Shalom Guest House — Hotel in Goa

Good experience for staying in South Goa! Pros: The rooms are spacious, comfortable and family type. Great stay for couples, families and everyone! The location is great,near Colva police station and reachable from Market, Madgaon and railway station. Around 4-5 kms away. View from room is great if you take the backside rooms.The Coconut trees n the verandah. The hotel is nearby to Colva beach. Just 15-20 min away from beach and also Serbaunalim and betalbatim beaches are half an hour distance from the location if you reach by Scooty or rentals.

Cons: The rooms are not cleaned regularly! I stayed there for 5 -6 days and I got my room cleaned only once! The cleaners are not there, just the one person who's there is the Reception lady, Salina. Even if you tell her to get the room clened, she only tells that she'll get it done from cleaners but there are no cleaners for the property. I got my room cleaned only once in a 6 Nights stay! So pathetic cleaning service. Also The reception lady is very rude! We went there around 11.30pm in night and she was even informed about that, after that also she kept us waiting and was disappointed to see us. Don't know how people will come to get welcomed like this!! She's always rude and arrogant to the guests. The Hot water facility got off somehow while we were staying there and it was quite cold so I asked the receptionist to get it fixed. She took 2 days to do so. And provided the next room for 15 min to get us freshen up, that too she called so many times that the lights are on and wrap up fast n all ruckus. Also The Wifi doesn't work at all! If you're thinking that you can work and stay there, no way! The Wifi is only for showcase purpose. It doesn't work and if you complaint about it to the receptionist,she just says that she'll get it fixed, but till you leave the hotel, it's not working only. And the TV doesn't work! There is no Dish and no cable connection, just the TV are there to show the guests that they have provided the service.

Harsh who is the caretaker of the guest house is the last person you want to deal with when you are on vacation. He quotes astronomical prices for services which otherwise would cost only a fraction.

When we reached the guest house we were greeted by a locked reception office , we had to call the owner who sent for the caretaker. He arrived leisurely 15-20 mins later while we waited at the gate with luggage tired post travel.

Once he arrived he had the audacity to start demanding full payment of the stay and additional deposit of 1000₹ (neither of which was mentioned on booking.com ) And this was without checking us in or giving us a place to set down our luggage. This Uncouth behaviour will never be forgotten.

We stayed for 4 nights. And on the night of departure we asked him to book a taxi to reach the railway station which is a mere 5km away for which he demanded 1200₹ Goalines the taxi cab app quoted a mere 250 ₹ for the same.

The per night stay prices were also way higher than it should have been.

The biggest rip off I've ever seen was when they advertised AC rooms in booking.com And then procede to demand 250₹ pernight electricity charges if you use the AC. They have made sure to write in fineprint about the additional charges on booking.com after conning you on the large print of AC rooms.

I stayed at Shalom Guest House, Colva, Goa with my family from August 30th to September 4th, 2025, and the experience was very disappointing. • No Front Office or Staff: There is no permanent staff, and especially no working front office to assist guests. • Misleading Information on Booking.com: The listing shows “no advance payment required”, but immediately after booking, the guest house emails asking for 50% advance payment to confirm the booking. • Hidden Charges: At check-in, the first thing they ask is to pay INR 300/day for a gas cylinder, which is never mentioned during booking. • Facilities Not Provided: The property listing mentions Beachfront, Coffee Machine, Washing Machine, Dishwasher, etc. — but none of these facilities are actually available. It is not beachfront as advertised. • Poor Hygiene & Maintenance: Pillow covers, bed sheets, and blankets were dusty and had a foul old smell. Extra beds for guests are stored openly in the staircase without any cover, which is unhygienic. The knives provided are useless for cutting, and the microwave was faulty. Overall, this property is misleadingly advertised, unhygienic, and poorly maintained. I would strongly advise against booking this place.
