Don't waste your money here. This is a government run hotel. It's so ancient, they should convert it into a museum. My experience: I stayed for 2 days/night in 1st week of Jan'18. The only reason I chose this was its closeness to US embassy.

Day 1: I check-in. Room looked OK. The old-water-electric-kettle had dirt in it, I asked for replacement, the room service person just cleans it & brings it back. I complain about room heater not working. I had to call/talk to 10 people & then I am told at 11 PM at night that it will work in 1 hour. NO IT DIDN'T. On the contrary, the temperature dropped 2 degrees. Me & my wife both got fever because of this.

Day 2: I request the front desk at 9:30 AM to change my room & make sure the new room has a working heater. At 1 PM, I am told the new room is ready and when I ask if heater works, I am told to check it myself. IT DIDN"T WORK. The electrician tells me the hotel THROTTLES the heat and hence I won't get warmer temperature. But then adds that the throttling is done during the day time, after 4-5 PM, the heater will work. So, I transfer to this room. At around 7 PM, the heater is still not working and then I have to talk to 4-5 people, and finally another electrician comes with a ladder and turns ON something in the bathroom, and finally the heater starts working. And forgot about the electric kettle, the filter was so dirty, the dirt was falling into the water, I ask for replacement and the room service person just removes the filter and brings it back.

Disgusting hotel. You have to try really hard to make things right. Don't waste your time & money here. Better hotels around embassy area.

The hotel has some 700 rooms, 200 rooms reserved for government employees & rest for private citizens like me. I find it hard to believe the ~200 odd rooms reserved for government have the problems that I faced. Staff shows differential treatment if you are not goverment employee or a foreigner.

Last day, when I check out (10 AM), manager is nowhere to be found, and the duty manager asks me when am I coming again.. seriously?? Once bitten, twice shy, never checkin...

The Hotel is nice & more attractive thing is its location where there is good amount of Greenery.

Pros: Great sprawling property. Big reception lobby. Rooms are large & spacious. Beds too are very comfortable. Their second lawn is available for setting up some functions etc. In Room One plate of complementary cookie & one bottle of soft drink was provided. For breakfast there are many options to fill your belly. You can avoid juice or ask them which is freshly prepared cause I saw some of them were being poured from tetra pack juices boxes which are available on all grocery stores. If you are coming for work related to other countries embassies, then its location is a plus point. If you have checkout in in morning & flight/train in evening they provide service to keep your luggage's.

Areas of Improvement: The Hotel need to provide amenities like dental kits etc. based on total no of peoples checking in rather than standard one. One your luggage is brought to you room the person bringing that in keeps smiling even when they are done with job, hinting that they need you to explore your wallet. Such behavior needs to be disciplined. Swimming pool is not part of your lientery. Cause as per their policy you need to be member of some club to enjoy swimming pool. Quite surprising for a hotel claiming to be 5 stars. Guests should be allowed to use swimming pool. Hotel needs maintenance in detail. The room which I was staying has a painting which had moist built up on the painting & looks like nobody was bothered to replace or maintain that. Reason moisture like that does not build up in s single days but months. The paintwork done on walls seems to be done not professionally as the cables of TV etc were found to be victim of unprofessional paintwork. Charging point needs to be next to bed rather in my room it was near windows.

Neutral: Auto rickshaws are not allowed (As per Autorickshaws guys) in the hotel premises & seems all Autorickshaw drivers know that.

My Take: If i have special work in that area then can choose Ashok else there are...

Breakfast was really good, and also one of the staff at the coffee shop was taking care of me, I felt very good there. I don’t know the name, but he was tall. He was very helpful and polite. Disliked · When I entered in my room there was dust everywhere. When I removed my shoes, could feel the dust on the floor. Lamps, corners, everything was full of dust. Washroom dustbin was rusted, there was something splashed on the washroom door. There was no face towel. Shower did not have pressure. Water was dying and coming out while taking shower. There were so many tiny hair in the corner of shower area. The paintings on the wall had little fungus. I hate dirt and fungus. I’m allergic to dust. My face was swollen in the morning because of that. The room was so dirty. I was not told while checking in about alcohol policy verbally and was treated so badly like a criminal, I had to go down and then Jatin( manager ) came and told me he can’t allow me to take those 5 alcohol bottles in my room but I can ask them to bring the alcohol bottles to the room, half an hour before my check out. Well, when all this happened I felt so insulted which I mentioned Infront of Jatin aslo. When before my check out I called up the front office, I was told to speak with lobby manager. I tried reaching her but she was busy it seems, I was told to wait for her call, I waited but nobody called. Then 3rd time I called and the lobby manager picked up and told me,” ma’am the alcohol has been sent to your room”. This whole process took an hour. I was not allowed to even see the pool as i was told that only members can go there. I really liked dinner. The F&B department prepared it very fast. Thank you so much, it was really very tasty. I respect of your alcohol policy, but dust in the room, cannot be in a 5star hotel. You can give the same room, in the same condition to your auditor, I’m 100% sure you will fail it.

Hotel Ashok is known for it's rich heritage and originality. I would suggest "the Oudh", an Indian cuisine restaurant there, were i was treated like a queen. Since i stayed there all by myself, i panicked when i found the endless lenght of desserted corridors with waiters who weren't trained to stop looking at women!! Seriously, that was horrible...they kept staring and staring. I loved my stay there...but the receptionists were rather rude. They wernt willing to even attend to me when my luggage went missing for few minutes or when i had problem with the house flies buzzing in my room. Well if it isn't for a business meet, i would suggest anyone who is travelling alone from another city to not choose Ashok. The rooms were good though, a small TV with local cable that makes you impossible to view a channel for more than 15 minutes. But great view of the pool and the city. Pin drop silence throughout. Lookout for breakfast buffets, as the same cakes, croissants and muffins were used for all the days i stayed there since there wernt much people on the first day!!!!

Being a solo traveler, my first trip to New Delhi. The rooms were the worst. The hotel seems to be expensive, but the rooms were bad. The bathroom seems to be in a decent condition. I paid 10,000/- for a standard room for a single night. But I believe it not worth for even 5,000/-. The breakfast and dinner buffet was great. The room service was fine. I ordered for 2 water bottles, served it immediately. The good things were Early morning wake up call and Print services in the first floor. The negatives were even if we take the car service, it's a KM, the taxi service charges 1200/- and we need to call them multiple times for a single pick up and drop. On the whole, the room was worst and food was great. For solo traveler, the hotel was really safe. It takes about 20 mins to reach the hotel from IG international airport.
