A private collection of insects and butterflies. Ok to visit if you are nearby and are curious. Entry is 50 per head and every photo taken is chargeable Rs 10. The owner will check your photo album to see how many photos you have taken. This is not the way to publicise your museum and i disliked this practice. It should have been a single photography fee. The collection is not so unique or amazing which demands fee for every photo taken Overall an okay experience.

A great place for general public and entegologists alike. Although small, has a good collection. This privately owned museum is maintained by Wankhar descendants. Great effort by the family..kudos to them. Not to miss spot in Shillong.

We had a Wonderfull experience here . Not so popular destination in the locality. Our driver could not recognize the place. Local people have also misguided us. We had to take help of google map to reach here from police bazar, Shillong. It took a walk of 15 minutes from the shop of Hanumanbox Mahesh Kumar which is a famous shop of cloth material. But definitely we would have missed a great collection if we ignored it. A huge collection of beatles, moth and butterflies accross the hill is kept so beautifully in the basement of the house of Late Sudhir Kumar Sarkar. Now it is maintained by his yongest daughter. Entry fee for each adult is fifty rupees. Children are free. Camera charges applicable. Per shot they charge ten rupees for Indians. The collection of insects of hill area and also from the plane is rare and beautiful. Almost 1000 types of insects are kept here. You can clearly understand each from the displays hung there. Our children enjoyed it very much and we got spellbound visiting it. If you want a thorough visit please keep in hand one hour to have knowledge of insects. The land lady is also...

The Wankhar Entomology Museum is a small museum located in Shillong, the capital city of the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya. The museum is named after its founder, Late Mr. Wankhar, who was a renowned entomologist and had a passion for collecting insects.

The museum houses a collection of over 10,000 insect specimens, including rare and exotic species from India and other parts of the world. The collection includes butterflies, moths, beetles, spiders, and other insects, which are displayed in glass cases.

The museum aims to promote the study of entomology and raise awareness about the importance of insects in the ecosystem. Visitors can learn about the different types of insects, their anatomy, behavior, and habitats through the exhibits and displays.

The Wankhar Entomology Museum is a popular attraction for nature lovers, students, and researchers interested in entomology. The museum is open to the public on weekdays, and...

There are many specimens of butterflies and insects . This museum is in the basement of one house . We had to ring the bell and there was no response, luckily one girl from neighbour hood came and opened the door and called the lady owner of the house who was not very proactive, she checked our phones collected fees without any receipt of payment and said Rs 10 for one shot . She was not very pleasant ,we were asked to put of lights from shabby basement. Though the collection was good I wish the lady was more proactive and pleasant They could have the door open and keep one receptionist and made museum in more professional way . Just requires 20 min to go...
