This review is only for Aadhi Bhavan (Anna Lakshmi Grand) hotel in Four N Square Residency. My very first one star review... That too without tasting the food there...
My colleagues & I went to the hotel in the afternoon hearing good reviews. The place was full but not crowded so we searched for seats. We found a table but as soon as we were about to sit the waiter arrived and informed us that there are people already waiting for that table and that we may wait in the lounge till another table clears. We moved to the lounge at the entrance of the hotel and waited for our turn. We even informed the reception lady that we were waiting for a table.
We saw people coming to the hotel getting greeted by the waiters at the entrance & they were taken to tables "reserved" for them. I was curious and asked the reception lady that if there was any system in place to reserve table through phone or even in person but she informed that it was not the practice there and she herself went inside for a table for us. She quickly returned and informed us that our table was ready. Starving, we went inside only to find a waiter seating somebody else at that table.
The waiters were reserving seats for regular customers it seems (may be for better tips or loyalty) and since it was our first time, they didn't care much for us. We had a chat with the manager who offered to move the already seated customer for us (a pathetic move). We left the place with the bitter experience and empty stomachs.
My rating is for the customer service... For rating of food, you need somebody who is a regular there...
Read moreWe came to India & Palakkad after almost 4 years, my dad did come and stayed here in September on his own.||||This is a fairly great and decent place to stay when you are in Palakkad. We arrived here around 1:40PM and check in was very prompt and friendly. Got an Executive Room, 2004, surprisingly had 2 TV's and a very large couch. Bed was big enough and comfortable to accommodate even 3 people. Very comfortable sleep overall.||||Bathrooms aren't too bad either, the only thing is we have to turn on the switch for hot water.||||Staff are very friendly and quick to respond to anyone's needs, like for room service, bags, coffee, etc. They also help you with bringing the bags to and from your room (to and from your car). Our main purpose is due to the fact we have a family temple we visit that has been there for many generations so while the place is fairly far from here, we usually stay here as the main town for shopping temple related items.||||Now in terms of the restaurant, the name Annalakshmi Grand is no more. However, it is replaced by a different name (Aadhi Bhavan). Much of the time, while the service was great and the food was of excellent quality, the problem is that certain items are just not served at certain times, and this should be clearly indicated in the menu. Some clarity would be appreciated. This was especially a problem at dinner time & the next day a little past breakfast and before lunch as we were at a temple for an important religious function.||||Definitely recommend this hotel if you visit Palakkad. Read moreWe took a trip to Palakkad for some religious reasons and this hotel looks like a fairly new and recent place. There's a vegetarian restaurant called Annalakshmi Grand, which is downstairs. We had food from there twice; lunch and dinner and both times were amazing. Though we stayed one night, it was very comfortable, bathroom was very nice, excellent shower and bed was comfortable. Staff was overall very friendly and accommodating. I also liked that because we had a local Indian sim card/number, instead of trying to find a local shop in the town of Pallakad, he was able to recharge all 3 of our phone's sim with no fuss. Not many hotels that I know of in India will do that, so big plus on this.||||The rating would overall be a 5-star but the reason I've docked a star off is because while it is beyond their control, it was a major surprise to see the Annalakshmi Grand restaurant closed due to the hartha (government strike/holiday) in Pallakad. They made it up by offering some food, which for the most part was average at best. I was hoping to at least have some dosa for breakfast and maybe Indo Chinese for lunch. Except for all that, it's a very good place to stay. ||||If my travels bring me back to Palakkad for leisurely reasons, I would be more than happy to...
