proper American BBQ spot. Joe really knows what's up.
Then the value of the meal really comes through with unlimited trips to the sides buffet. The baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, buttered toast, and corn on the cob were some of the highlights.
The meal is expensive relative to the rest of the city/country but for some really great BBQ, it's worth a splurge. Would...
Read moreOrdered a pour over and crepe and took 40 minutes to receive my order, only one person was ahead of me... the pour over was great and I thought I'd give them another chance today because they're the only cafe open when I wake up, and they wouldn't serve me a pour over, gave me no reason why, just because they didn't want to make it? Clear to me they don't care about their customers. I should've known because of how long I had waited the day prior that it wasn't going to be any better this time around. Good coffee,...
