Read moreThis was our first time to eat at Balinese Home Cooking and enjoyed a truly wonderful dining experience. As the name of the restaurant implies this is a family run business and offers local dining at its finest! The menu was diverse with plenty of entrees featuring pork, seafood, chicken, beef and vegetarian. I had tuna in a savory sauce with all kinds of local spices accompanied by turmeric yellow rice and it was excellent! My husband enjoyed fresh cooked prawns with vegetables and his was also beautifully seasoned and excellent as well. We enjoyed these amazing drinks made with Arak, a local Balinese liquor similar to Mexican Mezcal. Mine was made with fresh mint leaves and my husbandâs was made with fresh passion fruit and they both were both delicious and one was enough! The owner and cook (Ketut) came out and visited with us and told us how his entire family help out with the business. As we sat there it began to rain very hard so he and his son drove us back to our nearby hotel which was very kind. Itâs not very often that you encounter a truly, local, authentic place that offers such amazing food, beverage and service in a beautiful and clean setting. We will definitely come back to this place on our next...
Read moreAbsolutely the best Balinese food in Ubud! The family compound is traditional, and open to tours of Balinese home lifestyle. The restaurant is small so bookings are a must, and it is worth the effort. The flavours are fantastic and although there can be a wait between courses this is only because everything is freshly made with care and love, perfectly balanced and cooked to high quality standards. Don't be scared of ordering chicken, clean white meat bursting with spices and flavour is what you can expect. The owner Ketut is lovely and explains that his son spent time cooking in Australia learning all about western standards of food safety and hygiene. Contrary to most restaurants, it is also a non-smoking dining experience. Sit in the beautiful garden (as always be aware that mosquitoes love Ubud as much as you will) and relax, enjoy meeting the family and other travellers as you experience an evening of delicious food in a traditional family compound. Not intended for a quick bite, so if you're in a hurry maybe choose a more suitable time when you can forget time and be present and enjoy your dining experience. Very well priced, 2 entrees, 2 mains, a juice, coke, and two large Bintang cost us...
