We visited on Cantina on the recommendation of someone we met on Bali, who told us it was an unmissable Ubud experience. We made a reservation to be sure we could be seated, as it was quite a walk from our hotel south of the Monkey Forest (about 40 minutes in all) but on arrival found it quite quiet, likely because it was a Sunday. We were seated at a bar designed to make the most of the view, but given this was dinner, the view was of darkness. That was fine with us – we’re city dwellers so it’s rare to look out into such peaceful blackness. Between us we ordered a variety of starters: the burrata and tomato escalibada, a dip platter, grilled scallops and then for mains, the seafood linguine, jackfruit tacos and a side of lettuce hearts. Admittedly this ended up being a little too much – namely because we underestimated the size of the dip platter. We also ordered cocktails, specifically the Bagatelle Margarita and a ‘Self Love’. All of the food and our drinks were really good. I especially loved the scallops and would highly recommend. The total came to £1.45m (around £70 GBP) including an automated 6% service charge, tax and some soft drinks. Not cheap by Indonesian standards, but a price we were very happy to pay for a lovely meal and great service. Some points to note: to reach the restaurant from the main area of Ubud, you need to walk downhill on a roadside path that isn’t very well lit and is missing chunks of pavement. I’d advise using a torch. The restaurant itself is up a few flights of stairs, so be prepared for the climb! Oh and the bathrooms are down a level.

Cantina Rooftop Bar has a modern feel to it that manages to combine vibes, view and v(f)ood. Tucked away at the top of a building (just follow the modern music), Cantina impresses with its thought through eatery menu that caters towards carnivores, vegetarians and vegans alike. During our visit we sampled through some of the items which allowed us to get a glimpse of the culinary idea behind this place. (Try the stuffed squid, the scallops and the tacos, but you might want the tacos to be a little bit more on the spicy side.) I personally enjoyed the concept of an open kitchen because it allows you to get an insight in restaurant kitchens, although the long community table close to the working area doesn’t put the action in the kitchen into the spotlight. It makes you feel like you’re in a friend‘s kitchen. All this is accompanied by very attentive, friendly and helpful staff in terms of recommendations. One minor hiccup, not worthy of deducting any stars: - As mentioned above the tacos could’ve been a bit more spicy. The red cabbage added more crunch than flavor (maybe preserve cabbage in vinegar chili mix, add chili on its own or mix it with the pico/sauce) This didn’t make our experience at Cantina Rooftop Bar unpleasant, but I wanted to mention it. This restaurant is a must try for people who enjoy a great atmosphere, location and modern food.

We found Cantina while we were staying in Ubud & our first visit was just absolutely incredible that we had to return a second time for our last night in Ubud. The FOOD!!! It’s not often you can’t get a particular dish out of your head , but I honestly couldn’t stop thinking about the Oka. Beyond words ! We tried a number of dishes over our two visits and couldn’t fault any of them. Didn’t take many photos as we were quick to devour each one as they arrived. The staff are incredible , so attentive and so friendly. We were travelling with a baby and so kind to take her for a walk around and give her the attention she was craving also. And the view is beautiful ! Looking over the temple in the jungle surround is just perfect. Add this to your list . And do not miss it during your Ubud stay !!

Dafür muss man kein feines australisches Rind importieren.
