For that price - it was decent, but no superlatives. Hotel food is what it always is - hotel food. But being in Hungary, it was prepared with a little more care than what I am used to in other European hotels, so it was a nice experience. Also the waiters were neat, quick and always busy, tables were clean and quickly served. We tried their "house" rosé wine and it was superb. Not bad - for a hotel - at all. But for a REAL Hungarian food-gasm, find yourself a traditional Hungarian inn elsewhere. The cocktail bar was rubbish. And expensive. If you order an Aperol spritz, you get that orange thing everyone in the whole Europe gets. But I ordered it with Campari instead of Aperol, and they only watered a shot of Campari with soda, but charged the whole price. Prosecco? They've never heard of it... Then the cheezy band started to play and they were even worse than the cocktail bar, so we left. They always play music in the dining room - in the evening the guitar player was allright, very Paco-De-Lucia artistic-like, but in the morning an accordion kid was playing in a terribly depressive way and killed the mood. The guests didn't mind though - they were busy waiting at the coffee machine - you needed to pour yourself at least 2 capuccinos and 3 espressos to get a least a little bit of a kick ... Coffee in Hungary, in gerneral, isn't much to be talked about. If you really want keep at least SOME of your mood, DON'T try their tap water. Later I bought myself some bottled mineral water in Lidl and it still tasted like swimming pool waste. The pools are becoming a little worn out. I cut myself on a sharp underwater edge in the outside pool and bled quite nasty. The workers patched me up quickly - not looking surprised at all, and when they asked me where and how I cut myself, it seemed that they knew about that spot. That ended my "spa" experience quite quickly. And having hurt a finger on my foot it ruined my whole Hungary experience too because I wasn't able to walk around very much. Not that there is much to see. The view from our balcony was very "socialist" - in a bad way. Apart from our hotel and that famous lake - which you cannot approach if you don't buy the ticket to get in, the whole town seems it was last renovated sometime in "dark" socialist times. We found a dirty Trabant in the street and together with the depressive decaying scenery it looked like 80's came back. Lots of houses falling apart and only our hotel looked like it's being used...
Read moreThe best:||-Very clean and quiet rooms.|-Very fluffy bathrobes, and one spa towel and spa undertowel. |-Enough parking lots.|-All thermal and treatment places are very close to each other and totally barrier-free.|-Helpful, patient and nice staff - all of them, from the receptionists to the first-aid paramedics to the housekeeping ladies.|-Spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, table and chairs in the balcony are a plus. --Fresh, well-cooked, savoury, mostly Hungarian food, not too much variety but everything was very tasty and easy to digest (a plus for ailing guests). We enjoyed especially the goulash, the fish stews, the "bivaly" (oxen) slices, the beefsteak tartar, and the hot Hungarian desserts (the hot curd cheese pastry with berry sauce was wonderful, for instance!).|-The outdoor heated pool with jacuzzi and bubbly "hotspots" is fantastic and big enough to accommodate a few dozen guests at a time.|-Pets are welcome, a big plus for many elderly patients who can't bear to be separated from them. ||Can be improved:||-Zero bottled water in the room (c'mon, this is an intensive thermal treatment facility, and constant hydration is a MUST!), although there are two drinking water fountains in the basement/spa area, and one drinking water spigot inside the breakfast and dinner restaurant.|-EVERY drink at lunch and dinner (except tap water) must be paid extra - and it´s expensive: I mean, 4 Euros for a 1 liter water bottle? A hint: there´s a tiny tobacco shop just opposite the hotel where you can buy water, sodas, beer, and alcoholic beverages for a fraction of the price they are asking at the hotel.|-No lunch is included, only breakfast and dinner. The only place you can have a narrow selection of hot sandwiches and simple dishes is the bar on the reception floor. Again, no free water or any kind of drinks.|-No coffee/tea with the dinner buffet offered - again, this is a half-medical spa where most guests would really appreciate some kind of digestive tea/chamomile/herbal infusion after dinner. |-No bedroom slippers unless you are staying in a "superior category" room.|-The indoor swimming pool is very useful, but 28ºC water temperature (at least, that was the advertised themp) is a bit too chilly for wintertime. ||Overall, 4.5 out of 5 points, we were very satisfied, and we will...
Read moreWe have been here several times, most recently from 4 to 11 February 2023. We have to state that the level of the hotel is getting worse year after year and this time we were already so disappointed with our stay that we will not come here again unless there is a radical improvement in all directions. It starts with the management of the hotel, which is either incompetent or not professionally up to par. Otherwise, the director could not order not to publish the menu for lunch and dinner for guests who have half or full board!? The hotel has seven floors and has 3 elevators. One of them is not working for the second year, so when the hotel is more occupied, you wait for long minutes for the elevator. The hotel bar has slouchy armchairs and shabby upholstery. The furniture is past its best years and needs to be replaced. You don't get warm in the bar - it's cold there, so we don't recommend it. The hotel is equipped with a swimming pool, a hot tub, thermal pools with healing water, an outdoor experience pool and a sauna world. Although the facilities are great, there are issues such as the automatic doors not working, the outdoor sauna is limited to 3 days a week, the sauna lacks thermometers, multiple sauna timers, and the "sauna" in the indoor sauna is in a bathing suit!? :-( The four-star hotel offers lunches and dinners without tablecloths on the table with only plastic placemats and gives cloth napkins. The quality and range of food was at a really low level this year. You can feel the great savings on the quality of the raw materials. A plus is the offer of a non-alcoholic drink included in the price. In general, the hotel would need better management and complete repair and renovation of...
