Just returned from O Pescador for a 32 day stay and loved every minute! There have been improvements to the hotel since last year which will be reflected in my review. This time we booked the hotel before we left last year and secured it with a deposit. We opted for a harbour room (which you cannot upgrade to when you go with Tui!) These rooms are facing the jetty and away from the other hotel with the weddings. ||We arrived on an early morning flight so we asked prior for the room to available which it was. They are in process of redecorating and updating the harbour view rooms, unfortunately our room was still waiting.||Pros - improvements ||I wrote in my review last year that there wasn’t enough storage space in the room as no bedside cabinets or cupboards and as we were staying for month it wasn’t adequate. This was rectified with a cupboard with 3 shelves in it being delivered to our room. It had been specially made for us. The hotel had read and listened to my feedback and acted on it. ||The breakfast area had been covered in netting and plastic sheeting to stop the crows from stealing your food when you got up from the table!||New coffee/tea machine. Makes lovely cappuccinos.||More fruit options at breakfast and fruit juices.||Whiteboard up to tell you what is available on request eg omelette, fried eggs etc||Actually saw the staff cleaning the beach. The other hotel clean it regularly but only on their side. It was lovely to see and as we regularly walk along the beach and it was definitely cleaner than last year.||The toilet by the pool was regularly cleaned throughout the day. This didn’t happen last year.||General washing down of the pool areas, steps, paths etc. Never really saw any of the staff washing and scrubbing the floors last year.||Information on trips etc put up by reception desk.||New wrought iron balcony furniture. Lovely, but need to put something on the concrete blocks on harbour view rooms spikes etc as pigeons are regular visitors and will ruin the padded chairs. ||Cons||The hotel still desperately needs a block of toilets for hotel guests at the pool. One toilet for guests and staff is not adequate. Although I think there are plans in the future for this to happen.||Need an industrial toaster for breakfast. The first toaster only worked on one side. Guests complained when management came to talk to the guests. New 4 slice toaster came and lasted a couple of weeks. The following day the old toaster came back still only working on one side! I think invest in an industrial one that lasts!||The pool needs updating. There are missing or chipped tiles. Also the pool never seemed to look clean. I never saw anyone cleaning the bottom of the pool with filter and mop or testing the water. I did see someone just using a fishing net to get leaves etc out of the water and they was I think messing with a filter.||More sunbeds and parasols. Two weeks into our holiday and we were struggling to get sun beds, people were using chairs or sitting on the grass. There are only about 12 beds and 3 parasols and that isn’t enough as there are 22 rooms. Even if they don’t put them all out at least when it gets busy there are spares. ||When they come to clean the room we used to ask them to sweep and mop the balcony as like i said previously the pigeons etc leave a mess and also because there is an aging drainage system rust drops down when the birds land there, making it difficult to walk on in bare feet.||Overall||I know the hotel is making improvements all the time when time and money allow. You have to put in perspective that this hotel is a 3* star and I hope my review reflects this. Yes the rooms are basic as is the hotel in general but it has its own personal charm. The bay is beautiful, it is a public beach but hardly anyone uses it so it really is like a private beach. I would say if you are thinking of staying here Jan/Feb and are going with Tui expect weddings every day at the hotel next door. Some of the weddings are noisy and where the Tui rooms are situated you cannot avoid the noise. We stayed from 20th Feb and noticed a big difference in March as they got fewer as March progressed.||We did go into Panjim once using the bus which was experience! You can catch it on the roundabout. We enjoyed but once was enough for us too busy! Went with friends to a few restaurants in Panjim but to be honest the food in the hotel or around Dona Paula were equally as good or better. Did like Bay 15 though but you do need a taxi or Tu tu to get you there.||I have to say the staff make this hotel and are 5* quality. Need to say thank you to the waiters Poly, Vansh, Sony, Akshay and Sandeep for serving us food and drink and having lovely chats with you all. |A massive thank you all the reception staff Salim, Vinanti (who is very talented artist and took time out to design a henna on my arm) Valencia who works tirelessly and always eager to help you and finally Akash he is very patient and listens and acts upon your feedback. Thank you we do appreciate all that you do for us guests.||See you...
Read moreRight from the time I’ve booked this property, I felt I had taken a wise decision. They respond to your calls up your calls & messages promptly.|Valencia, who manages the front office at O’Pescador was in touch with me and assured a great vacation for the 3 of us including a 9yr old child.|We were lucky to grab one of their best view rooms- the Harbour facing room. We got one at the top floor (there are 2 floors).|Our checkin was supposed to be very late because we would be at a friend’s place for dinner on arrival in the evening. So left a note. Salim, another charming gentleman at front office was there to welcome us at 11:30pm. The checkin was in a flash and the super hardworking staff helped our bags to the room. It was way too gorgeous than the images shared in reviews.|O’ what a view- O’Pescador you’ve won our hearts !! Roaring waves hitting the rocks and at times when tides were high, some splashed onto the building as well. You live right on top of the waves. A beautiful wide glass pane on the wall ensured that we probably wouldn’t switch on the room lights after dark. The lights from the Dona Paula jetty would just add to the romance of twilight in the rooms. Trust me, you would not want to do anything else but just live every moment out of your bed gazing at the view. The private balcony with seating has been done so well that you get shade when it’s bright and sunny and wind as well because of the open air design.|The property takes you back in time yet with all the modern amenities you’d need including great food to give you the best vacation one seeks. Buffet breakfast is never boring. Everyday a new spread of continental & Indian cuisine. Our kid just loved the pancakes and everything.|The Private Beach or rather a Private Cove is just WOW ! It’s clean, full privacy and just a few steps from the Pool. The pool shower is in the open and feels like you are under a waterfall in the wilderness. Sparkling clean pool that is regularly cleaned (but just mind the steps as the tiles on the edge of the steps are sharp and I got a small nick on my knee). The plantation around the property attracts lots of birds and insects and I was happy with some macro and bird photography as well. They have a backside access to cabs which is easy for those who stay at the Harbour side rooms. Food at the restaurant is slightly expensive but the taste and quantity is absolutely wonderful. The Best part of the property is that the staff are so quiet & hardworking and in the 7 mights that we stayed I didn’t hear an argument nor anyone talking loudly. I would recommend this property to everyone who loves peace and is looking for an exotic holiday that shall be cherished for a lifetime. Specially with kids and elderly, just...
