Whenever we hear the name of Taj, a Brand comes into all of us which makes us even proud being an indian to have such a brand. But fortunately or unfortunately the recent experience was very annoying, insulting and over complacent attitude from the staffs.
First the check in and check out experience: while checking in, i made it a point to the reception that i will be having a late check out and they noted that in their system and confirmed. Next day around normal check out time i was roaming around the lobby. Went for reconfirmation for late check out. It was again confirmed. I kept a small plastic bag in the room with some stuffs and my purse where all my ID cards, CCs etc were there. After some time, when i went back to the room, it was kept wide open. The bag vanished and i was literally shocked as my purse and important docs were there. I just rushed and luckily got to see the HK team . Now apparently while i was in the lobby, they thought none was there and cleared the room. They put my bag in lost n found!!!! So now u guess what would have been my mental state if you find your imp docs missing and that too from the room. This is a sheer case of complacency and over confidence. There were no connections and coordination between the front desk and HK. Its a shame!!
Second, while i booked Taj thru a third party, i got a voucher worth some money to spend in the hotel. I went upstairs to Shamina restaurant and checked whether the voucher is valid or not. The lady told me its a small amount and worth that amount you can not have lunch, u better should go to coffee shop for a cup of coffee. How insulting this was I still think off. I was ready to spend a few INRs for a god lunch but the service lady as per me just insulted me. Who has given her the audacity to talk like this whether i can afford or not? Are the Taj staffs now a days have started judging customers looking at them?? Then third I went down to the coffee shop. None came to take any order. I then walked up to the counter and ordered for a cappuccino. The counter girl was not at all interested in her job. She got the coffee beans in bare hand and put them for brewing in naked hand. Not even used a glove. And after almost 15 mns she most non reluctantly served the coffee. I asked for some tissues. That took 5 mns also.
So all these experiences show nothing but sheer complacency and some kind of over confidence.
I perceive Taj as a brand where I can pamper myself and not of this kind of experiences.
Also when all GM, front office mgr, fnb manager came and started apologising and offered me a ride back. But being an HR professional and serving retail and FnB industry for more than a decade, getting these sort of experiences are simply not done.
Would request the Taj management to connect more with its internal customers more so the external customers can be taken care of much...

The hotel is located in the heart of New Town and is easily accessible from the airport, shopping centre, restaurants and other parts of the city. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a warm and friendly staff who made us feel right at home like our own relatives & friends. The check-in process was smooth and efficient, and we were quickly shown to our room. The room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed with all the amenities one would expect from a luxury hotel. The bed and linens were very comfortable and the room & bathroom were modern and well-maintained with all the facilities & beautiful views. One of the standout features of the hotel is the dining options. There are several restaurants on-site, each with its own unique cuisine and ambiance. We had the pleasure of dining at the restaurants, which offered the extensive menu of authentic dishes that were delicious and both flavorful & beautifully presented. In terms of amenities, the hotel has everything one could need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. There is well-equipped gym, spa, swimming pool and other facilities in the hotel. The hotel is well maintained & very secured and all the staff were very well behaved, hospitable, friendly, helpful and welcoming. We would like to mention, Mr Avijit & Ms Neha from house keeping who made our stay very comfortable & enjoyable. Mr. Sohel (Manager), Mr Debanik, Mr Kashif and Ms Carol are amazing staff and their hospitality made our stay wonderful. Mr Bishwas & Mr Abhijeet were the best door greeters. These employees are the real asset of the hotel. Overall, we highly recommend the Taj City Centre New Town Hotel for anyone looking for a luxurious and enjoyable stay in Kolkata. The staff, amenities, and location make it an excellent choice for both business and leisure travelers. We’ll definitely come back to Taj City Centre New Town, Kolkata. N.B. Just for the improvement of the hotel management, these points were noted; “The front desk managers and receptionists need more professional trainings in terms of providing accurate information. They need to improve their listening when people call and sometimes Managers need to know how to provide better services to keep the goodwill of the company/hotel”
Thank you so so much…😊. Kind regards, Rony &...
Read moreOverall this hotel is an extraordinarily excellent hotel to stay. I am summarising the review into sections. I have stayed here for three nights and have explored most of the things.
Reachability and Parking: This hotel is adjacent to City Centre 2 and is in the same building. You have to use valet parking as the parking is not just adjacent to the entrance. It is over the road and easily visible from the main road but can be missed due to City Centre 2 entrance just beside.
Staff Behaviour: The reception staffs are very polite and helpful. The other housekeeping staffs are also very courteous. Even they allowed 2hr late checkouts also as a complementary benefit to us.
Rooms: The rooms were fantastic, and there was everything there, starting from the study table to the smart TV. The rooms have carpet there, and it is enjoyable. The windows are also huge and mainly with City Center 2 or city view only. The only minor issue I found was that the lighting was not there near the mirror and hence a little uncomfortable for a person to dress up. Otherwise, the idea of giving different modes of illumination instead of independent switches is an excellent idea. Even the bathroom had a little less lighting. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained, being a 5-star hotel.
Amenities: We used the swimming pool and the gym. It is 4.2ft to 5ft, I suppose. The pool is in a great place, and the sides are open. The location near the pool is very well-maintained and well-decorated. The gym is also nearby, and it has all the needs. The gym had a view of the pool. Ordering food from online services is allowed, but you must receive them outside the hotel. They even provided us with plates and cutlery when we ordered food.
Look, Feel and Cleanliness: The hotel looks nice, as it has a well-maintained lobby. The hotel is maintained clean all the time. You will feel good staying at the hotel. All the hallways have carpeted floors which gives a good feeling.
Breakfast: We had the booking with breakfast, and we enjoyed it a lot for all three days. There were enough menu items in the breakfast, but the menu was the same all three days we stayed, which was a little boring. The breakfast was served in Shamiana restaurant, and its timing was 7:30-10:30 hrs. If you stay at the hotel, you can have breakfast in the package. The service was outstanding compared to the other hotels...
