Where to begin? IBAH has become my favourite place to stay at in Bali. My first stay was in February 2023. I work overseas on an 8 weeks in, 1-2 weeks out contract. In February, I made a last-minute decision to come to Bali and saw that the one bedroom pool villa at IBAH was available. All of the reviews describing it as a secret garden/hidden sanctuary still close to the heart of Ubud caught my eye. I was dealing with an extended period of burnout and looking for the perfect place in Bali to rest and reset. The pictures of the pool and all of the beautiful stonework and greenery were the final seller. So with one week’s notice I booked the one bed pool villa 🌴🧘🏻♀️I had such an amazing time that I've stayed here twice again this year, and I know I’ll be back! 😊
Everything: the service, the rooms, the atmosphere, the location: is perfect and if you are looking for an oasis to rest, relax, and use as a springboard to explore the rest of Ubud, you won't be disappointed.
IBAH is family-run and even by Balinese standards, the staff are so warm and friendly and will make you feel at home. Service is 10/10 and you can reach the front desk anytime through WhatsApp, very easy communication.
The landscaping on the grounds is incredible and you can see nature really thriving. You don't have to worry too much about bugs as the geckos, water monitor lizards, and birds keep them at bay! Otherwise the sounds of the river running nearby and singing birds add to this beautiful gem. There are yoga studios like Intuitive Flow, Alchemy, and Ubud Yoga House nearby, but you might want to just stay and do your yoga / meditation practice outside your room, and soak in all the senses: the smell of incense, chirping of birds and running water, maybe the faint sound of a gamelan band practicing, etc… this is traditional Balinese charm at its best 🙏🏼
One of the best parts is proximity to Campuhan Ridge. Each of my stays has been about a week long. One of the best ways to start the day is a sunrise (or shortly after sunrise) walk to Campuhan Ridge before it gets too hot, perhaps through to Bangkiang Sidem village to admire the rice fields, and come back for breakfast at IBAH. Then the pool is waiting for you.
During my second visit / in July 2023, I was fortunate enough to be staying during at IBAH the same time as the royal cremation. IBAH took care to leave guests notices about the ceremony in their room, and during breakfast, Tjok Ibah himself was walking around the restaurant personally inviting guests to observe the funeral procession and cremation at the temple. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I was so grateful to have witnessed it!
IBAH has become a second home in Bali and I can't wait to visit more in the future. Thank you to all the IBAH staff for making each...
Read moreStayed 4 nights at end June 2022. Paid $336aud per night for an Ibah suite. We are a couple with a very active 2 year old boy and I was 6.5months pregnant. All of this is important to our review!
Stunning setting, incredible jungle and peaceful but next to town. Incredible balcony views. The grounds are incredible, such a huge area to maintain. Lovely friendly staff, yummy breakfasts.
The resort is sadly still struggling after covid, but reduced rates for rooms help. We felt what we paid per night was still a lot. Room needed some love generally, with several minor complaints which can be expected when they have only just reopened after many months of closure. Any more significant ones (e.g. toilet leaked, sink blocked up, and blind cords broke were all fixed very quickly upon request).
Wish they'd been clearer about the services yet to resume when we booked so we could've set our expectations. The shuttle in and out of town was not yet back on, which wouldn't have been a problem without a toddler and being pregnant. Afternoon tea was not on, restaurant was not back open other than breakfast. Had to choose brekky options and timing the night before which was a bit annoying- on holiday not wanting to plan, and 2 year olds often have different wake up ideas day to day!
Main thing that was hard was the unsuitability for toddlers. Sorry Warwick Ibah, but it's just not great for young kids. We are not super precious and rented a villa with a pool elsewhere we loved, but the hazards at Warwick Ibah were on a whole new level! Slippy pathways, big drop offs on balconies with low walls, ability to lock themselves in bathrooms, steep steps, steps at door thresholds, couches so high that falling off would result in injury, etc. It was exhausting not being able to look away for 30 seconds. If we were without our toddler I'm sure it would've felt very different though, I just want to share this for other parents of active toddlers.
Finally, rooms are all very bespoke. Don't expect the room to look exactly like the photos from the booking page, each has it's own unique character. The hotel staff kindly moved us when we expressed our disappointment in the room we were first given in comparison to the photos we expected.
In summary, either get a bargain room or check what services are yet to start; and don't take an active toddler. I really wish Warwick Ibah all the best in recovering from covid times- the wonderful staff and incredible...
Read moreGuided by the light of the great god, the high priest Rushi Markandiya came all the way to Gunung Lebah Temple in Campuang. The impressive Ibah is next to the temple, the birthplace of Ubud.
I stayed here for the first time in several years. The previous owner was a local royal family, but now it is run by Warwick. This time it was a family trip, and security was stricter than before, hospitality was more than sufficient, and the impression of the owner was very good.
This time I stayed in Room 107, Oleander. When reading hotel reviews in Bali, some people say they don't like lizards and geckos, but in Bali, especially in the mountains, there are of course voices. Sometimes you can hear the gecko's cry in the middle of the night. I don't know if it's because of that, but there are no mosquitoes flying around in the room, so it's comfortable. The gecko's voice is also a symbol of happiness. Sometimes droppings fall, but follow the locals and watch over them with love. The bed is a princess bed with a mosquito net.
・Breakfast can be enjoyed in the restaurant or in your room. ・You will rarely feel that there are not enough electrical outlets. I brought a 240-volt C-type outlet tap. I think that charging smartphones and cameras is compatible with 240V, so it is convenient to have a C-type outlet tap and a C-type compatible plug. Please be careful as Japanese-style 110V taps can cause fires. ・At breakfast time, someone will come to make the bed, clean the room, and clean the pool. In the evening, someone will come to make the bed and clean. ・It is not a hassle to walk to the Royal Palace and the market in the center of Ubud. ・The TV can receive NHK. ・The wi-fi was easy to connect and used smoothly. I brought an Amazon Fire TV stick with me, and it worked without any problems. I also listened to music on YouTube. ・There is a powerful Baigong insecticide spray and mosquito coils under the sink. The staff will light the mosquito coils for you on the terrace. ・You can make Balinese coffee in your room using a coffee press. ・From the terrace, you can see people walking along the Campuhan Ridge Walk in the distance. ・There are swings on the Campuhan Ridge Walk, and you can occasionally hear girls screaming in the distance (lol) ・There is a 24-hour convenience store at the entrance to the Iba.
This is the perfect place to stay while exploring Ubud. I recommend it to everyone. Have...
