A Heavenly Retreat at Taj Vivanta Shillong!

I recently had the privilege of staying at the enchanting Taj Vivanta Shillong, and I must say, it was an experience beyond my expectations. From the moment I stepped foot into the hotel to the day I bid farewell, every aspect of my stay was nothing short of exceptional.

The warm and sincere welcome I received upon arrival set the tone for a memorable stay. The staff at Taj Vivanta Shillong were not only professional but genuinely friendly, with ever-present smiles that made me feel right at home. Their eagerness to assist me with any request or inquiry was truly commendable.

The check-in process was smooth and efficient, which was a relief after a long journey. I appreciated the attention to detail as the staff ensured I was comfortable and well-informed about the hotel's amenities and services.

The ambience of the hotel was simply marvelous. The tasteful and elegant decor complemented Shillong's natural beauty, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. Everywhere I turned, I found immaculate cleanliness, which further added to the hotel's charm.

The room I stayed in was luxurious and thoughtfully designed. The attention to comfort and convenience was evident in every detail, from the plush bedding to the modern amenities. I particularly enjoyed the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes from my room's window.

The room service was top-notch. The staff were prompt and courteous, attending to my needs with utmost professionalism. Whether it was requesting extra towels or ordering a late-night snack, they never failed to deliver with a smile.

Now, let's talk about the culinary experience - it was a culinary journey like no other. The hotel's restaurants offered a lavish spread of delectable delicacies that tantalized my taste buds. From local specialties to international favorites, every dish was prepared to perfection. The dining experience alone would be reason enough to return to Taj Vivanta Shillong.

Overall, my stay at Taj Vivanta Shillong was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The attention to detail, the warmth of the staff, the cleanliness, the ambience, and the mouthwatering food - all contributed to making this stay truly unforgettable. We stayed here for 1 night on 15th May,2025. We stayed at a Premium Family Room which cost us ₹15,340 for 1 night (incl of complementary breakfast) PROS: (1) Great ambience and cleanliness, at par with a 5 star hotel. (2) Good Location - Proximity to main Police Bazaar area yet aloof from the noise and congestion of the area. (3) Good Live Music and vibe of the breakfast eating area. (4) Ample amenities in the room viz electric kettle with tea & coffee sachets, unlimited free drinking water & toiletries in bathroom. CONS: (1) We stayed at a duplex room, meaning it had a floor above the main bedroom with another single bed on the floor above. The room was extremely spacious with a big seating area with comfortable sofas. In all, this room had 3 smart TVs, HOWEVER with only ONE DUSTBIN! which was present in the main living room. There was no other dustbin anywhere else, not one on the floor above. That too this was an open dustbin without lid which was kinda shocking! (2) The washroom is extremely small. We stayed at a Guest House for 3 days prior to staying here and that bathroom was atleast thrice the size of this bathroom. That too it's health faucet attached to the commode leaked water when sprayed! (3) There was no doormat outside the bathroom. They expected us to use one of the many towels they gave in the bathroom. But this does raise a health concern as to how properly they wash those towels used by guests to clean their feet before providing to new guests. (4) Their Wi-Fi did not work during the day. On calling reception(from the room phone, whose line is so erratic, one can hardly hear the receptionist) they said it will not run for another 2 hrs (precisely the time remaining for us to check out!). Well played. (5) Their overall service is a bit sluggish, not commensurate with a 5 star hotel. Now all the above may not be serious issues & may look over critical; but when you stay at a place, which boasts the TAJ Hotel Tag, and pay ₹15000+ for 1 night, everything is expected to be pitch perfect. When the hotel demands an extravagant price, its service & everything else also needs to be immaculate. After all money does not grow on trees, and this hotel does not provide value for money...

We stayed for four nights during the last week of September 2025. The service and cleanliness were excellent and exceptional. Location is very near to Police Bazar where you get everything.

All the staff were courteous and very helpful. Check-in, the final billing, and check-out were smooth, taking less than three minutes, I believe.

The ladies and gentlemen waiting the tables at the Mynt restaurant are amazing and always served with a smile. I would also like to specifically mention the lady at the live omelette/pancake counter during the breakfast buffet; she maintained her smile even during rush hours. The breakfast spread is awesome, and the taste of all items was amazing, with the exception of the Luchi (it wasn't really authentic Luchi). No complaints, though; the variety and taste of all other items were so superb that one item didn't make any difference.

We had lunch outside every day as we were out sight-seeing.

We were in luck that the Durga Pujo special dinner buffet was running during our stay. As a Bengali, this was a great treat. The items were cooked to perfection and tasted as if they had been prepared with great care. We loved that dinner buffet to the fullest.

Flavors from different states were served in Wink, and I tried the Groove from Arunachal, it was amazing.

While we were out sight-seeing, the room would be cleaned, and adequate water bottles would be present upon our return. Great housekeeping! Although we didn't have any specific requests, so we didn't really meet any of the housekeeping team members.

Finally, a shout-out to the amazing person at the reception helping people with their luggage. Even though we had only one piece of luggage and said we would manage, he still insisted on helping us.

The one and only slight drawback is that the bathroom is small, not even a standard size, just small.
