What a great find! To be honest, we booked this hotel as we only decided to go to Eger a few days before our stay and many others in the town were already fully booked, but I’m really glad we chose the Romantik. I see there are a few poor reviews on this site but they all seem to be from a number years ago, I certainly couldn’t fault the place and if I ever return to Eger (and I might well!) I’d definitely stay here again!||||It’s much bigger than it looks from the outside but has a cosy feel, the rooms weren’t large but more than adequate for our two-day stay, very clean, with a comfortable bed and one of the most powerful showers I’ve ever found in an hotel – I couldn’t use it on full power!||||Breakfast was included and very good, with a great selection of fruits, meats, cheeses etc, and eggs cooked to order if required, served in a light and airy room which looked out onto an attractive garden – a lovely spot to relax with a drink or a book. ||||The staff were, without exception, great. They were all very welcoming and went out of their way to be helpful – the guy on reception noticed me smoking while we were parking the car so offered us a choice of rooms opening onto the garden so I wouldn’t have far to go if I wanted a cigarette! They all spoke some English, the guys on reception fluently. They showed us how to get to the pedestrian area of Eger – a couple of minutes’ walk away, so close but far enough away for the hotel to be quiet at night – where there were a large number of restaurants and wine bars (and the castle, well worth a visit!) and suggested places for us to eat, drink and visit; they even told us the best way to get to a nearby thermal baths we told them we were planning to visit on the way back to Budapest.||||We really enjoyed our stay, köszönöm szépen, Hotel Romantik, thank...
Read moreWe very much enjoyed our three-night stay at the Hotel Romantik. Our room on the third floor was comfortable and quiet. As some reviews have noted, the rooms have older furniture. The bathrooms have been updated. Think “old school bed and breakfast,” and you’ll understand the ambience. The friendly staff, who speak excellent English, were always ready to help. Breakfast is served in a lovely, garden-view room. This hotel is not a good choice for those who have difficulty climbing stairs, as all the guest rooms are up at least one flight of stairs. It is handy for those who like to walk, as the pedestrian zone of central Eger is just down the hill. It is conveniently located next door to the popular Egri Road Beatles Museum, and since there are signs around town that point the way to the museum, it is easy to find the way back to the hotel! The “Valley of the Beautiful Woman” (the site of many famous wine cellars and restaurants) is about a 25-minute walk from the hotel. We were able to walk to a bus stop a few blocks from the hotel where we could catch a bus to Budapest. It should be noted that the fare had to be purchased from the driver using exact change. Eger is a wonderful destination, and if we return, we’d like to stay again at the...
Read moreVery good location and easy navigation to the hotel address. Clean room, good TV screen, very atmospheric breakfast room and garden. Not so impressive building from outside, but nice furnishing inside.||||Very small parking place (what more - not marked as "Romantik Hotel parking place") - only for 3 cars, so if there are more clients, they have no chance to find a parking place. I got the last one - and it wasn't so easy to park there without damaging car.||Breakfast room is very nice but not big enough - in my case all rooms were fully booked and it was very difficult to pick up anything from the table (the table is put into a corner of the room, so 2 people can already make a crowd there).||In general it was one of the most expensive hotels during all my private trips, but quality just normal/standard/average. So the quality-to-price ratio cannot be good - it's even very low. I think it was the biggest disappointment - don't expect anything really special. It's neither romantic,...
