Cloud Nine Estate — Hotel in Pulau Bali

This hotel utterly ruined our honeymoon. Deceitful, dishonest and manipulative management - I wish I had taken the 1* reviews seriously, they were honest.||||This property is advertised as a 5* boutique hotel and is 1* at best. I've stayed over 6 months in Balinese hotels from 1-5 and I honestly say the service of this hotel was appalling - the worst I've experienced. Staff had no level of service or even conversation. We had advised the property it was our wedding and honeymoon and they did nothing to celebrate, I had to ask 5 times just to get breakfast for our wedding morning arranged. Our clothes went mouldy, shower pressure was bad, place was dirty - especially by the pool, cigarette burns on outdoor furniture. Construction was ongoing.||||Even though we had put on the booking notes that we were on honeymoon and asked if they could do something special, they did nothing to celebrate our special time. When we shared we didn't feel special, they promised they would do something for when we arrived back from our wedding. They didn't, even though I had messaged them to say we were on our way back. When I complained, the management team handled our complaint appallingly, blaming my husband for his 'miscommunication' (even though it was me who had communicated) and then blaming external circumstances, and my 'expectations' (which were really just wanting flowers decorating our bed as you'd typically get in a 5* boutique hotel!). She told me I should have booked a 'honeymoon service' if I wanted special treatment! We spent 8 hours of our honeymoon in discussion, and she kept messaging me when I asked her to stop. She offered a refund to apologise but backtracked and offered it only if we left the property - we were basically told to leave and had to research other places to stay (in high season!) and pack our entire villa on our honeymoon after our nice meal out. It ruined our honeymoon.||||They promised 3 nights refund and didn't provide it, lied saying booking.com didn't allow the refund (untrue) and used photos of my own bridal bouquet as photo evidence to booking.com to say they had made us feel...

Positive: The villa itself is beautiful, has an amazing view and is located directly in the jungle. Also the location is perfect; just outside of Ubud, far away from the noisy streets and therefore very quiet but still accessible by "Grab Taxi". It was always very clean and tidy after daily room service. In the evening they also close the mosquito nets above the bed and set up mosquito-repellents.

Negative: The biggest negative point is the staff being very intrusive. If you stay at the villa for the day, they drop by several times during the day. To prevent that you can close the main gate. But if you close the main gate, this changes to calling or texting several times. Ergo the relaxing atmosphere of this villa is disturbed by the staff on a regular basis. Also the staff is over-extraordinarily friendly; even if that sounds weird, but they ask the same exact default small talk questions about your day every time they see you. So with time we tried to avoid any possible contact. A further negative is the breakfast always being cold when we got it. They even request you to tell them the day before the exact time at which the breakfast should be served; still it was cold every time.

General information: As the villa is in the jungle, there are some insects around and also geckos. Three geckos even lived with us in the villa. They didn't really bother us much as they lived on the inside ceiling and they ate the insects that managed to sneak in. But sometimes they left poop on the table/floor, but which was always promptly cleaned by the Cloud Nine Team. The villa offers to hire a taxi, which we used twice. But in general it is 50% cheaper to just hire a taxi with the Grab app to get to the centre of Ubud.
