It was almost a year ago that @eliztepa recommended me to try out the Smoked Pork Chow from @flarerestaurant.shillong . This restaurant which is now more than a year old, is located inside the Hotel Pegasus Crown in Police Bazaar & sits in the same space where The Unicorn Restaurant stood earlier, a place being pretty popular for me & my friends back in 1999 when good restaurants were still far & few in the city. I have no idea if this is under the same management as the old one was but I recall enjoying my Indian meals at the previous establishment.
Anyway today I'm here trying out Chinese & sticking to @eliztepa' s recommendation. So here is my review of this restaurant.
Ambience - 4.6
Just like seen in many reels, the ambience is definitely very nice & sobre. Much nicer than the Unicorn Restaurant that I remembered. I applaud the content creators who are really good at their job since honestly the place looked so good in the reels. However, I was a little surprised that all the tables were empty at peak lunch hour.
The overall ambience gave a sense of calmness & drowned away the chaos from crowded Police Bazaar. It was a overcast gloomy day so I can imagine this place light up on a clear day during sunset.
Service - 4.0
The service was ok. The menu was served. The food arrived within 15 mins. The lady who brought the food in from the kitchen did so with a smile. The bill also was served without delay. However it was a warm & humid day & since there were no fans, I tried opening the window & there was no effort from the staff to offer any help. Also since the table next to me had better lighting I moved all my belongings as well as my order to that table & again there was no signs of any effort to help.

Read moreAs a foodie, I am quite aware of the taste of particular dishes from various other restaurants in Shillong and outside Meghalaya as well….Had to share a detailed review of what we ordered: Ordered Thai red curry and usually the thai red curry has a very mild and soothing flavour, but here the gravy was very similar to an any random Indian curry and it was spicy as well!! 2.Ordered fish fingers as well, and to our surprise, the french fries looked longer and fuller than the fish fingers themselves! We were confused for a moment that if we got the fish fingers complimentary with the french fries or the other way round! The size of the fish fingers were pathetic as compared to the prices they are charging for! Ordered mutton biryani n veg pulao where both the dishes were too full with too much fried onions, and the mutton pieces provided just didn’t do justice to the price we were paying for, we were charged 450 for it…The biryani rice was dry as well. Also ordered fried rice n paneer makhani, those were good as compared to the other...
Read moreWe had gone to Shillong to celebrate my daughter's birthday. She chose Flare as her room mate suggested. We went with no expectations but we were blown away by the taste of the food, quantity and service. It was the best food in Shillong for me. Some of us ordered Butter Chicken, Mutton Rogan Josh and OMG the naan was the softest I have eaten. My children said it was the best bitter chicken. We also ordered Spaghetti and Chicken Stroganoff. It was the best spaghetti🍝. It was so good we repeated the order. My daughter's friends ordered Chilly Pork as we don't eat pork and they said it was the tastiest and juiciest pork ever. Finally my eye was on Shillong style chow. I had to order. This was also the best chow ever. I was craving the next day and tried ordering again via Zomato but couldn't find them sadly. To summarise, Flare is a must must visit for delicious food if you are in Shillong. And they excel in all cuisines which is rare in most eating places.
Thank you Flare. Pls maintain the taste. We will come again on our next...
